F@CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH just went to lock up the chickens & brought back Alice, dead! Not a mark on her, good coloring, etc. She was in a big hollowed out hole in the dust bath area like she croaked while dusting. *#@^%*%$#*!!!!!!!
She's my momma of Moose's babies! And she just turned 1. Frack!
My chickens were having a fit today and were all hiding when i went outside. One of the cochin chicks iis missing. Sommething was snatching chicks last year too. 2 of my call hens hatched chicks today and one of the blue fawns is gorgeous! Fat head and small beak. I either need to take them away or lock the hens up with them.
Awww CC...so sorry about Alice! Maybe she had a heart attack while dusting? IF she did, then she went happy!
NIce one on the call babies BBP--I cracked the two remaining eggs after my hen got off and there were two babies that needed about a week and a half yet...all the other eggs were bad...she kicked them out but then was knocked off the nest during the night by something?
Little T has vulture hocks! OMG is he cute!
The new girls look plenty happy in that new coop of yours MXM! Nice job! Annie looks like she has a smile on her face.
Weird how it can happen... I lost Lacey last month that way. No sign of illness, not a mark on her, good color... just dead.
and she was a good broody too.
BBP... I prefer to lock hens and chicks up for about a month for their safety. Then they go in a larger area where they can interact with the rest through a fence until they are big enough to go in the coop. Hope the rest stay safe!
TO.... guess what we had for supper. Roast chicken, asparagus with wild onions and mushrooms, and rolls.
Got a new electronic thermostat for the incubator and got it wired in. We are not getting the 8 degree swing anymore. The electric thermometer in the 'bator says 99 degrees. The temp on the thermostat goes from about 37.5 to 39 degrees celcius (99-102 degrees F). Do I need to get more dialed in? The humidity is at 50%. Now to find a nice corner to put this in and wait 21 days.
Thank you all. I'm sorry for going all drama queen on you, but I guess I was just so shocked. I was out there with them for a couple of hours earlier today and everyone seemed just fine. When I opened up the door this morning, she came tearing out with the rest of them. There was absolutely no sign that anything was even slightly off with any of them. I always make sure I look everyone over & listen to them for a long time every day, and today was no different. She even laid an egg while I was out there. It's just insane how something like that happens.
Cind, that's right. I do remember you telling us the same thing about Lacey not long ago. So sorry.
Got a little behind in the reading, opening a new window for comments 'cause I sure can't remember over 10+ pages.
DrH, I know Cartman will be in good hands. You may have to arm wrestle TO for him though.
Dan, heirloom maters at the bash? Good man! And those pics you posted,
Jim, it was Paula (BCC) that had the Thai roo incident. Haven't seen her on here in a long while. You do crepes too?
Tiki was computer-less for a while but she is back. Downsizing her flock to a more manageable level.
mxm, just the way you talk (or type, as it were), you crack me up.
TO, just a friendly reminder that I'd love a mulberry too.
Ken, I'd bring down the humidity on that bator. Lost a lot of chicks last month because I kept it too high. Got it settled at 30-35% now.
Alrighty, guess what I brought home today??? A guinea pair! An Amish family down the road is moving away and lucky me I noticed last week they had some guins running around. I thought $12 for the pair was a great price. Nice guy, too bad to see them leave. The guins are in my recently-vacated tractor (found a chicken butcherer too, yay!! 13 irritating roos in the freezer.) Found out tonight why people keep them as alarms. Whoa.
I have to go back and read some but i want to post this first...
Libby is having some sort of eye thing going on. I took pictures of her bad eye and her good eye for comaprison. I need advice as to what to do. What do I put on it?
Her bad eye... note there is swelling at the back point, just behind the eye...
Here is her good eye...
now her bad eye again...
HELP! Any advice wuld be greatly appreciated!!!
Now Im off to catch up on my reading...
good evening.. Ken, what kind of bator do you have ? I would try to level out the temp to 99F.
If you have a LG or a Hova, try taping the seam with duck tape..
TerriO, my mulberry did not grow.. I just remembered you asked a bit ago..
Amy, You're right ,, it WAS Paula,, I wonder what she is up to ?
So many people that do not check in here anymore..
I do crepes once in awhile.. I like to smear them with cream cheese and then put some kind of fruit in them, fold them up and chow down.. My favorite is cherry.. I used canned fruit with the sort of jelly in with the fruit.. I guess it is really pie filling..
once at the pancake house in wausau, they discontinued the cherry filled ones.. So I brought my own can of cherries and they made me cherry ones..
Now I am hungry for blintzes.. thanks for bringing it up..
good buy on the guineas.. I hope they stay home for you..
who did you find to do your chicken butchering? what do they charge ?
