Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just checking in...went and got the chicks...they are having fun in the brooder. They are quite content...making little contented peepy noises.

Soooo....I have a question for y'all.....I'm looking for a "T" post for laundry. Long Long story on why I have just one but I'm trying to find a good metal laundry "T" post. I found one looking on the net but the reviews are awful. I then went to the local hardware store and they had the one from the internet and could order another type. Both are made in China and very cheaply made. So, does any one know where I can get a decent "old fashioned" type quality made laundry post?

H&R-Sorry I missed your post!

I would have stopped in on my way back from Rick's...

MJ-Good luck on the goat adventure! DH and I did meat goats. We accidentally bought one at a FFA auction years ago. He was going to me our meat goat but he was way to awesome and cool for that. Chopper was his name, he was a Boer.DH thought to turn him into a draft goat but Chop Chop was having non of that... He turned into a pet but was prone to bloat and eventually died because of it.
Then a few years later we ended up with two more. I wanted to turn one into a draft goat (that was Gunter) and Oreo came along with Gunter for the ride. Gunter was a Boer and Oreo was a Boer/Nubian cross. I was never in all my years so happy to get rid of those two goats. Gunter and especially Oreo were horrible goats and when a Mexican family asked me if I'd sell them for tamale meat I said sold. I would have paid someone just to get rid of them. I hope they made good tamales.
Your girls will be ok with raising meat goats...It's part of being self reliant and learning to take care of and respect the animals you raise for meat and understanding where your food comes from and how to correctly care for your animal as your raising it to provide for your family.

Well, I'd best get going. I want to check on the rabbits since it;s getting hot..

Tiki ... where are you again? I keep forgetting... what are you getting rid of... not that I need anymore as stated above. but always nice to window shop!!

Morning all,
I was hoping to get some answers about the bedding I got at Fleet farm and treating my gimpy rooster and 7 week old babies, I'm taking back the 3 bags I haven't yet used and hope I get reimbursed for all of it, I'm also getting the Dejno's bedding company info and gonna do some chewing, this is ridiculous, I know for sure its the bedding because babies have the mites all over there cage as well, and they have no contact with the chickens or the wild birds either they can't get anywhere near them..............so anyway if anyone has any input I sure would appreciate it..............Kim
sorry that no-one has any answers for you, hopefully someone might have some ideas. Never had to dust babies for mites, not sure if the sevin dust would be okay to use or not. You look at the back of a bottle of flea and tick spray and see what age they recommend using it on, how old are the babies? HTH

So you GF wants goats to eat? I thought the ducks were going to be pets? But the goats aren't ? Or they will be pets until they are eaten ?

Hope your little girl is ok when she has to say good bye to her pet goat and then has to eat them.
Just hard for me to comprehend. Just sayin. Were you going to eat the ducks too? If not are you going to the bash? I have Runner duck eggs. Also Muscovy eggs.

Ducks were going to be pets, only after BF4M convinced me how small and cute the dots were...I cant get too many pets around, or the self reliant or even the close to break even point will never be achievable and it will make for waaaaay too much work for me!

No bash for me this year, just too many things going on. I hope to get a lot of my house work done this year and will try and attend next year.

My little V (V is short for Vera) has been pretty good with death and dying so far, and growing up with a father like me she will have to be!

My GF is so very happy with the goats so far, but it is only her first morning having to get up and feed them, I laughed when she said she would get up when I go to work and feed them everyday. I hope me laughing actually ****** her off and now the chance to prove me wrong for laughing has kicked in! LOL im evil!

Be prepared to fall in love with the goaties! They're like dogs with hooves. I started with two...now I'm up to four! I know my bottle girls would happily live in the house, but that is a bit too far for me, hah!

I am hoping, and yeah I know wishful thinking, that we have 2 or 3 every year to raise and butcher in the fall. I am sure it will turn into more than that as the years progress and we get the barn into shape to take on more and bigger animals! Right now it has no electricity or running water. Trencher is going to get rented soon, but not before I get a roof replaced on my house and get it painted, and...a huge list of other stuff!

Anyway, pet expenses don't count when it comes to breaking even, they are pets, part of the family. My rescued boar goat was named Joe lol when I got him with my free "Pet goats" the guy wanted $20 for Joe or he was going to eat him. He followed Scout into the trailer and the rest is history. His name is now Luck Joe, or sometimes I call him Lucky Strike !! lol He is a good goat. All of mine are, even the naughty ones that are damaging my crab apple trees.
I know I dance to the beat of a different drummer up here on my little Hobby Pet farm !!! I've had way to much sadness and death happen in my life. I want to see happy lives here. It gives me great pleasure just sitting outside and watching the ducks and geese in their puddle or ponds, the chickens interating with each other and free ranging. Life is good. I've been given several breaks in life so I like to share that sort of thing. The peace and serenity they all provide..... Priceless !

Got the container planters filled, made some Lav soap that looks eggplant colored...... and now just waiting for the vet to call. Fattie had lost another 1/2 pound over the past week and his liver values are not changing like they should..... so it is not looking good.

FT Sounds like a great place to live for both you and the animals you have! We all have different view points on animals, except the one we both share in common and that is all animals should and shall be treated with respect.

I think TO has given me my favorite idea of watching the chickens and goats with an ice cold beer at the end of the day, although I will not be posting pics of it! lol
