Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all!
Not much to report here..again! I guess that might be a good thing! The critters are good.

Going to go over to Abendroth's to pick up chicks this morning. I got a nice mix of simple but lovely breeds and 4 hatching eggs for Wendy's broody hen. Wendy is one of the techs at my vet clinic. She also wanted some chicks to add to her coop since her hens are getting older. I'll take them over to the clinic later this afternoon and let her pick out the ones she wants.

Once I get homes, I have to finish planting the garden and clean out the coop. My other chore this week is to clean and rearrange the junk in the garage..

Well, I'd best get going, need to take a shower and such before I get on the road....

Later!

Ugh.. TO is driving me nuts. I want to share her good news.. but I want her to do it!! LOL

Anyway.. I have two broodies.. and them frustrating 24 hour fake broodies...

Does anyone know if chickens exposed to lead paint.. if their eggs can EVER be eaten? I have done research online but most of what I have found is that they get it into their bones, and you can't eat their egg yolks but the egg whites are ok.

But nothing about cleaning out their system.. to "flush it out".

FT -- good luck on your hatch

BF4M - Sorry about the crappy hatch , good luck next time.

raimnel - congrats on the hatch

twizzlebee- cute silkie

Angie- cute chicks

DAS - Love the babies

I'm sorry I'm sure there was more but I kept getting distracted and loosing my spot.

Well it's finally Monday. Boy the weekend went by slow and boring. I planted some seeds yeastarday and put down some plastic. We did a little taget shooting with the kids and now DD is back into wanting to hunt again. She went thru a phase were she didn't want to hunt because her classmates made fun of her. But now that we moved here and half the kids hunt she want to do it again. And of course hasn't practiced shooting in a while so she had to show of her skills lol. For not shooting in a couple years she is actually pretty good. We also let DS shoot his cricket since he was on his best behavior. I need to turn in the app for DD's to hopefully get picked to do the deer youth hunt at Buckhorn. We also need to buy another 20gauge for her since rifles cant be used. DH wont let me make her take the 12 gauge lol.

Dr.H -- Do you or anyone else know of anywhere besides TSC to get bulk flock feed? Paying $16 a 50 lb bag is getting old as well as the drive.

Good Morning All! Sorry no time to catch up reading. Soooo Not one stinkin bite on the water yesterday but really nice none the less. Motor runs and new rod is quite the improvement over the old one. Now all we need is the fish to cooperate. Had 3 roo's out last night at dark managed to get 2 of them in the coop. The one that I couldn't get in is AWOL. Seperated 4 roo's into the run this morning. Didn't put Freckles in there or the black roo's. The black ones are pretty mellow and Freckles is so dang cool lookin. We'll see if he comes around. Blackie is on top of the run lookin at the 4 roo's like SEE what you get for being snots!

WCC, I wonder if calcium works in chickens like it does with people...... if kids are fed a diet RICH in calcium, the lead bonds to the calcium in the digestive tract and is removed from the body. So since chickens are constantly getting extra calcium I would think that you would be ok. The amount of lead in a little bit of paint should not do much (as long as they are not eating it ALL the time, my goose died from lead poisoning).

Just my stab at it, I am probably was off base but it is a thought.

Making soap this morning and then off to the Vet with Squirrely!! His bud Runt is snuggled up with him right now.

I believe we should have Calls hatching tomorrow..... I'll have to check (with my luck they will not hatch until Friday).

Better get moving! Later all!

Good morning folks,

yet another great day in the north county,

Aprl you need to find a feed mill, not sure close to you but ask a farmer! did a quick google all seem to be "a drive" but mill prices should be around $20 + or -/100 depending on what you need CFS in Cashton are good folks that I have done business with, they have trucks running in your area ck with them might have to make arraignments where to meet or pickup,,,,

Jim, a suggestion, when you do you soil mix you might consider tossing in some gypsum, adds needed Ca and S,,,cheap at Maynards ( or anyone else doing gardens, this is a much overlooked additive that doesn't alter pH for the most part all WI soils need calcium and sulfur to preform to maximum levels)

going to my friends to do a mater swap,,,,,bbl

Morning, nice day again today!

Guess I ended up getting to much sun over the weekend at DS(10)'s soccer games- feel crummy this am.... it will be a long day today.

MLH-make sure to wave as you head over to pick up the chicks! Feel free to stop in if you have time!

Just about have the desk top computer all back up and running- DH has to load just a couple more programs...and I just found the one that was missing!

Enjoy the day!

We use Cashton Farm Supply too! We get 50# bags of certified organic soy free feed for about $15.

I'm pretty sure you can get non-organic from CFS much cheaper if you're not doing the organic thing

I don't get my feed there, but I do buy my organic potting mix and in the past composted/pelleted chicken manure, like I said good folks to deal with and they sell LOTS of chicken feed in that area

Anyone with experience using Ameruacana's* for a broody? My wheaton is in the zone the last 2 days, overnight in a box,,,I could give her a try and see how she mother's, I know esp the 1st time it's a crapshoot

Morning all,
I was hoping to get some answers about the bedding I got at Fleet farm and treating my gimpy rooster and 7 week old babies, I'm taking back the 3 bags I haven't yet used and hope I get reimbursed for all of it, I'm also getting the Dejno's bedding company info and gonna do some chewing, this is ridiculous, I know for sure its the bedding because babies have the mites all over there cage as well, and they have no contact with the chickens or the wild birds either they can't get anywhere near them..............so anyway if anyone has any input I sure would appreciate it..............Kim
