Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Yes they are very happy out there. If only they'd stay. Right after that picture when I was trying to round them up by myself they ditched into the woods. I had no idea they would all go so freely into the woods. They darted in there and followed the creek. By the time I got to the road and went around the corner they were already in the neighbors hayfield and the 3 donkeys were headed toward the highway !!! Not that busy of one but all it takes is one car or truck or log truck !!!
When I get my Atv fixed (need to put that number on my list of calls too) I'm going to tell dh we're going to let them all out their for an hour or so but we'll need two Atv's to round all 11 of them up. I just fear gopher holes or ???? when they are galloping around the field !!! It's a beautiful sight and sound (you can hear and feel the drafts running, it's breathtaking).

I would have to say............. You know you've lost your mind to chickens when............" Gave the girls a lecture on how I have to sell the eggs so I have money to buy them food!

They LOOKED like they were listening

Oh and one more question for you all. I took an Atv ride (well me and Butt dog did) and found this unusual looking plant along side of the road. Any idea what it is? And two more pictures of the wolf river on my atv ride today.

soooo
Sooooooooo pretty! That looks like this is well above Post lake?

That is very pretty FT! No idea on the plant. It looks like a rhubarb cross. LOL But I got rhubarb on the mind.

Anyone else having problems posting. I have been having a pickle of a time trying to get posts on here. Hope this works.

eta: Well that worked. My blue cochin roo fell off his perch, I think he was pushed, and was trapped upside down between the perch and the wall. I found him but he had been there a while. He can hardly walk. I checked him last night and when I cradle him on his back and move his legs, his left leg can turn outwards a long way where as his right leg is secure and doesn't turn. I don't think it is his hip, I think it is his knee/hock. Poor guy what can I do? Could it be an ACL?

Good morning! Quite chilly today--I had to close my window cause my arm was getting cold! The chicks in the TV are under the light again--yup it's chilly! So yesterday after work I go to the grocery store, couplns in hand. They say the sale starts May 29th. I get to the store and dont see the right stuff on the endcaps so I ask the manager what's up? Turns out that the Piggly Wiggly in Watertown runs their sale a day sooner than Jefferson! so they were busy pulling the sale tags off of that ad and preparing for the ad from which I was ready to shop! SHEESH! It was very difficult to do because I kept thinking of all the things that are on sale NEXT time! So I guess I get to shop again this week because I sure wasnt going to get stuff I knew would be 25 to 50% cheaper today!

Evening everyone. Well I broke down and brought Shifu back inside. Yeah I know I should just make he stay outside but its so pathetic. She is picked on by the roosters and all day today she laid in my flower bed ontop of my work gloves I was wearing this morning while weeding. I think I'll keep her inside until the day old chicks get here next week. Plus it will give her feathers time to grow more. She's 5 weeks old tomorrow and still not fully feathered. Her feathers are the slowest growing out of all the ducks we've had so far.
Here is a pic of Shifu safe and sound in her brooder just now.

Ah Apyl....I hate to say it, but I think you've got yourself a "house duck"! Cant you get one about the same age for her to chum with outside? (I have plenty...ever get down this way?)

Frenchie...I read your sipping comment to my DD26 and she said "Classy!" LOL! Didnt really understand the tick thing...they came to your house, then you took an ATV ride and then you went for shrimp and ended up at their place? My, My...what goes on in the deep woods of WI? LOL! Nice pics of your horses BTW--sure wish mine could spread out like that....of course if they went on the neighbor's land they could--but then I'd prolly be in jail for not being able to pay the fines!
Yeah that pic looks like Cow Parsnip to me too...native people used to eat it in it's young state though and use it for other things too so I am not sure that it is poisonous. I know it can wreck the milk of some cows if eaten by them. We were cautioned not to rub against it when we were watering an orchard in Western WI because of the blisters it can cause. (Like really bad Poison Ivy) Frenchie, I guess you'd better just leave it alone! The river looks really low! Is it or is that just a smaller part of it? Too bad the bridge spoils the view!

Dan--I remember going to the dump to look for bears! THat was always a fun trip! My Dad said that when he was a kid they would go with their BB guns and shoot rats there too! I had forgotten all about that...one time when we were out picking berries my Dad said "just watch out for the bears" and my little brothers high tailed it to the car so fast! LOL--we didnt see any though. So you are saying that it used to NOT be legal to feed them in your yard and now it is? Seems like a silly thing to do with such a powerful animal! Personally, I would rather they be afraid of me and not looking for a hand out!

Ken, with a reply like that I sure hope you arent going to believe them? After all, they are in the business of selling incubators...why would they make it easy to convert one? Good luck--you can do it! When I did a hatch like that I added some water before hatch date...dont know if it helped or not but the hatch was OK.

Jim you sound like a little kid playing in the mud! I do that in the spring with the winter run-off. It is one of my favorite things to do! LOL!

And with that, I guess I should get the peas planted...chilly outside today for sure. THey have been soaking 2 days so I need to get them in the ground. Then I dont know what I will do...I am sure something will present itself. Hopefully the horse will not have the swelling along his belly today...DD20 noticed it yesterday and we gave him some antihistamine. Really dont need another vet bill! THis is her horse that got caught up in the buried wire last week! If its not one thing its another for sure!
Have a great day! TErri O

Just wanted to share this little gorgeous chick... Well it will be when it gets bigger..

I finally had a Serama hatch out, I think I have three to go.
Some one will be happy!

Cute! I used to have seramas. You should take pictures of the babies with chapstick or lipstick for sizewise and adults with soda cans!!!!!! That makes an impression!

In Backyard Poultry Mag someone posted a picture of their guinea nest! They found 274 eggs !!!!!!

Anyone going to Gaillesville on Saturday for the show? That is someplace that is close enough for me to drive!!!! :) I will be there for sure.

Ohhhh! Yeah I heard that about wild parsnip and sun combo can be real painful. I wonder if that is the same thing!!!

LOL I didn't get the gist of the story either. Soooo you ended up at his house checking him for tics? LOL

When I was young our family went to the dump to look for bears. So silly. When there actually was one there everybody runs and screams! Gheesh!!! Except me I was too little. My dad stayed behind for me. Lucky he did probably saved the whole family/.

Terri,

it seems there is no record of when baiting actually became "legal" in WI,,,convienant when it's ethics and biological effects are being questioned now,,,lol

here's a good read with some interesting stats,,,now this only refers to deer baiting and doesn't include back yard feeders of which there are many in these areas:

http://www.wideerhunters.org/articles/baitingeffects.pdf

check out the amount of corn being fed and these #'s came from 2001,,,,this practice has been on the increase the last 10 years

now take those numbers and factor in that bears really have a hard time decerning "deer corn" from "bear corn",,,,let alone the confusion that exists during the time slot where bear baiting is legal,,,,hmmm

it's certainly not the animals fault that these conditions exist,,,,when the DNR took the steps allowing the skill level of hunters to decline and the success rate of these same hunters increased they certainly removed a lot of the "sport" from the sport

Quote: Yep I was on the old railroad right of way along Hwy 8. Just East of Mays Bar. Actually I was there illegally, it's only for snowmobiles I guess. Does playing dumb make it legal ???? LOL If you look at the top picture on the river there is a goose sitting on the shoreline on the left side. There were other ducks as well. Right next to a farm. Couldn't make out what kind they were though.
All of the pictures are with my phone so not the best.
MLH Yep that is Spice my POA she is an escape artist along with the black and white shetland and the belgian mare !!! Arrrrghhh !!
