Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good one MTF for the addition of TO showering! Good Morning Everyone! Are ya ready for a heat wave? Too early in the year for that! Today is going to be a good day to add a louvered attic fan to the coop. Bought it for the house originally but added a ridge vent when it was reroofed and that solved the problem. So now it's going in the coop. The north and west walls don't have any windows so there's no cross ventilation. Had to run a box fan in there last year. I'll put it in the west wall on the north end as high as I can get it should do the trick. Also gonna drill some holes in the brooder box and use a box fan if necessary but it stays cool in there if kept closed up. Have the house wide open to get the inside cooled down and will close it up and fire up the dehumidifier when it starts to warm up. Thought the other day that the rhubarb was being attacked by bugs of some sort. While putting in the mater garden I caught the culpret. Chickens! Geez am I going to have to fence that in too? A guy is coming to take the for sale car for a test drive today. Hope he takes it. So today is coop ventilation, garden gate, sell the car, and whatever else strikes my fancy. Have a great day!!!!!!

Mucked out 4 stalls and have the blisters to prove it! Payback was a horseback ride!

Amyable, no babies yet, they should be coming on Monday. I sure hope they do show on Monday since my baby in the bator has pipped internally. It is so cute to see that little shadow bill moving around in there!

Another day of running like a nut. Have fun everyone!

Good Saturday Fun Early Evening to All.... Can you believe that my grandson who is only 6 walked around here today and provided me with 2 monster morals all by himself....that makes me proud in a special way. it's the little things that seem to matter to me?

Ok, I thought today of a earlier post about seeding broccoli....yep, works like a charm..thin for great results. otherwise small heads taste just fine too.

Doc, glad you're glad, being glad...hopes that makes sence? Nothing like the mission in sight and mind being acomplished to perfection in ones eye. The nice thing is, they just seem to never end.

I really wish everyone could have been here for a fresh fish fry....my gosh they are good.

I need to take some more pics of the chicks. I have some of the buckeyes, that aren't current and some of the new coop. it was late yesterday, but jennie loade a couple for me to share.

Here is the new 10X16 coop....

Yup--those are my new parrots! Finally found the cam so I could show you all! I had the female outside today and boy was she happy to get back in here! The tow of them have been chatting and talking for the last hour! They are such funny birds!

I am trading some geese for some turkey poults this weekend...anyone have any experience with turkeys? I had a few a long time back but I think they all got blackhead...maybe I have to have them up in the air?

Oh Oh--DH just said he is dishing up ice cream---gotta go! Terri O

GOOOOD MORNING PEOPLE!!!!!!! Boy Bigz I though my chickens were spoiled. That's some coop! Cute babies too! Makes perfect sense to me being glad. I too had fun with children. The guy took the car for a test drive and brought his 2 kids out. They had never been around chickens before so they got to hold chicks and gave the others treats. They were laughing and giggling. BL4 of course it's exciting. Hope the hatching goes well! TO did you say those were Norwegian Blues? They do appear to be pining for the fijords. Everything on the list went very well. I measured the opening in the garden fence and it turned out that one of the old house screens fit perfectly, talk about lucky. The fan instalation went without a hitch and have the thermostat set at 85* will see what that feels like in there. Washed the pollen, dust, and bird poo off the for sale car. Plus I got the yard mowed again and pulled the nettles behind the coop. Sat at the picnic table and looked around, the place really looks nice. I marveled at how far it has come since I bought 10 years ago. Still a lot to do but WOW what a transformation. Don't know what I'll accomplish today. Gotta go let the kids out, water things and enjoy the morning.

Green chickens, sounds like a project

over that coop! Thanks for the broccoli tip - just seeded them earlier this week, so all good. I'm expecting great things now, lol. Good luck with that ducky, BL4!

We had a great time at the wedding last night. Dancing up a storm with 3-yr-old DS, and the fried chix at dinner was fabulous. Felt like a terrible chicken mama when we got home though. I had opened the coop windows and turned off the brooder light because it was supposed to get so hot. The very first day the chicks were home I had it all closed up and it got a touch too hot, the week-olds were panting. Sure didnt want to cook 'em, so instead they got chilled

They were all huddled up in their box, and quiet. Terrible, awful, chicken parent! Closed up the coop and lowered the lamp, within 5 minutes they were scurrying about again. One Polish was a bit lethargic, warmed it up a while in my jacket and made sure it was eating and drinking. Going out shortly to check them again. I will be very glad when the feathers are in and I don't have to vainly attempt to regulate that coop temp.

And was awake this morn at 4, thinking sadly of my fave cat who has been AWOL since Tues. LIttle jerk lies in wait by the door and eludes capture occasionally. I'm laying awake when I should be unconscious, wondering how he met his demise, and I hear a faint familiar meow. Jerry is HOME!!!!!!!!

Now it is 6, not a bit tired for 4 hours of sleep, but I have my cat and uninterrupted BYC time, all is well in the world. Happy Sunday All!

well here's my second attempt to post this morning-had a nice long one in process and the computer decided to click out and lost the post.

Cool pictures everyone and congrates to those hatching out eggs!

Terry O, call me if you have questions about the turkeys-we currently have some growing. If you do call change the last 4 of my number to 5219(that my DH's cell phone as mine is having problems holding a charge)

well off to get more work done today!

Hey everyone! Haven't been around for awhile. Still no hens allowed here, but I am really excited to get fibre bunnies this week! Got my buck yesterday--he's an English Angora--and my daughter named him Peter Pan. I'm getting the rest of the fence up today so he can stay outside overnight and not aggravate my son's allergies but be safe from the neighborhood dogs. I can't wait to get the big hutch built--it looks awesome in my brain. We'll see how it looks when it comes to fruition.

I did have a quick question for everyone--does anyone have one really young bantam Silkie female chick that they would be willing to sell? Or have any bantam Silkies planning to hatch soon? The group we have going in Milwaukee--Cream City Hens--is getting some chicks together for a 'henbassador' program and want a bantam and a Silkie to be in the group, but the people we're ordering from don't have them available until August, and we wanted to get them in early June. If we order without the Silkie we can get them around the 7th, which is a lot better for us. I'm willing to drive a bit--2-2.5 hours each way if anyone can help me out!

It's great to read about all of the progress happening in yards, can't wait to get mine up to snuff!
