I've been going steady trying to keep up with all the things at hand...God knows I have enough to do for two lifetimes. Camp needs help in the morning removing a tree.... the scouts want to plant their own oak to watch grow, so we will give a special place for it.

Hello All, Welcome Christine!

Been a couple of days since I've logged on, lots of catching up to do. Well, Dr. H I thought I've caught just about everything but never a warmouth. Doesn't sound like I've missed much, according to your description. Glad to hear that you're doing well and haven't fallen into depression over your retirement!!!! Ha! Good for you, brother!

Well, the job search goes on, I'm still in the running on one job, so we should know by the end of the week. I'm getting plenty of hours at my part-time job, however, so I haven't yet had to kill any of my chicks for food...yet.

That being said, I'm sad to say that Elvis has left the building. He was a beautiful australorp, getting really a beautiful dark green sheen to him, but I had to cull him this morning and I just hate it. If I was culling for food, it would be different, but just to manage the flock makes it tough. Having separated the roosters from the hens has really made a difference, everyone now seems happy and the vibe is good. So I culled Elvis this morning, and now it's just Jerry Lee...oh, Jerry Lee. He's such a big goofball I can't bear to get rid of him, he's crowing all the time now and is just a big, clumsy boy but all rooster. Everytime I pick up another bird in there he starts banging around in his cage, squawking away. But when I get him out, he's going after all the girls right away, and he is on a mission to dominate, so I just don't know what to do with him yet. Hmmm.

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather! I've been working on the run from the hen house to the outside pen, and I should have birds playing outside in the next couple of days, which will allow me to give the coop a good cleaning.

Hey, June 12th is coming up sooner than later, eh????

Ditto on trying to remember what you get on here to say after reading everything. Glad it's not just me. So first it's all about me. SUPRISE! Back getting 8 eggs a day now, would like it to be 9. It seems that I've over sold my ability to produce, have quite the waiting list. Need more chickens! Been having a ball with them though. The lil ones are now going through a feeder full a day and have been running from one end of the brooder to the other flapping their featherless wings. Need to spend more time imprinting with them. Yesterday got the mater garden refenced. Took the chicken wire off for winter it's right next to the driveway and didn't want to blow snow through it. Refenced it with heavier welded wire now that I'll be plowing it. And got the post in on the garden expansion plus the wire pulled and re- stretched around the new posts. Got the maters and peppers in too. Today's list includes finishing the fencing, install the garden pump, and fiinsh planting the garden. Now on to you fine people. BBCB Think that was the first warmouth I've ever caught. The mouth was very disportionate to the body. it was a small one and looked my like a gill. I looked them up and the pics I saw looked more rock bass shaped but this one looked just like a gill. Pretty weird! And yes retirement has taken it's toll on me. I get tired from all the skipping to and fro. Still wishing that phone would ring for you! It'll happen!!! Sorry to hear about having to cull Elvis, hard thing to do. Maybe Jerry Lee will settle down now. When I pickup one of the lil ones and they squawk Peaches gets upset too. Is he getting too rough with the girls? Maybe a few days of freedom and realizing he's the top dog will settle him down.

Yes the 12th will soon be upon us which reminds me to burn somethings for you. As I've known for a long time your a good human being, it's nice to know you! Can't wait to meet up. With everyone! fm hope your eggs work out this time! BL4 where is that Co-op? Suppose it's in the book. H&R only 3 years worth? Should be a piece of cake.

Hi everybody!!! Well I thing Christine has had the Royal Welcome so I will just say hi..
frow.gif

Yes the 12th is coming up rather quickly and we still need to do some planning...I need someone to co-ordinate some things for the little ones to do. Can anyone volunteer to do that? I can bring some books and crayons but that probably wont hold them for long? Maybe some racing games or a treasure hunt? THanks in advance--we want it to be fin for them too so they become future chicken aficionados!
I would surely like to see a pic of that hybrid fish guys! I will have to ask my Dad if he has ever caught one. Are they a rather new occurrence?
My parrots are quiet today...I really want to build a litte deck from my "door to nowhere" so I can wheel their cage outside and they can enjoy the fresh air. does anyone have any know-how? Do I have to put footings in and all that or can I just set 4x4s on concrete blocks? I dont think dh would even know that I built it...for a while at least!

OK--I have to go to work...only one client today--I gave my lady to my daughter to do...I need a break from her! (the lady not my daughter:) )
So happy it is another sunny day...got a ton done yesterday with my excellent friend Jen that cam to help me get my tail in gear...now I am on a roll! Planting beans this afternoon--the potatoes in the barrels are doing great! Well

Love ya all! Terri O

I just HAD to post this: I FINALLY have a Wolf River Apple seedling!!! I was going to chuck the seeds/the whole works since I thought the entire project was a dud. I just picked up more flowers and has to pass by the flat and there it was!

Back to gardening!

Thanks for the welcome!!
big_smile.png
I would have loved to come to the meetup, but we are too far away
sad.png
It would be about a 4 hour drive for us!
Everyone sounds like they are having tons of fun outside! We really needed the nice weather, I was getting sick of the rain!
smile.png
But, everything will definately grow good now! My son had his 2 year checkup this morning, and we went to a couple garage sales. I found a wire dog crate for $3 that I'm sure will come in handy! I am finding it very hard to wait until we get the coop done to get chicks! I'm trying to convince BF that they won't be able to go outside in it yet, anyway
wink.png
We are going to make a trip to the feed store this weekend, so maybe we will see if we can order some chickies!
clap.gif
I"m also excited, because my Mom and Step-Dad are going to come watch BF race this weekend! I think they will have a blast! BF made the kids a sandbox in his yard, too, so they are going to have a great weekend! Not that we don't every weekend, but
hu.gif
Well, going to browse the message boards while the kids nap! I hope everyone has a good day!

Evening to All...Doc it rocks to be tired on an I made it so basis, Eh! Yep more than a full honest days work here too!
Down to camp this mornin...gosh those good old boys are teaching me more every time I'm around them. Four 80 year old guys that can show you how to drop a tree on a dime with block and tackels, leaning the wrong way coulda wrecked a fence or a outside grill....well worth the time spent....another eye opener..gonna really miss those guys someday, I hope no time soon.

Got another garden planted after that. One to go. Things lookin good so far....then the phone rings...want some white bass! Well, that's a given....drove to town for a cooler with 42 nice bass...
wee.gif
I relly enjoy them. packed them in layers of ice for the filet knive in the mornin.

Again, another blessed day here on the hill...God Is Good, and I'm Thankful.

Christine!

Been busy with getting the garden ready and finishing my calf hut/brooder house. I'll post a pic when I'm done playing with it. Have the floor put in and working on the door. A warm day and wish I could have just sat around watching the honey bees and birds. Saw a garter snake in the yard
ep.gif
. The chickens spotted it too. I won't see that one again, and it suits me fine.

Glorious Morning Everyone! It's sprinkling outside. Thanks BL4 for the web site! Going to have to drop in there when we're in Point. I can't believe I'm saying this but after I make a gate and some mater cages the gardens are all done. Quite the sense of accomplishment!
clap.gif
Your right Bigz, an honest days work! I cleaned out the brooder so I made a cage and brought the lil ones out into the wide wide world. It was their first time out of the box, they thoughly enjoyed it! The wire was big enough for them to walk through but it gave them a safe haven too. All the girls came to see what had been making the noises in the garage, no signs of aggression, yet. Peaches walked around the cage talking to them softly explaining he was in charge and would protect them to the death. While I was watching them I heard a noise in the garage I went and looked here was Goldie all nestled down and compfy in the brooder, think she remembered it. It was funny! Dad came home yesterday and will go in Monday to decide on his options. Wants to get a machine that he plugs into at night, hope it works. I chewed him a new one to point he was laughing at me. TO there's lotso sites on the warmouth. Don't know what your building codes are there but you might want to check into it. If busted by the code cops they could make you tear it down. Otherwise it depends on you soil. If it's good solid ground and it'll support the weight and any weight that might be put on it then blocks would be just fine. If it's soft ground you can use a post hole digger and go down about a foot and a half to two feet and 6-10 inches in diameter and use Quickcrete for pile ons. Cristine hope you get your chickens, your life will change forever! Gotta get my house work done. Already feel a nap comin on.
