Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Yep, it started back up here... I nice slow rain that will soak in and just a bit of thunder and lightning to make it interesting!

Here's a shot of one of our 4 wk old turkeys.

Still in the brooder but haven't needed the heat lamp for awhile now. Will be moving them outside to their coop next week.

Frenchie... I know your world is revolving around the horse thing, but I DID announce I was taking my children to MN for a few days to visit my friend. Jeepers... Listen when the Queen speaks :p

BTW... I did WIN. Not the pic contest from the Mothers Day Hatch a long. But I won the worst hatch rate prize LOL! I get to pick 2 dozen eggs for fall or spring shipment. I can pick black javas, white javas, buff orpingtons, autumn jabays. Then there are bantams to choose from as well. Not sure what I'll pick! But I'm opting for shipment in the spring to start off next years hatching addiction. ;)

I didn't realize how many animals I had until I leave for a few days and then come back! My hubby did great caring for them all. I wish some of the babies would grow faster so I can put them in with the general population sooner! All learning experiences...

I think I among to make the trip to the TSC in Portage tomorrow. I'll see if it's worth the drive. Right now I pay &19.99 for a 50lb bag of chick feed. That's right in town. That's probably going to be the best bet because of the gas money. But I would like to see what TSC has anyway.

I took inventory of my animals the other day. It was scary!

1 Horse
2 Goats
1 Dog
2 cats
1 Parrotlet
2 Beta Fish
2 cichlids + a pleco
1 whites tree frog
2 mice
10 call ducks
1 mallard
26 freedom rangers
3 silkie mixes
22 bantam cochins
1 Iowa Blue
1 dorking
1 penedesenca
22 orpingtons
4 barnevelders
Is that 106 animals I'm feeding?! I shouldn't have taken inventory. I still have call ducks and cochins hatching too :(

Good evening everyone. Welcome to everyone new :)
It never did rain here but we had an overcast all day.
The horse issue is really sad to read about, I hope all works out.

I had a nice visit with my mom and niece, well except for hearing that my SIL is treating my niece like complete crap while she is over there for visitations. Ugh I hate that woman. Anyway, you all dont need to hear more drama. They didn't stay long, they came in last night and left this morning. DD went back to my moms with them, I wont see her again until August :(. Unless she gets home sick then she'll come back sooner. This will be the longest she has ever been away from us. I already miss her, but know she'll have a blast. My mom is having a large pool installed Tomorrow or Monday depending on if the pool is delivered or not tomorrow. Plus DD gets to see her BFF we moved away from.

On the chicken front, a couple of the roosters keep mounting the chickens and ducks. All the big chickens will be 17 weeks old Monday. The stupid dog got ahold of my Pekin today, he's lucky my duck isnt hurt. He's been so good but the past week or two he is starting to lunge at the ducks. Looks like I need to get some new batteries to the shock collar. I picked Shifu ( the baby rouen/jumbo pekin mix) up today and she is getting a raspy quack instead of the "quack" quack. Hmmmm sounds like She may actually be a he. She's 7 weeks old and I know my pekin deffinitly had her quack by that age. Its all good though, IF she is a he I would love to get some babies from mixing Shifu and Po .

Well Goodnight everyone.

I buy Purina flock raiser from TSC for $15.99 plus you can sign up on their website for coupons. They email $2 off coupons to print. So 50 pounds for $13.99. I know thats not cheaper than buying bulk but if your like me , their isnt a bulk place close enough to make the gas cost worth it.

When you are at TSC scout around to see if they have any discounted feed. Bright yellow tags. Ask a clerk in that department if they have any.
I get my pot belly pig food for $9 a 25 lb bag instead of the usual $15 if they have it marked down.
I got two huge bags of mana pro vitamin pellets that were marked down once.

Horse woman never called today. I tried no answer. She must be ????? I then called her hubby and he said he would have her call me.

Slept well. Had tons of dreams. Real weird dreams. Butt dog was in the dream. My exboyfriend (who happened to be a big drinker (no wonder with all this contact with this woman) and an old friend was also in the dream.

I love my dreams, they are even more interesting then my "As it turns" life episodes sometimes. To bad they are so hard to explain, would make some interesting reads !! LOL How bout you TO have you been dreaming lately? I remember you had some good ones.

This whole horse thing is wearing me out. Taking up a lot of my energy. Now I remember how it was dealing with a drunk. Good one day, bad the same day etc etc etc. Repeat next day !!!! Geez

Anyway, speaking of horses, my sister just got back from a trip to Makinaw Island. 6 hours north of our Cabin in Monico.
She said she would take me their for vacation next summer. It is all horse riding, carriages, horse taxi's and bikes. No motor vehicles.
She drove a big Belgian for the first time. You rent the horses to take a tour. He kept trying to drive on the wrong side of the road.
After the tour she told them what Jerry kept doing. They were surprised until the realized Oh yeah, We bought Jerry from Europe where they do drive on the wrong side !! LOL Funny thing because her husband likes to cross the center line a lot. She B!tches the whole trip at him. My DH likes to ride along the ditch line !!! Must be a Chuck thing. They are both named Chuck. I always kid between the two of them they drive a straight line !!!
Neither are fun to drive with as the co pilot back seat driver !!!! Makes it hard to take a nap !!! LOL
Had another Lavender Ameraucana hatch out. Makes 2 now.

When it rains it pours! Going to check out another car tomorrow evening after work..... but still holding the one we drove on Wed......

Amy the DH thinks they are grouse chicks as well....

Good luck Frenchie!!!! Follow your gut all the way!

Just went out and celebrated the anniversary of some friends of ours, it is their 9th and they have just had baby # 4 a few months back..... it was nice to see them without kids.

MXM that sounds like a wonderful time! I know you asked me about 50 shades; yes I finished all 3 books a week or so ago. I looked at the Abe Lincoln Vampire Slayer book the other night...... not sure if I want to read it yet or not.

Should hit the hay here, I think I am still recovering from that third shift stint. I was exhausted today and completely skipped my run for sleep.....

Later!

I can see why you're not sleeping well, FT. What a mess. If that officer contacts you again, tell him, very calmly, that you are greatly concerned for the well-being of that horse, and your only concern is to get that horse out of there and give it a good home, if not permanently, than at least until a good home is found. Tell him you are working on a price with the woman to keep her happy, otherwise, given her history, she may become very troublesome for all parties involved if the horse is taken away from her by force. Tell him if he has a better idea, you would like to hear it. As Terri said, finding a place to take him, a way to transport him, to care for & rehab him is not going to be easy or cheap, especially given the economy & all the cutbacks. You would be doing them a favor taking all of that on. If he can see the logic in this, ask him very politely to not press the owners about the horse's condition and tell him your fears of retaliation from her. Tell him to ask the people you talked to about what they think of her, then he will know your fears are genuine. Above all, stay calm and collected when dealing with him, and go out of your way to be nice to him, no matter how bad you might want to smack him. You could invite him to inspect your animals so he can see that they are well cared for with plenty of food , water and adequate shelter, among other things. Tell him you really do not need another horse, but you would be willing to provide it with care and shelter if the "shelter/humane organization" would be willing to provide some vet care. If you stay pleasant, friendly and sound like you're willing to work with him on getting that horse in a better place (and are willing to provide it), he may come around. And who knows, if the horse recovers nicely, they (all involved) might decide that he should stay where he is instead of disrupting him again. Maybe your DH (OM) will come to like the horse by then too (just make sure you keep telling him "it's just a temporary thing, honey").

Ok, what else? Oh yeah. I want rain!!!!!!!! Send some down here, Vicki! The only thing green down here was the weeds, but even those are starting to curl up. My lawn is crunchy. And I darn near broke my hand shovel trying to plant some flowers this afternoon.

I could barely get it to go down a half inch. I don't know about global warming, but we're sure getting some serious global drying around these parts. Driving up our driveway is like a scene out of the dust bowl era.

Sorry Bigfam, but you're losing to the cute chickie in the flower. The look on your chick's face that is looking at the duckie is priceless. Kinda reminds me of how I look at you sometimes.

That's crazy what you're paying for chick feed. Is it organic or something?

That's right, plus TSC should have a Purina punch card that they stamp every time you buy a bag of feed or scratch, so after you buy 10 bags, you get a free one. Sometimes Purina gives out coupons that are "buy so many bags of feed/scratch, get one free". Unfortunately that is how I found out their layer feed is crap. I don't care much for their scratch either, but I do use their chick feed.

Awwwww Amy, poor little babies! That is so darn sad about their mommy. So he killed the mom but didn't know what she was? They're beautiful. Poor babies.

I'm so glad someone found & caught them.

Good luck with the weeds, Bigz. That's a never-ending battle. If you have any vining crops like cukes, pumpkins, squash, etc, if they are on the ground, I like to lay cardboard down for them to climb over. Weigh it down with rocks, straw or garden staples. Keeps the grass & weeds from growing up through it.

Marg, glad you had a fun sleepover! Sorry you missed out on your book.
