cs, in what general area are you looking to move to, if you don't mind me asking?

I am sure someone here could provide a temporary home for your birds if you wind up getting busted. But I wouldn't get rid of them until that time, if I were you. I thought for sure some of my neighbors would want to come & throttle some of my roos, but after asking most of them, they said they actually liked hearing them crow because it made them feel like they were living in the country.

Latest update on DH.
I decided today that I was not going to wait to hear from them regarding the broncoscopy and wait for the appointments with the cardiologist and pulmonologist that they scheduled for mid to late August !!!
I called the pulms office and voiced my concerns about it and also the fact that the pulm appointment was with his PA and not him. I also wanted to know if there were any results yet.
She said a nurse would call me back.

Well, a nurse didn't call back. The Doctor himself did and he said he was very concerned and had just spoken with the cardiology department.
He said the DH does indeed have Sarcoidosis in his lungs and he may also have cardia sarcoids. He said that they would be calling me shortly to reschedule his appoinment and would also be scheduling some more tests.
They did call and he is going in for an MRI on his heart on Monday and back to see the Electrophysiologist at 7:40am on Tuesday.

He said this is a big deal and he needs the heart doctors to see him before he starts treatment so any tests they run won't give false neg results.
I asked what the treatment of choice would be and he said Methotrexate (sp) and Prednisone and for probably NO LESS then TWO Years !!!!

He also said if DH experiences any cardiac symptoms at all that he should go straight to Wausau Aspirus........ Do not go any place else......and that I should tell them that he has Cardiac Sarcoid and give them his name.

Said this is a big deal and serious stuff. Cardiac Sarcoid is very rare I guess. He said this has been going on for quite some time and that it develops slowly in the heart.
TG we went to Wausau and found this guy.
The good news in all of this is that it is not caused by our birds or chickens..... They do not know what causes it.

Ok, that's it for now. I'm beat. Long day with calling and waiting etc. We went to a local bar in Pelican Lake for FFF and it was the best we've ever had there. Makes me want more...NOW !!! lol

Early Evening All... Welcome rcathman...good folks here for sure!

Kepping it short...anothr trip to Green Bay to see the special eye guy.....for folks in the know, those drops they give, do't help vision....need to go back next week for another laser shot ( you know jim, the kind that don't hurt) Doc is telling me that he will open a window for the shootin eye and things will be better. Promises, promises...eh!

Hope everyone is at their best...bl4...tell em that their is way more than 4 wild birds on everyone's property and nobody has to clean up after them unless it's on the windsheild, and their ain't no chicken pooing there....besides one good rain and it's all gone...unlike dog crap.

For all of you suggesting golf balls to discourage egg eating, let me share my tale. Remember my "broody butt"? Well, she has been good about letting me remove her from the nest the past couple days and put her outside so she can eat, drink, etc.

, and even not absolutely bolting for the nest when I opened the pophole so it looked like she was getting over things. Meanwhile, my one hen (not sure which) has started laying thin-shelled eggs again, not worried, upped the calcium, figures it's probably the heat. However, somebirdy, probably Crockpot

, figured out they were easy pickins and have been going after them. Enter the golf balls. I put two orange range balls (used those because I figured the color would be an attractant) in the nest boxes (I have a 3 holer with no dividers). What happens? Broody Butt finds them, immediately claims them, parks her feathered bottom on them and dares anyone, including me, to touch them! Geesh!

Ok, I've always considered myself a reasonably intelligent individual, in fact I had a rather high IQ before having children, so how is it that I am getting outsmarted, on a regular basis mind you, by feather covered rototillers???????????

Oh Vicki--you are so funny! I can just imagine the expression on your face when you discovered that! I really do think you should just give her some eggs to hatch and be done with it! She is obviously very determined. I put my very determined hen on some turkey eggs...it was pretty obvious that the turkey didnt want to set on them!

I am sitting in front of my window A/C unit with a towel on my head and another one over my shoulder! The towels are blocking the air from the unit...sheesh it is COLD! I was out to do part of the chores...the birds were not wanting to go into their respective night time spots. I moved some fans around so hopefully I can lock them up when I go out in a minute. I dont think I can stand being in front of this much longer!

I need to sleep anyhow so I can get up and try fox hunting again in the morning...guess I better go on out and then up to bed!

Before y'all hunt me down, here is the nummy pickle recipe from DrH:

This makes 8 qts. 8lbs of cuc's, 4 cups white vinegar, 12 cups water, 2/3 cup canning salt, 16 cloves garlic, 8 sprigs dill weed, 8 dill heads, 8 grape leaves. Wash the cuc's and throw them in ice water. The recipe says 2-8 hours. I tried 2 -3 and they weren't very crisp. Found that 6 hours works great. I make ice blocks in 5 qt ice cream pails filled about a third full otherwise it splits the bottom out of the pail. Put a grape leaf in the bottom of the jar and a cut in half garlic clove, add the dill, pack with cuc's that have the bottom 1/4" [flower end] cut off, and add the second cut clove. Add the boiling brine, seal them up and water bath for 15 minutes. Hot jars 1/2" head space. I have had a few go milky for whatever reason, don't know why. TO says she eats them but I won't. The brine is the water, salt ,and vinegar. The really sucky part is that for them to be really really good is that you have to wait 8 weeks to eat them. Store in a cool dry place.

Pickle away!!!

Welcome Rcath!

Hey guys, I was looking at houses tonight (as I have been obsessively for about a week) and found 4 that seemed to be zoned AG. My dad will be moving in with us at some point in time, so I've been looking for an in-law suite, acreage, and zoning info!

No time to check the garden today. I was talking to my dad for about 2 hours then had to go to a soccer board meeting.

Well I better get off this thingy, I need to get ready for bed.

This morning I found one of my black orps stuck behind the wire cage, between it and the wall. I dont know how long she was there, but she was wobbly and weak. I brought her inside for the day to recover. The deal was sealed when the black orp cockerel, who is already mean, jumped on her as she struggled to walk to do his thing. These chickens are only 2.5 months old! Well I felt bad enough for her to bring her in. Anyhoo, I was taking her out just now to slip her back into the coop. I felt a lump on the back of her neck. It is gross. I think its a tumor of some sort. I know nothing about chicken ailments. I only know Mareks can cause tumors, so of course I start worrying if it could be that. (because that could be absolutley devastating to my flock) I took some pictures. tell me what you guys think...

Hi all,

Just found this website and am glad I did. We live in Madison, have 3 hen and one unintentional Wyn. Blue Rooster. He is very social but loud enough to wake the dead. Also, our hens are about 5 months old and none have started to lay. Is that normal? We have a Silver Wyn., a Americana, and a Columbian Rock. Should I be putting golf balls into their nesting area to stimulate them?

golf balls will do nothing to stimulate egg production.. they might encourage an egg layer to lay eggs where the golf balls are placed..
