Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

There is one heck of a storm hitting right now. Need the rain. Better go take the chicks in, knowing them they'll sit out in it. Anyone want a SLW roo? xD or 7? haha

Hi all!
This will be really fast...I have to pick up out turkey that we got from the fair....then I'll be back....
I was going to wait but saw BigFams pic. Heather, the lump looks like a feather shaft that is having issues. The black lump looks interesting. Can you cut it open? If so, cut it open and see what you have. Drain it if you need to and keep it clear since it will be an "abscess" type wound for treatment. You can also give her a shot of Penicillian. Sorry this is rushed call me if you need to. You should have my cell. If I don't pick up leave a message and I'll can you back. Depending on when you see this I might be with Mr. Bob the Turkey guy....

Yeah! Rain!!
Ok gotta jet...

BigFam-
it almost looks like a tick that is buried under the surface.. it couldn't hurt to lance it and see if anything comes out... especially that black spot

Good Morning All!

I am glad the rain came through for some of you. It woke me up early this morning, but it didn't last too long here.

I went out this morning to open up the coop and I only saw one pullet in the run when usually there are 3. So, I peeked into the coop/nest box area and I have 2 girls patiently waiting an egg!
Ohhh, my one egg/day is about to be 2 eggs a day! Its egg-citing at this number, but I can imagine that it is a chore for those of you with many layers!

I have been putting off going to work today, so I better run!

Later

Good rainy morning everyone. Welcome to the newbies. Not to much here going on, its raining, the chickens are wet, still getting a brown egg a day , and still now white eggs since the first one. Other than that I'm just hangin out today. I hope everyone has a great day.

Thanks for the update Bl4! Bf4me I was thinking the same thing as WCc and MLH looks like an in grown feather maybe. I'm with them cut it or lance it. But I don't know nuthin it's just what I'd do. Keep us posted! Vic hope your arm heals quckly! Dan if the they laid golf balls we'd be raising turtles for eggs. Can you imagine waiting for them to go to roost? OK I'm avoiding the carrots in the sink. I need to invent a carrot scrubber.

Oh no, it never gets to chore status. Like an Easter egg hunt every day!

So, I was lured into complacency with my coon victory. Lost another mama with 2 chicks last night. This one didn't wait for me to leave a pen open, it ripped thru the wire.

So the trap is going out every single night, gamecam too. If these ********* things start going after my ducks I'm gonna pitch a tent and wait with loaded gun. I will win this war.

Doc, if you invent a carrot scrubber I'll be your first customer.

BL4, keep us posted on when to rally the troops.

Happy to hear the rain is falling on those who need it! Overcast here today and it feels good!

a quick tip,,,,,

I put carrots, taters, all root crops in a sifter I made for potting mix,,,,I think it's 1/4# hardware cloth on a 1x6 frame ,,,,,set this up on buckets,,,,

then place the crop in it and then use a hose with a pressure tip (looks like a small funnel, mines brass but they come plastic)

works great if you have good pressure be careful or you will peel tender skins,,,,works best when you have just harvested and not allowed to dry off

Amy- sorry to hear about your hen and chicks. Thats terrible! Good luck with the trap.

Enjoying the cooler weather today, and hopefully doing some things long neglected. Kids have softball tonight- should be beautiful weather.
Hope you all have a great day

Yeah, I have one of those hose tips too.. nice to have, but mine doesn't have a shut off valve..

for initial washing of carrots/potatoes.. I put them into the wheelbarrow with enough water to float them.. then take the handles and rock the w/barrow side to side.. change the water a couple of times ..
