(ok, I am sorry but really, how can any self respecting chicken head resist?)

CC~loved your story! that kind of stuff makes me sound normal, I love it!

A hot air balloon? Really? WOW! The plane was bad enough but that would have had my crazy ladies layin' square eggs!

all set to go for the great egg switch. Wish it was warmer. Suggestions for the best way to keep the eggs warm during the transfer appreciated. Rigged up a candler on my little led flashlight. These eggs are about two weeks in on their incubation so candling should be easier. Hope so. It has been 20+ years since I candled an egg.

If none look viable I just might go ahead and grab some of her fresh ones and let Broody Butt try those. Hope to get this done quickly. This is the perfect day to get after that pile of toms in my kitchen!!!

WHOOPS!
frow.gif
my neighbor just came running across my field with a little towel-draped basked screaming "Vicki, Vicki! I got the eggs!"
ep.gif
She was afraid of the crazy duck because she had went after her the last time she snooped around her nest so went she spotted the duck to hop off for her break, she just went for it
gig.gif
. Oh well, so much for candling the eggs first. Too cold this morning so I didn't want to take the chance so in the broody nest they went, grabbed Broody Butt and shoved her in the cage, crossing my fingers
fl.gif
because I hadn't had a chance to put her in there with her golf balls yet.
roll.png
She just went up to the nest, looked back at me like, "Are these for me?" Hopped on and settled in! This crazy chicken would be a breeder's dream! Now, I can only hope she will be as good a mom as she is a sitter
pop.gif
. Didn't get a good look because I was trying to do everything as fast as possible, but there were 4 brown and 1 very pretty blue egg. Glad there were no white ones. Still, her flock is such a hodgepodge with 2 roos that each have their own girls, there is no telling what these will turn out to be if they make it. Going to be kind of like Christmas if they hatch

Morning all!
Let's see, not much going on yet! I got the lawn mostly mowed before it started to rain yesterday. I still have one little patch in the front and the "dog yard" in the back. I forgot to clean the dog yard before I hopped on the mower, so I decided to forego doing that since I was trying to get the majority of the weeds/grass done before the rain. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

I have a spot in the basement where the door jam is that has been leaking when it rains. That development is new, so I took a good look and started to groan. I think I might have to have a stone mason out to fix the hole that I found. DH and I are going to take the door off this weekend and get a really good look at it. I kinda feel bad about the door. It's a suckie door in a way but it has to be about 100 years old. The hardware on it is forged. Ah well, 100 years is not to bad for a door.

What else, ummm.....ahhhh....ummmm.....I guess that is the extent of my news. The dogs are good, have yet to visit the chickerdoodles and bunnies. Thought I'd stop by here first!

Judge-On your rooster: Per DH's seminar's there are 4 things you can try. DH has done 1-3 and has had some success.
1.Pick him up and hold him until he is calm. Hold him so he can't bite you and hold him while you do chores and such. Basically dominate him. Don't let him go when he is mad.
2. Same a #1 but grab him and hold him upside down by his feet making sure he can't bite you on your leg and parade him around in front of his Girls..
3. Same as #2 but dip him in water (though not in the winter!) and humiliate him by parading him in front of his girls.
4. Rename him Crock Pot or Stew of Roast and use liberal amounts of carrots and potatoes and have a nice meal.

While my DH is nice and will try to work with a mean roo, I just go straight to #4. I don't mess with a mean bird. Jim is completely correct. There are way to many nice roos out there. Also as he matures if he is a meanie head, then you don't want to breed that aggression in your lines.

overcast morning here with the sun trying to come through- maybe some more rain again today- had a nice rain yesterday afternoon. Our grass has greened back up and will need to be cut again.

had a long post typed last night and hit the wrong key and it disappeared so I went to bed- everyone by 9:30 pm last night.

anyone planning to attend the poultry show in Portage this Sept? We just received our information- not sure if we will or not this year.

After a long discussion DS(10) has decided that showing chickens isn't really for him and has decieded not to continue. So if anyone is interested in some lt brown bantam leghorns let me know- the ones that went to fair did well, we have 3 trios. By the time DS(7) is able to show chickens he'll probably want a different breed and DD is happy working with her chickens.

Have a good one!

good morning,, made just a half pot O coffee.. I am the only one drinking it today..

Annie is contacting my nephew to come help me clean out the garage.. I was out there this morning.. It should not take but a couple of hours..
I might hang some halogen lights on that side of the garage.. It is so dongeony and dark.. and to top it off, Annie has those curly lights in most of the sockets.. You might as well just carry a candle as to use those things..

It rained almost all night.. not hard, but by midnight we had a good half inch.. this is the perfect king of rain.. just a drizzle.. that should soak in real good..

my corn is getting tassles.. I hope it sets good kernels.. Once again, despite my good intentions,, the weeds have taken over most of the garden.. I have not even kept up with tying up the tomato plants.. so much for planter fewer and taking better care of them.. but tomatoes are like weeds, they fruit just as much on the ground as they would on a stake..

I never did get the cukes and squashes mulched,, the broken tractor bucket saw to that.. I am sure missing my tractor..

well , cuppa is almost gone.. and it is cold already..

Well CC I'm glad you're not sporting the pirate patch. Otherwise I'd feel like I have to wear a peg leg to make you feel comfortable for the mini. Hey Jim, that's an idea. You can always attach a peg leg to the third leg if you need that length back...:D

The girls are slacking on the laying in the boxes. I think I might have to leave everyone locked up until 4:30 so laying in the boxes is done. Unfortunately, mine seem to be afternoon layers. But there's no reason why I should get one egg a day with 5-6 layers. It's p!ssng me off.

I have my 20th class reunion this weekend. The adult drinking event Friday night and the family picnic on Sat. Calling for mid 70s and sun, should be perfect! Getting the hair dyed red again today. Bought a new outfit last night ( I hate hate hate shopping for me). So I should look pretty decent for the thing. Haven't gone to a reunion yet, so a bit nervous.

Later, watch out for Short-Shaft-Jim.....

I neglected staking the maters as well this year. They are planted over black plastic which helps, but it is still the Amazon out there. THe guineas have found them and are eating away, WTH?

Ok there are enough people on here with little ones at home... I am sure some of you are creative and fun. So the twins turn 6 in a few weeks. Thus far we have gotten away with having a cookout birthday party with family and our close friends with kids ( who have been playing together for years but not in our school district) I usually do a craft project, otherwise let them run and play on swingset and with chickens.

So this year we finally have local friends. So I will probably do the cookout as before, but also have a little party with 4 or 5 friends each. Being the type of mom I am, I am going to do a make your own pizza for snack or maybe just decorate your own cupcake... not sure. I have flower lei necklaces for the girls to make but no ideas for the boys or any game or thing... any ideas any one?
