Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all!

Vicki congrats on the babies! What fun for you!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. If ANYONE has any off the wall ideas/approaches I am all ears. Any kind of alternative line of reasoning/thoughts are welcome since I believe that is an approach the Council needs to hear. Possible money makers for the city are one route to take.....

Ok off to work!

Everyone enjoy your day!

Oh soggy day to you all! I was awaken this morning my the sound of wind blowing rain into the windows and thunder/lightning to follow.

Congrats on the egg hatch. Is she happy now?

Waiting anxiously on the ordinance outcome.

Great pics and maters.

Well I had needed to change out the feeder & waterer today. Either my girls have gotten messy with their food all of a sudden because its getting into their water or a critter is getting into the food.

We are only getting one egg per day at the moment. So far, one of my layers has skipped 2 days and Pullet/hen #3 still isn't laying. How long by the way does it take for a hen to cycle through again? What I mean by this is that hens lay for a few days then skip a day right? Is it just one day?

Good Wet Morning Everyone!

Bl4 is right I almost farted I mean fainted! So glad you checked in and hope you do so more often. If you'd be interested in a Black Aussie roo let me know I have 2 both are very handsome boys. Jim there are advantages to being color blind. I myself prefer contrast.

Don't need a case of JB have used maybe a third of the tubes and 90% of that was used on spots that might someday leak. Will do a test around 10 the 24 hour cure time will be over then. JB is wunnerfull stuff! Once I'm satisfied that the leak is fixed I'll primer the tank too. Hmm might have a can of red out there somewhere. Vic that's so cool about the eggs hatching after their ordeal! Are you sure it wasn't quacking? Amy yup can just see the wheels turning!

Bigz right click on the offending smilie and a weird box thing should be around it then left click cut or allow access and it will go away. WCc no cash crop here.

Wet morning here by us- rain started around 5:30 am this morning. Dogs are waiting to go outside as they don't like to when it rains!

Finished another unit turn over yesterday- this one is a house we manage 1 block off Camp Randall and we had only 2 full days to go through do repairs, replace the kitchen floor and counter top, paint the 2.5 story house and clean so that the new tenants could move in. We're all moving slower today, I have a few more places to get ready but will be hanging out around the house today- my right wrist is sort of swollen this am and has been sore since last night. Thinking with all the cleaning and painting we have had to do lately that I put strain on the tendons.

Sorry to hear that some of the girls aren't laying to well, our girls are doing pretty well, we are getting around a dozen eggs per day, we have new pullets starting to lay too.

We have used medicated feed in the past, I guess it is all in what you perfer, our last 2 batches of chicks are on non-medicated and seem to be doing well.

Bigfam4me- hope you had a good anniversary! We will be celebrating our 15 year next week Thursday, we are taking a couple days off next week and taking the kids to the Dells- they are all excited and looking forward to that. This summer has been busier than normal and not many days spent at home.

Looks like the rain has slowed some and I can get chores done. Have a great day!

Hey, CC, are you sure what you have is yarrow and not tansy? I've never seen yarrow flop but have seen tansy flop because their flowers are substantially bigger and heavier than yarrow... I think tansy is known for being more invasive than yarrow? Trivia: did you know you can use yarrow as a mosquito/bug repellant? Just grab a bunch and rub it on where you want some bug repellant. It works! Not as long as chemicals, obviously, but it's nice to have this option if you're outside working and need some repellant but don't want to spray on chemicals. (Although if I'm going to be outside for any length of time and the mosquitoes are bad I take a fan outside to blow on me. It's a PIA but beats being bit and I avoid chemical sprays if I can!)
I'm pretty sure it's yarrow. It has all the characteristics & that scent. I looked up tansy & on the pics, it looks like their flowers are smaller than yarrow, and more mum-looking. I don't know why mine fall over, other than the flower heads are huge & the stems are real long.

Good little bit of info on the bug repellant.

Kris, some of my Dom hens had their combs pink up really fast compared to their siblings. I thought they might have been roos, but they were all girls. I hope you have the same luck.

Tiki, so sorry to hear about your MG hen.

I don't think we'd get much accomplished with all those beer breaks, Bigz, but it would be an awful good time trying.

Oh Unk, those are some beautiful pics with the deer.

Sorry the meeting didn't go that well, Bl4. That stinks.

Good luck at the next one.

Happy birthday, Cartman!!!!!!!!

Since today is our wedding anny, I have to go get a card and a .22 for the hubby.
Isn't that a wee bit on the harsh side?

Fordmommy! Sorry to hear about your roo.

Vicki, congrats on being a chickie gramma!!!!! I have raised chicks on both medicated and non feed. I think I prefer the medicated, IMHO. The medication isn't there to help sick chicks get stronger: it is to prevent your chicks from getting cocci, which can wipe out your entire chick population. Basically, it is just your own personal preference. Good luck with your babies!

cs, the egg laying is kind of sporadic, no real pattern that I am aware of. I've read that the egg laying cycle is every 26 hours, but a lot of factors can disrupt that. Things like dark, cloudy days can delay egg laying. And different breeds don't all lay with the same frequency. Production breeds can lay an egg a day, while some heritage breeds might lay only a few eggs a week.

H&R, I hope your wrist is beter soon. And happy anni to you too!
I can't believe this non-stop rain today! I'm not complaining since we need it so darn bad, but I haven't been able to get outside to let the chickies out yet.

They are NOT going to be pleased with me. But they've got plenty of room in their carport to run around in, so they can't be too mad. Think I might have to put the pedal to the metal & get out there soon. Have a great soggy day, all!

What does everyone do with their feed "dust", after a week the bottom half of my feeder is fine particles of feed, which the chickens don't seem to eat...

It's getting to expensive to throw out...

Ideas????

good dry Am.. no rain here ,,,yet.... felt like it was about to start when I turned the prisoners loose..

I want to paint the parts today.. I actually like the primer grey on the motor..,but it is not real durable without something over it..

BF4, yup,, bribery is a strong political tool..

Cind,, they didn't have any Fjiord Blue.. I do like that color, too.. I am with DrH,, colorblind..
I agree,,contrast is a good thing..

when we were kids, we rode at night a lot.. there was a beer bar 2 miles through the woods and across a couple of fields and one river.. sort of like over the river and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go.. anyway, the horses knew the way home,, lucky for us..

I have a coupon for a haircut that expires tomorrow.. maybe I will take care of it today..

UnkaDan, nice young buck there.. do you have it in the freezer yet?

............bbl.........jiminthebarberchairsoon...... BTW I do not have a copyright on this,, feel free to use it

a lot of that dust is fine sand or grit.. try mixing it with some fresh crumbles or ground grain..make it like a paste.. maybe they will eat that,, the ducks and geese will, I know.

amberflea...I see you are from Iola. I'm in Waupaca. As for the dust.... first thing....what brand of feed do you use? I get mine from JayMar and don't have too much of a problem with the dust. I usually just leave it in the feeder and eventually they eat it. Especially the babies. I don't feed the babies anything special when they are with the mommy. She feeds them what she wants to feed them.

Thanks for the offers on a new roo everyone, but I think I may be getting rid of the birds soon. Well, letting the live here til their end any way.

Thanks for the welcome back!
