Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

DrH, buy a case of JB Weld and keep at that tank.. you will get all the holes evenrually..

I took the head to the fix-it shop.. should be ready in about a week.. I wish I had known about that shop sooner,, he could have gotten the parts for me a bit cheaper.. I am going to take the crankshaft to him and he will check it for roundness.. He said something about the cylinder bushings that I did not fully understand.. like they have to be "fitted" ?

If the crank has to be turned, I will have to re-order the bearings.. I think the crank is OK , though..

the shop was working on some HUGE engines.. pistons as big as 3 pound coffee cans..

gotta go see what damage I can still do to the parts..

Had to go to GB for another
th.gif
onc appointment. Day started with fishing a toad out of the outside chicken water before I let them out. He wasn't dead, just too cold and stiff to get himself out. It was just too early in the morning to witness what those bug raptors would have done to him so I scooped him out and threw him in my squash patch. Then it was taking care of the girls, feeding the kitty, getting the pup ready. She had to go too because this was going to be a long day full of tests and stuff, yuch. On days like this hubby and puppy SAY they go play in the park while I am getting something done, but I know there is a Culver's just down from the hospital
wink.png
. I was hoping I didn't get bit on the ride down there because there most likely was a chipmunk loose in the car
roll.png
Caught one in a trap last night. Hubby took it to the state land to let it loose. Hubby took it out of the hatchback, opened the cage and the chipmunk promptly did a leap worthy of an olympic medal and landed right back in the car! He drives in the yard, we tear the car apart, no chipmunk. So, he rolls all the windows down and puts the car in the garage and we cross our fingers the critter vacates before morning. Don't know if it did or not, just that it didn't appear during our trip. Hubby rebaited the trap and put it into the back of the car hoping that if it is still in there we catch it again..

The trip actually went very well. The weather was good, the news from my onc promising and we even hit Nueske's on the way back and picked up several pounds of their yummy smoked hotdogs they had on sale.

Ok, the best news, here it comes, wait for it,

I'M A CHICKIE GRANDMA!
jumpy.gif
Got home, went to check on the girls, everything fine. Thought I would let Broody Butt out for a bit before dark and she was different. Bright and alert and friendly! I thought, ok, brood is over, oh well. Opened her cage but she didn't get off the nest, hmmmm. Then I heard the softest peep, peep, what the heck? Out pops this little head still not quite dry! My now totally docile momma had no problem with me doing a quick careful check of the other 2 eggs. 1 is pipping and moving right along, the other not showing any sign yet.

Fortunately I happened to pick up a bag of Nutrena chick starter last time I was in town "just in case". Honestly, after these eggs had been sat on by a duck for ? ran across a field in a dish towel and shoved under a hen, I really wasn't expecting the best outcome
hmm.png

Now, a question. Like I said, I bought Nutrena chick starter crumbles. Didn't notice at the time that this is not a medicated feed. I kind of like the idea this is not a medicated feed, but should I be concerned? Do I need to run to town in the morning and grab a different starter? I have the save a chick for their water already. Input good chickie gurus please!

This really is my first time with brand new chicks and need all the advice I can get. Got several books, but nothing is as good as being able to gleen knowledge from someone who's "been there".

Vicki congrats on new babies! You don't need medicated feed either. Best off not using meds right from the get go, IMO.

My roo has landed! Omro the Jaerhon is now in Colorado with his own harem and big expectations to father many multitudes of Jaer babies.

BL4, when is your next meeting? My Wyandotte is no longer broody, and I almost forgot I have the danged cutest little bantam black Orp hen. Biggest eyes I ever saw on a chicken. She has puppy dog eyes, if that's possible. Who can resist that??

Vicki- congrats! Personally, I don't use medicated feed. I figure if a chick isn't strong enough to survive without medication in the first week, they won't be strong adults and won't have strong babies. Just my personal opinion. I could be entirely wrong.

Haven't shared pics for a while....this is today - Tomatozillas!

Yeah, he is thinking about the best place to stick his fingers in - about 2 seconds after this pic.

Hi all! Going to try to respond some tonight!

TO... If your house is out of shape.... guess you got to ride him more!

Glad your ride was uneventful, though long. Can't imagine riding a trail I'm not very familiar with at night!

Hope it all comes together right in the end! Got to show it off here when it's done!

FM... Glad you stopped by! I'm fighting real hard to keep my laptop going so I know how you feel! When I sit down to it I never know how or if it will work!
hmm.png
Glad you got a new one! I happen to know a few people who may have an extra roo or 2 .... or 20!

Being a new mom the movement in the eggs might have confused her a bit... glad instinct kicked in and told her what to do! I wouldn't worry about the chick feed if no one has been ill. Funny, I went to the doc. toady too!

Amy... That roo just flew more miles in a day than most fly in a lifetime! LOL... s OK and happy! Nice pics.!

No FT? Thought she'd be back by now.

Bl4 is right I almost farted I mean fainted! So glad you checked in and hope you do so more often. If you'd be interested in a Black Aussie roo let me know I have 2 both are very handsome boys. Jim there are advantages to being color blind. I myself prefer contrast.

Don't need a case of JB have used maybe a third of the tubes and 90% of that was used on spots that might someday leak. Will do a test around 10 the 24 hour cure time will be over then. JB is wunnerfull stuff! Once I'm satisfied that the leak is fixed I'll primer the tank too. Hmm might have a can of red out there somewhere. Vic that's so cool about the eggs hatching after their ordeal! Are you sure it wasn't quacking? Amy yup can just see the wheels turning!
