I have a LATE bloomer. An androgynous chicken. Whatever you want to call it, my lav Orpington pullet is a roo. Honestly folks, it looks like a pol pullet and not a roo. But I heard the wimpiest crow for the first time out of it. How old is this gender confused bird? 6 months! It is a nice sized Orpington. It will be a decent size pot of soup.
I don't get how you folks with all the Roos keep them all. I can't wait to get them reduced in number. I struggle with doing it young, or grow them out so they at least give back to the family. I just hate to think of all the feed they eat before they're big enough to eat (since they're not meaties). I have 3 -4 Wheaten Marans cockerels to go, 2 lavender Orpingtons, a spare Icelandic roo. AND I'm still waiting to see what roo I have in the silkie house.
So CC and FT this means I dont even have a lav pullet anywhere. Stupid lavs.
