Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I don't get how you folks with all the Roos keep them all. I can't wait to get them reduced in number. I struggle with doing it young, or grow them out so they at least give back to the family. I just hate to think of all the feed they eat before they're big enough to eat (since they're not meaties). I have 3 -4 Wheaten Marans cockerels to go, 2 lavender Orpingtons, a spare Icelandic roo. AND I'm still waiting to see what roo I have in the silkie house.
So CC and FT this means I dont even have a lav pullet anywhere. Stupid lavs.
If I have any lav chicks hatch, did you want any?

As for the roos eating so much, don't you have a run for your birds? Keep your females in the run & let your "soup" roos free range around the yard & forage for their food during the day. They'll come around when it is time to go to bed. Or you can do like Jim & feed them a mix of oats & corn.

Oh, Terri, I agree completely. You do have a very pretty daughter. Two, in fact.

Since these are moose's babies having babies, I just realized you're promoting teenage parenting...

Btw... I've only had the ice cream twice since the 15th! I'm slow for another frustrating reason! Current race pace was 11.29 minute mile...

Big Fam you run faster than me! I will GLADLY donate that rack to anyone who wants it....

TO, this run was paid for by my employer since it is for a charitable cause ( I did not tell them the % that is for the research....). I look at doing these runs as motivation to get into better shape. I do not want to end up a couch potato! This year's WI event was run very well, much better than last year from what I have heard. I also LOVE doing the obstacles!

Feeling drained yet, so I think I will take a nap.....

interesting reading here today,,,,dirty girls and rack trading

Heather here is a quick read about traditional meat birds

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...raditional-meats-from-historic-chicken-breeds

I confined my roos for the last 3wks and fed primarily corn and oats,,,,not much fat but it did have the nice yellow for stock,,,,something else that surprised me with these free ranged then fed out birds when I made the stock over 12+hours there was none of the nasty grey slime in the pot when done

finished cleaning up my garlic, now to finalize my order this evening and get the call in for fall planting, ended up with just over 40lbs started with 10,,,not bad for the 1st years effort

My lav orpington roos butcher out larger than the meat birds I reaised this year. They take longer but they seem to eat a lot less feed per day. There are always Hmong that are happy to take any free birds anyone lists on Craigslist.

Finally the first of my April fools babies has laced. The cut little bantam leghorn laid a teeny tiny egg. So cute

Nice Day Here To All... great pics thanks for sharing them.

Hey unk, ...bl4 said she would donate them to anyone....want to share a rack?

Thanks for the kind words.

Prolly change the oil in the old truck tomorrow...plenty of trips north in it's future.

Good luck with the cold water Cind.

So these are my first non brown eggs on the same day, a white or just off white from bantam leghorn and the beautiful use from the Marans frizzle Cochin mix. Teeny eggs tough... So cute
