Anyone else raising their egg prices yet? My feed has gone up 30% since I started selling last fall (and not done yet I'm told by the mill), I started warning my customers this week, most expected it with the news on the drought

I helped butcher 30 roosters yesterday including 4 more of mine, good crew we actually got done in just over 2 hours including setting up. Cut mine up and have them in the fridge for a couple days, made 2 gallons of soup out of the backs, butts, and necks. This I will pressure can tonight good easy grab off the shelf this winter. Mine were from the "fool's day hatch" his were 17 wk old White Rocks all the birds went around 4.75 lbs.

That's a little bit of a haul...GoogleMap 'Wayside, WI' - that's our teeny town. I'm thinking we're at least 45 min apart. Got cukes coming out my ears, lots of chard, hot peppers, tomatoes and some good chunks of basil. Want some rambunctious ground cherry plants? :p

In photography, it really is more the 'eye' than the equipment. Nice cameras help, but nice cameras are at the mercy of their users. Even a disposable camera can produce a nice photo. DH's uncle has the same camera I do, and he found a lens for it at an amazing price online. I bet you could get a steal on a refurbished camera. There are companies that buy/sell used ones, I can dig the names out of my photo mags if you like.

LOl your garden sounds like mine I also have cucs, maters, chard, squash, kale, basically everything you do and then some and they are all comming outa my ears, I'm just canning my sweet relish, and then tomorrow I'll do dill relish, to use up some cucs, and if need be I'll make refrigerator pickles as well, plus we been eating them in salads, and such for a month already.........I really shouldn't be greedy for more, I think we will have plenty.
Though I encourage everyone to can and store what food they grow just in case, the way our economy is, the articles I have read in the last year, I plan to have enough to feed several families through the winter, because in my opinion things are gonna get worse, MUCH worse, between the feed companies already manipulating the feed prices the drought, and our crooked government, who I don't trust any farther than I can throw the Lincoln memorial, I have a funny feeling this winter is gonna take out anyone who isn't ready for it.
My garden has done well despite the drought. so have the crops here, but south is not good, the west had some awful drought as well, so who knows what winter might bring, buy when ya can and stock up on your food and food for your critters, because by January I'm expecting feed and grocery prices to be triple what it is now.
Sounds like you are a ways farther than I thought you were. So will have to take a rain check on extra veggies for now.... to broke to drive anywhere just now anyway......... TY anyway though...Kim
PS I think I will try my digital this fall for some pictures at least they are easy to load and size that way.........

How do you train mean roosters, I have one and I was thinking off with his head.........

Some roosters can be broke and calmed down some CAN NOT, you can try holding him and carrying him around for awhile, if that doesn't work, try holding down like another rooster would and pulling out a few feathers........... that worked for mine for awhile, but when he attached the grandson I chopped his head off kept his feathers and threw his butt in my freezer............ That is the easiest way BTW

I have been embarrassing him in front of his ladies, carrying him and hold him upside down and not allowing him to feed with the girls. I also give them treats and get them to come to my hand. It has worked for me, but they do not like the ladies in my life, and as pretty as they are, the woman in my life are more important! I have one phoenix and one black blue andalusian.

going to do some more reading, but im sure that i have enough irons in the fire that i do not need to do this.

So here are some pics!

These two are my favorites. Once again they did NOT put any kind of identification on the cages telling you what breed/type of chicken they were, other than Bantam or Standard.... very frustrating......

Great. Oldest DD just broke my wineglass..... AGAIN. BRB....
