*sigh*

My cue to turn in I guess.

BigZ... your hauling buckets reminded me....Bet I can do something with my new (from the bash) water bucket none of you others could do! With the bucket on the ground and the handle up... I can touch the handle without bending!

Sorry Cind, but I can do that trick too!

I ordered one of those waterers about a month ago and I love it. Thanks again for the recommendation, Bigz! I think TO mentioned it too.

Bl4, I wish you didn't have to go through all the hassles you're facing. Wishing you the best of luck.

Twiz, pretty pullet.

Jim, quit yer scratching.

Bigfam, glad you found your girl.

Unk, I just told DH to warn our customers that we'll be raising our egg prices due to the drought/corn prices. I really don't think it will be too much of a problem, since they've been harping about it on the news about the corn prices going through the roof. Nowadays, every business seems to be looking for the slightest excuse to justify raising their prices. Just look at the gas stations. They raise their rates every time their trucks have to take a one-block detour.

good PM, I did go to the walk in clinic.. I have a combination heat rash and some sort of "something" that I got into.. I still think poison oak.. Dr didn't know either.. got some real good salve and some pills to take to fight from within.. the itching has subsided a lot..

Joe, mean roosters make the best soup..

Dan, right on.. the tractor is going to be a wonderful sight.. white, black and Oliver green.. and gold tire rims..

I bought some feed at Fleet today.. all I can say is WOW !! are they ever taking advantage of the "drought" .. cracked corn was the cheapest,, guess what I bought..

the guinea keets pick the oats out of the ground corn & oats.. all that is left is corn meal in the feeder..

got another pullet egg today.. different color than the one yesterday..

quail are done hatching.. got 50% 18 out of 36.. have 36 guinea eggs set to go off on Sept 1.. Hope they do well.. Annies purples are in that bunch..

I have to get my but in gear and put the cockatiels on craigs list.. we have 3 full grown "babies" to get rid of..

...........jiminnotquiteasmuchdiscomfortasthismorning..........

OK, SUBMIT is not working.. hope I do not lose another post.. this happened a couple of days ago..

Hi All!

Jim... hope you feel less itchy today. If you have any Jewel weed on you place.... the sap from that works wonders.... so I've been told. My family is immune so I don't know first hand.

Bf4m... glad Pepper is safe! I love to see Baryshnikov dance!! When he did hid first televised American performance (yes, I'm old) I was transfixed! Loved him in White Nights!

TO... glad you fixed the little quail... hope you get horses well too!

Amy... I love ground cherries! Not sure where I could put the where the chickens wouldn't eat them. They don't like too much sun as I recall. TO/ I never had enough to do more than just eat them, but I would think you could do jam.

unk... Yep, I'm upping mine .50, people have complained, but when they start seeing egg prices go up in the stores I think they'll come around.

CC.... but you cheat! You do it sitting down!
lau.gif
However you are on the "tiny side" ... how long are you all stretched out? I'm 5' and shrinking!

Well, I have some good news!!! 2 things really... the hot water is working!
celebrate.gif
Don't know how or why.... it just started working again!
And.... My missing guinea hen is back! Well, kinda.... I saw her with at least 7 keets in tow !!! And being a not so bright bird she couldn't figure out how to get over the fence with her keets. I think she took them back to the nest. I'm not sure but I think it's at the neighbors that I don't know. I left a gate open for her for tomorrow. We'll see.

Night All!

FT... must be busy... hope all is well

Well Good early morning to y'all, Adam is back in school today after a 3 week fall break so we are back on our early schedule 5am rise and shine or Not. It's raining here this am, not hard no storms a bit of thunder and some nice quiet rain. Chickens are not so happy about it, they don't like wet feathers much and I picked up there dishes because they still had feed in them, and at the price I don't want it chicken soup that they will not eat. So they will just have to scratch around in what they wasted yesterday until the rain stops. Nothing sadder looking than a soaking wet rooster.....hehehehe Poor baby the big boys chase my new little guy out and he is just sitting on my deck trying not to drown.
Jim I told ya them prices were going the roof, and not just at Fleet Farm either my mill has added 3 bucks a bag since the end of July, then scheming crooks start raising prices a year in advance, and they are not the only thing the grocery stores are insane what cost me 80 bucks a few weeks back is now over 100, and the packages have shrunk as well,
I'm I the only one paying attention to this crap or what, my 5 lbs of sugar was first now it's 4, my 10 lbs of potatoes are now 8 per bag, the 3 lb can of coffee is 2.6 or 1.9 lbs.. the garlic bread we buy was always 8 slices now its 6, ...... feed bags like dog food cat food as well, they use to be 50 lbs and 25 for cats well now its 40lbs dog food, and only 16 for cat food.... this is getting so ridiculous, and the prices haven't shown the least bit cheaper, due to less in the bag, they have actually increased plus ya get less. !!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish everyone would start B- itching about this being taken advantage of, maybe they would quit there crap. Because I for 1 am totally fed up with there sh_t...........Then the electric and gas companies jump on the wagon for any old whim......... and walla!!!! your paycheck is going nowhere these days, no wonder there has been a 75% increase in ppl asking for food stamps, and heating help, plus they have chased all the decent jobs right south of the border, or over the sea and whats left Minimum wage jobs that ya need 3 of to get by.............unless of course ya want to live on nothing for years to go back to school, then there isn't even a guarantee of getting a job then...................a lot of ppl are being told they are over qualified for a job ?????? WTH is that so darn what just give me the stupid job I'm willing to take! have ya looked around at the economy these days, and I have kids and critters to feed..........Jesus this is insane already. Ok off my soap box for now
AnyWho ....TerriO hope the horsey gets better soon........
Cind glad ya have hot water again
BL4..... those first birds are Hamburgs, and the tall one is an Asil I think, but the other I'm not sure they are all very pretty though even the Asil which I really don't care for gangly looking chicken rates right up there with those naked necks funny looking birds..... LOL
Anyway whoever asked about ground cherries they make great Jam or jelly and I also have some that went crazy and in full sun....... so not sure about the shade thing. Well will see ya later all. Have a wonderful day. Kim

Morning all!!
Just getting all caught up before I get to the rabbits and chickens. Not much going on here. Got half the laundry done yesterday. DH had to go on an over night trip to the Ill/Wisc Game Breeders meeting and he left his over night bag in his car. So I have to get him to unload his work cloths so I can launder them.

Took Buddy to the vet yesterday for his blood check and he did good. Then I gave him a bath. He rolled in something and got all stankie. Now he is all clean and cute with "fly away" fur...LOL!!

Welcome to Pecks Corner! Lots of nice folks here. I agree with Dan, GR65 (Kim) and Jim off with the mean roosters head. While there are somethings you can try to turn a mean rooster to a nicer one, they usually have to come from the person he torments most. If the person is a small child then that won't work. H&R is right, that meanness can breed through the line. I culled my mean roosters. There are always good decent sweet roosters needing to find great homes. Life is way to short to deal with a mean rooster.

BL4-Those pics are nice! The first ones are Silver Spangled Hamburgs (I think!) the second one is a Birchen Modern Game Bantam (definately!) and the third one is most likely a Golden Duckwing Old English Game Bantam. Hard to tell from the face shot. Plus he's not dubbed so he might be something else. But those are my guesses.

Well, best get a move on.....
Later peeps!

Mean rooster talk... Fits for me too :(. Since someone mentioned how I cull SO much, I have a hard time doing in a healthy bird. Ox is big and beautiful and healthy alright. But yesterday he nipped my 13 yr old's leg. He charged and grabbed my 6 yr old twice. He went after my 10 yr old too. But he does nothing to me. He behaves himself around the kids when I'm near them. But I can't be around them all the time.

Should I really do him in folks???

he'd be gone here at our place, but everyone has to do what's best for them.

Bigfam, I am so not gonna comment on that one.

Cind, details, details.......

I was 5'7 once upon a time. Good to know about the Jewel weed. I'll have to look that up. You awe me in your knowledge of flora. Wish I knew a lot more about that. I'm glad your hot water is working again. That would drive me nuts! I know nothing about hot water heaters, but could something inside be caked with mineral deposits? Probably wouldn't explain why it's working again.

I hope you get it figured out & it's a cheap fix. Glad you found your guinea.

Ghost, you've summed up what DH & I have been saying for a long time now. Greed is the driving force of our society these days, and that never ends well.

Enough procrastinating, I guess. bbl.
