Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I think I lost my Mayzee yesterday. She always stays on the porch and when it is time for bed she comes inside with the dog. The night before last there was a bunch of stuff going on and I forgot to let her in. She has been missing since. . Last night she didn't show up. I fear she was taken by a predator yesterday. :hit

Have you been able to look for her? Try putting something she thinks is really yummy out, can't hurt.

My chickie has more wing feathers today and I think I spot some popping on the butt. However! It has hysterically big feet! and boy can the little thing move!!! It sees me coming to scoop it up to put back in the coop and it get's those little wings flapping and looks like a tiny terradactyl tearing across the run

Not sure about the shape so I just ran out and snapped these pics

Ready, set, GO!

Soooo, now what do you think????

Anyone near Fon Du Lac? Saw this on the Mad City Chickens chat board today(dont know how legit but might be worth checking out):

Fond du Lac Humane Society
652 Triangle Road, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935

[email protected]

"MADOC is going to euthanize a chicken tomorrow at noon because she's taking up space. We need to find someone to take her because it is illegal to keep them at the shelter or any where in Fond du Lac, so someone would have to pick her up right away tomorrow."

So Amy--what do you use the ground cherries for? Are yours the "wild variety" I have a ton growing everywhere and would really like to use them for something!
My six year old says to me this morning "today is the best day of my life."
I reply "why is that."
He says " the best day because Ox is gonna be butchered and won't run at me anymore." then he mumbles under his breathe "I'm too big to cry 'cause of a chicken"
I am nothing but a good mother, a protective mother. If he feels THAT strongly about it, then I'm not going to stop the ax. I am sad about my breeding plans, but still have Blue. I also hated seeing the boy scream In terror as that Roo charged him. Poor kid.
So Ox is no more. Rest in peace big boy.

Hi Everyone!

Aw, Tiki, I'm so sorry to hear. These birdies of mine sure are growing on me. It would hurt to lose even one.

Calling all Chickie Healers!
My Shandy came up gimpy a couple days ago and today she's limping even worse than at the start.
To sadly wit:

Good lord, what can I do?????
Here's a pic... Her hurt leg is the one closer to the viewer in this photo:

I noticed her toes are ramrod straight, except for this one. I've pointed the arrow right at the anomoly. It's seems so slight. But if it's broken, the poor dear is sure feeling it.

What do you think, what can I do for her and Thank You so much for your thoughts!

I don't think its her toes at all, by the looks of it her hip is out or she suffered a back injury by maybe the roo, a dog another mean chicken chasing her, I would take her to the vet if she were mine.... but vet calls are 25 bucks here, not sure about by you......Kim PS separate her from the flock, so she doesn't get picked at and made worse, plenty of fluids and yummies to keep her strength up, scrambled eggs work great.......... also you could try giving her some Devils claw herb for pain and swelling........ cats claw is the same properties and sometimes easier to find....

Good advice Kim (love the new icon BTW) It looks like a hip to me too. I am going over to see the bird tomorrow so we will check her out together and see what we see.
My bumblefooted one got her bandage taken off this morning...not good. I was wondering why she was still on the roost. The swelling was bad again so I reopened it and am letting it stay open for now to see what's up. She did very well for 5 days so I thought it was gone and now we seem to have a re-occurrence. IT is always something...
The horse's swelling seems to be down a bit but there is a puncture wound near the fetlock...going out to cold hose and reapply triple antibiotic in a minute.

Put all the birdies from the basement outside into the barn pen for now...Tommy included. This way they can get used to the weather before it gets cold and wont have to stay in the house ALL winter! I put the bunny out with them too. You would have thought I put a raccoon in there! The chickens used to him were fine and all the other ones were freaking out! It was kinda funny actually....
Anyone looking for baby rabbits? I had a friend ask me if I know anyone needing some; her doe is due to kindle today. All I know is that the doe is black and the buck is a "big white one." Let me know....

Gotta run--Terri O
