Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

mxmarg good luck with your hen~ I can't see the video so no help here. Sounds like you have lots of good help!

No idea on gender Vicki. But very cute.

Mayzee is gone. I just hope it was quick. Thanks everyone for the condolences. She was a real sweety pie. Used to beg for snacks and a real friendly girl. I cleaned off her night stand today.

Good advice Kim (love the new icon BTW)  It looks like a hip to me too.  I am going over to see the bird tomorrow so we will check her out together and see what we see.
My bumblefooted one got her bandage taken off this morning...not good.  I was wondering why she was still on the roost.  The swelling was bad again so I reopened it and am letting it stay open for now to see what's up.  She did very well for 5 days so I thought it was gone and now we seem to have a re-occurrence. IT is always something...
The horse's swelling seems to be down a bit but there is a puncture wound near the fetlock...going out to cold hose and reapply triple antibiotic in a minute.

Put all the birdies from the basement outside into the barn pen for now...Tommy included.  This way they can get used to the weather before it gets cold and wont have to stay in the house ALL winter!  I put the bunny out with them too. You would have thought I put a raccoon in there!  The chickens used to him were fine and all the other ones were freaking out!  It was kinda funny actually....
Anyone looking for baby rabbits?  I had a friend ask me if I know anyone needing some; her doe is due to kindle today.  All I know is that the doe is black and the buck is a "big white one."  Let me know....

Gotta run--Terri O

Terri your chicki with bumble could use a good round of liquid silver natural antibotic, and some Vetricyn... I would also use on the horse as it works much better than antibiotic ointment,
could also use the devils claw for your horse, it worked wonders on my old shadow and his bad knees........

I've missed quite a few pages, but no time to catch up now.

I hope everything is well for all!

I've got too much on my plate at the moment with pageant dress shopping Friday night, an overloaded Saturday (DH & I will be tag teaming to get the kids to soccer & pageant activities), parent/teacher meeting Monday night, the kids starting school Tuesday plus all have soccer practice.....I had to take a breath......I could go on, but I think 5 days is enough to panic about

Chicken #3 (aka Gertie) hasn't laid yet! What is her bag?

Still haven't figured out/solved the problem with the food disappearing. Whenever I get a moment, I need to put up hardware cloth over the cracks to eliminate the possibility of mice as an option for the food disappearance. Also, I had a question. Is it alright to take in the food each night even though the girls are used to having it out there? I don't want them sqawking because they are hungry in the morning.

So sorry to hear that Tiki

My silly red star "No Name" performed quite a feat today that I didn't realize was possible- she flew up on the outside of the egg box, up into the top edge of the open door, up onto the roof of the coop, and then over ft to the top of a 6ft wall. She sat there for about 10 seconds and then jumped off the other side!! I was shocked, but she seemed to love the freedom, lol

Off to the chiropractor tomorrow morning. Wednesday he told me he doesn't think there is much he can do for me yet, and I should see a rheumatologist. H thinks it might be fibromyalgia? I thought I was too young for all of this

Well enough of my pity party!

The kids and I are VERY excited to be picking up two Wheaten Ameracauna hens Sunday. Can't wait!
Hope you are all well- Good Night

Bridezilla strikes again! Our third shift girl is driving everyone nuts! Demanding little snot..... and the wedding is not until next May!

Thanks for identifying the chickies, I hate it that they do not identify breeds. The cows, rabbits, and horses are marked, but not all of the pigs and sheep are, and none of the goats and chickens.... irritating.

Tomorrow is our intern's last day. I will miss him, he has been a hoot. I hope we can have him back next year!

Another day at the grind tomorrow..... and then one more and then the weekend!!!

Hey All,
Sorry I have been MIA, with bills and such, I didn't have enough money to keep the internet up PLUS the main phone...

DH had the day from He (double hockey sticks), a woman called yesterday and threatened one of the ladies in the center, she said she would come there with a gun.
They had just moved to the new digs ( two floors rented from the WI Dept of Revenue).. he told his boss, and he didn't get a chance to listen to the call as he was busy covering for
another supervisor and other team members as it was the ETF employee appreciation day picnic yesterday.
Well after talking to the team member, she said she wasn't sure if the lady meant it or not... well after a while she did think it was a true threat and sent out an email
to my DH's boss, who then proceeding to try to mop the floor with DH....
The funny part was the lady works in the same building for the Dept of Rev.
AND they had no power for 2 hours.
Well I am off to go feed the horses. or as I like to put it, feed things to other things..!!

WHOOT! We have a board member in our corner!!!!!

She was VERY impressed with the volume of information provided and how thorough we have been at presenting our case! The report from the Chief's of Police departments where that have ordinances that allow chickens was MUCH appreciated!

It is a little victory, but I will TAKE IT!!!!

Just winding down here....I made a bunch of "trading cards" for the kids for the birthday party I am doing on Saturday. (the one with the horse rides) I figured I can hand them out as the kids ride the horse...kind of like a reward/keepsake type thing. I hope some of the parents keep scrapbooks for their kids.
I am sorry about Maysee...but what was she? First I thought a chicken, then a cat then she has a nightstand? I am confused or must have missed something somewhere!
Nice to hear from you Carol! I was thinking of you the other day because someone asked me why a bird had a red band on it's leg and I said that the ones that had them were named "Carol" because I got them from you! LOL.

I cannot believe how big the quail are already! only a few days old and they have quadrupled at least!
Well--I guess I oughta get to bed. Cooking tomorrow again...congrats on somebody in your corner BL4! It is nice to have that for sure!

Nighties! Terri O

Thank You She was a chicken but acted more like another dog/cat. She didn't ;like the other chickens so she hung out on the front porch. At night she came in and would stroll around the house, drink some water from the dog bowl, eat any leftover dog food and eventually head towards the bedroom where she had a stand with a towel on it and a couple of small bowls. But if I ate popcorn while watching tv she would come over and beg for some. Every time I go outside I look to the rightt and see the empty space where she used to sit on the railing. She would talk to me but I didnt know what she was saying. She knew "Come on girl" (picked that up from the dog) and "hurry up" and "Mayzee " She was five years old. This is a picture from a couple years ago when she still liked other chickens. One of the sweetest as tiniest chickens Ive ever had the pleasure of knowing ~(modern game bantam) icket"> Wow I hope you don't have fibromyalgia judge :hugs

Hi All!

Bf4m.... I think unless you can keep him confined you may have to do him in.

I know it sucks but the kids have to come first.

CC.... You were tall!

LOL.... I come from a long line of short! My mom was nice and petite but I got my dad's build and mom's short.

The water heater is only 4 years old so it should be good yet... it works now, just grateful for that! As for the herbs...yea, sometimes I'm not sure how people will take herbal advice. And some people look at my health and would think "If herbs are so great and you know so much, why aren't you healthier?" Well, with no insurance, herbs are used allot for day to day stuff and allot of stuff people might use over the counter stuff for. I also do supplement (or even sometimes substitute) herbs for some prescriptions. All in all I think I'm better off with than without! Who knows , I could be dead without them! If you want I could recommend some good books.... I think field trips would be a little rough for us!

TO... I sure hope your DH gets the water fixed soon! (and I'll be nice and NOT mention seat belts!
hide.gif
) at least I only had 3 stairs to relight the water heater and it has an electric spark thing so I didn't have to get down and use a match! I even set up a mirror so I could see the pilot!

Casie... Good luck with the new peeps!

tiki... So SORRY about Mayzee!

She looked and sounds so sweet! Do you have any idea what may have happen? Did you find any feathers? Did you look under everything? I had one that was hurt and hid for 4 days 'till I found her.

viki... cute chick... hope it's a girl!

Amy.... If you could send some seeds I'll pay postage. I think I have a good spot for them since they like sun.

mxm.... It's amazing how well they can heal! The roos have been rough on a few of my girls and I had one with a totally dislocated hip. It just dangled! I reset it as best I could and put her in a cage in the coop with food and water within reach. She basically just sat for about 2 weeks just getting up to potty. She slowly started moving around and I put her in a pen with another injured one for another month.... she's fine now!

cs... can you hang the feeders?

judge... sounds like "no name" had quite an adventure! Sure hope it's not fibromyalgia! Good luck with the new hens!

WCc... WB... hope things get better for DH!

Bl4.... Congrats on the board member!

GR... glad to see someone else is into herbs! When I could walk better I did allot of wildcrafting.

Calendula is another good one for tissue as is horsetail (herb... not hair! LOL) And Echinacea root.

Well, the guinea hen settled the keets down in the garden for the night... it's pretty over grown so she should be safe. I also left the back door open so if Ruddy hears something he can go right out. One of the males stays with her and the keets all day but went to roost with the others at night. I have 4 out of 5 cats and me on my twin bed... I think it's going to be crowded sleeping!

Night all!
