Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ok, a couple of questions for you great chickie folks.

First~Is the molt an ok time to worm the hens and if yes, what wormer do you recommend?

What about the all natural "Wormguard Plus Broad Spectrum for Poultry" you just add to the feed? anyone tried it?

Second question~would it be harmful to the chick if it got into the hen's water if there was ACV in it? I would like to put it back in their water but with the chick running loose. I put their waterer up higher but Noodle is already figuring out how to gain altitude and it is absolutely fearless!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER MY NEWBIE QUESTIONS!

Cassie that is a beautiful coop. Wish mine was more like that. Mine is probably 25 years old.

Vicki- I've never personally used ACV. But good luck with noodle, such a cutie!

I don't post much, but I'm always lurking. I'm getting a horse in the next week or two. It's a weanling buckskin filly. I've been working at horse barns with horses for years, happy to finally get my own. Also getting a mini donkey companion. All my chickens are going alright, though my 5 Phoenix pullets haven't been laying really. They layed 9 eggs for me within the first week I had them, but have only gotten 2 in the past 2 weeks. Ah well.

I put ACV in my chicks' water on purpose. No worries.

Back from the interview, I gave BYC there props and talked WAY too much! I hope I did not say anything that was not accurate....

I DID let the reporter know that I thought the one council members behavior was unprofessional and that she should keep her personal opinions out of her duties as a member of the City Council. Making statements that this is a waste of the council's time and resources just amazes me..... I thought that their job to listen to the people who voted them into office and they were to represent the citizens of the community? Listen to the problems presented and make judgement based on the facts presented....

Allergies have been killer this week..... time to take some drugs.....

Vicki - I've read that the molt is a great time to worm them. They are laying fewer eggs and depending on the wormer you use you can't eat the eggs for a time. So it make sense to do it when they are laying fewer anyway. I use Wazine-17 then follow up with Eprinex pour-on in two weeks. Wazine has a 14 day withdrawl so no eggs for 2 weeks but the Eprinex has no withdrawl so you are good to go then. I came upon this schedule on a post here at BYC and it's very informative!

It's like the comprehensive post on worming! And not just using Piperazine and for bantams, it talks about all the different ways to worm and dosages for all poultry.

HTH!

BL4 - can't wait to read the interview! Will it be posted somewhere online??

My allergies have been crazy the past week here too. One nice thing about winter is not having to deal with that!

Thanks to I believe TO's recommendation I just ordered a Quick Clean Bucket Waterer from Premier 1. Need another one for when the broilers are out of the brooder and this one looks like a good one to try out!
