Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Bigzio: Was it you that said your Lt Brahmas were your favorites? Or who said that? I am wondering if your Lt Brahmas are vocal? I swear I have never had such a lil chatterbox.."Willow" chitter-chatters even when shes eating LOL and she almost twice the size of the other breeds that are the same age.

BBP: Did DH get his elk?

Wow... another real short day for posts!

Guinea hen still has 3 as far as I can tell.
I don't think Tiny is going to make it 'till morning. She's a PR hen and one of my first ones. She's had digestive issues for the last few months. Yesterday she was pretty droopy and today her comb was getting blue and she was raspy. She's very weak.

Those PR's just don't seem to hardy. Guess they were breed to just be used up.

I have 3 cats on the bed...getting crowded!

Hope all is well with everyone!

Night all!

Morning all,
Have not been on the web for quite a long time. Started a job after looking for many months. Grateful, but I ly out each week and return each weekend. I am wasted beyond belief. Still have five chickens. One goes broody all the time. I tried to get a couple of fertized eggs for her to sit on. If you know anyone local, let me know. I live in the Milwaukee/holy Hill area.
Heading out to urgent care soon. Wife has bronchitis and I got something. Woke up Thursday and could hardly walk. Knee was killing me and my thumbs were sore. Now I can hardly walk. Muscles in leg and know killing me, neck, shoulder and foot all aching. Weird.

morning all!

I ordered my new Kindle HD today! think I told you that when hubby found out I was saving up my pennies for a Kindle he said "when I cash in the cd for the end of year bills, I'll give you the money for it, then I'm off the hook for Christmas, right?" I said, "of course!" I had explained that I knew new versions were being released and had figured I would have enough by the time they came out. Anyway, he gave me enough to get the new 7" HD and I kicked in what I had saved and I was able to get the 8.9!

(another happy dance) They won't ship till around 11/20 so it really will be a Christmas present so now I have to wait!!!

Think I asked this before but here goes again. Does anyone know of anyone in WI or MN that has a breeding pair of Hedemora chickens? I stumbled across these when I was researching the Swedish Flowers. I am really looking forward in the spring to start my own breeding flock of them. I am thinking by the time I am established the APA will be recognizing them. I know the start-up is going to be a bit pricey (Greenfire is the only one with an established flock with genetic diversity right now outside Sweden that I can locate) but I figure that I should be able to sell enough eggs/chicks to recoup my initial costs and maybe break even on the upkeep. Profit would be nice but I am a realist, is there such a thing as a profit when it comes to small flocks???? I guess I may have my best shot if I turn out to be the first in WI after all. I love my Black Star breakfast makers and my "broody butt" and they have a guaranteed "retirement" home, but I want a unique flock as well that just might cover the cost of all my girls. Now, I better get started on the new coop before the I run into s__w

Today its more salsa, picking the last paste toms and ripping out the plants. Then deciding what else I am going to save and what is going because we are going to for sure frost tonight. Oh well, it's time. Probably only save the squash and the greenhouse stuff. Then I have to figure out a way to separate my hen Soup for a while. Don't know if it's she's finally starting to molt or what but she is REALLY starting to go after everybody

, not just pulling feathers out of their butts, now she is bullying momma every time she clucks to let the chick know she's found something and grabs Stirfry and little Crockpot by the back of the neck and her attitude seems to be passing on to everyone else, passing down the pecking order. Problem is now she is beginning to target the chick and others are getting more hostile! Got to give this bratty hen a time out!

well time to go let everyone outside. Have a great day all!

Good Chilly Damp Morning Everyone! Vic think that hen needs more than a time out. Wow Dooner think you better get to the Dr. sounds pretty weird! Cind I'm not raising anymore PR's just like CC. They lay like the dickens but are short lived. I have one left out of the original 10 and I don't think she's ever layed. Cleaned the coop and added new straw yesterday. I filled the nest boxes first because it was laying time. I had 4 different hens picking out their new box as I went, couldn't stop laughing as they went from box to box "B"ing at each other as if to be saying HEY this is the box I wanted get out you POS. Went back in after an hour and not one single egg.

Silly birds! Could fire up the wood stove to get the dampness out but I cleaned it yesterday so can't get it dirty.

Besides it's gonna warm up. Going to write the company and see what they say about the creosote running down and sealing the ash door. I've had to pry it open. They have a a spinner on the wood door but not on the ash door don't think it gets enough draft to keep that from happening. I know their going to tell me that the wood is too wet. Thinking of adding a spinner to the ash door. Going to add some red peppers to the freezer today. Laura's doing the dishes for the first time since her operation.

I hate doing dishes. Have a practically brand new dish washer that never gets used due to having holding tanks. Should just get rid of it. It's going to be a rough afternoon. Drag racing from the rain out at Indy last weekend and Packers. They're going to overlap.

Morning all!
The critters are all and happy do I must be doing something right! Went to the chicken show down in Belvidere Ill. I think there were almost as many sale birds as there were show birds! Nice show though. I did see some Ameracauna's. Hen and a rooster. Both rumpless, muffed and black a night. Very nice birds.
There were a ton of ducks an geese for sale. I've never seen that many at a poultry show. Had to keep my paws of some Cuyugas. I think there were also some Calls that were the color the Cuyugas are. Very very pretty.

Well, the meatie are getting rather loud so I best get them fed.

Later

WEll one more week before my broody hatches some babies. At least three of the six eggs look viable and maybe four.
Getting hooked on bantam birds which is not helping my egg sales. Only have a few large fowl birds left and my older bird is molting again and the other one things broody is a way of life. If anyone coming to the mini bash has a kind and gentle young production type bird they are willing to let go, might trade or buy off you...

Otherwise the kids have two birthday parties today and I might finish up my pickle making.need to find time to clean the house sometime too

Lazy laundry day here. It is so nice to wake up in the morning and have the purring fluffballs surrounding you.

Oldest DD has her driving test tomorrow... everyone off the roads!

Have to find my DD's SS card, she managed to finally land a job! She will now be working at the local Culvers (if I can find that SS card........) I guess part of my day will be spent ripping the house to shreds searching the card out. With as many times as we have moved things around, I think it might be in the basement.

My tomatoes are still going strong so I think I will let them be for now...... I need more yellow ones to ripen!

Everyone enjoy your day!

Good Morning all!

Dooner, Thank goodness for Sunday Urgent care, hey? Good Luck!

Ben came home from business San Fran and got a bug on the plane. Like a good family who shares everything, now we're all enjoying with it. I've got a box of rocks for a brain presently. Yerg.

My Shandy chickie is still hobbling. She's been inside a big doggie crate placed inside the chicken enclosure. I'm seeking a vet for her. Any suggestions, neighbors in the Lake Mills area? Not enough people take their chickens seriously enough for most vets to bother learning to heal them!

BabyLady we're still enjoying your lavender soap so much! Girlfriend, do yourself a favor and get a fireproof lockbox from Target or Wally world! Put those birth certificates and social security cards in there to live! I've also got the irreplaceable engagement ring from my Grammie in there!

My hubs and I both have a key on our keyrings for ours and it's sooooooo nice to know right where those things are.
