Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all!... Yes, I'm going to try posting a couple of times rather tan wait until I'm too tired at bed time.

DrH...Maybe you and L need a movie night so she can learn who Butch and Sundance are. We have flea issues too. I'll give the kids a bath before you take them but you'll have to keep an eye out for them. It's hard with kittens because there isn't much you can treat them with.

TO... Glad to hear Commander is OK. I bet he is sore too. Both of you should take it easy for a while! ( I know, fat chance...lol)

Yep, some hunters shouldn't be allowed near the woods! I lost a horse to a hunter, must be 45 or so years ago (gads I sound old!) It was at my uncles and the horse was in the winter pasture near the barn. My uncle was just getting ready to go do chores (at day break) and heard the shot. He got out there asap and found him shot right in the jugular! Never found out who did it! My uncle had NO HUNTING signs all over the place and it happen about 100 feet from the barn! JACKASSES!!!

I also hate people who waste a kill. If you don't want it... give it to someone who dose!

OK.... BBL

Down here the poachers cut out the back straps and tenderloins and throw the carvasses in the ditch just outside of town.

I would love to have these people caught and have their addresses posted in the paper so anyone can throw garbage in their yard forever.

on a lighter note

Thanks for all the help with the cider vinegar everyone

Quote:
  • Good German Leg of Lamb

  • 3-½ pounds Boneless Leg Of Lamb
  • ¼ cups Red Wine Vinegar
  • 1 head Head Of Garlic (large Cloves Cut Into Thinner Pieces)
  • ⅓ cups Yellow Mustard (German Preferably, But Anything In Your Fridge Will Work)
  • 3 sprigs Rosemary (leaves Picked Off The Woody Stem)
  • 2 sprigs Mint (leaves Picked Off The Stem)
  • 5 sprigs Thyme (left On The Stem If It Is Not Too Woody)
  • 1 cup Fresh Breadcrumbs
  • ½ cups Riesling
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste

Forgot the directions.

1. Rub the leg of lamb down with the red wine vinegar.
2. Using a paring knife, make incisions over the surface of the lamb (evenly distributed) that are deep enough to fit a garlic clove. Fill the holes with garlic.
3. Season on all sides with salt and pepper.
4. Chop up the herbs and mix them with the mustard (I tossed them all in a mini food processor).
5. Slather the mustard mixture all over the lamb and marinate for 5 hours (you could probably leave it overnight if needed).
6. Preheat oven to 375F.
7. Place the marinated lamb in a roasting pan (we placed ours on top of a bed of carrots) and top with bread crumbs (don’t worry about being neat with it and don’t worry if some have fallen to the bottom of the pan).
8. Place in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes at 375F. When the breadcrumbs start to darken, turn the oven down to 350F and cook until it reaches an internal temperature of 150F (medium rare).
9. Remove the lamb and any veggies from the pan and set aside to rest. Place the roasting pan over medium heat and add the Riesling and 1 cup of the broth. Cook, scraping up all of the bits from the bottom of the pan. If there is not enough liquid, add more chicken broth, reserving a few tablespoons.
10. Mix the remaining few tablespoons of the chicken broth with the corn starch to form a slurry. Add the slurry to the pan when the broth and drippings have started to boil. Stir, letting the mixture come to a boil.
11. Adjust the consistency of the gravy by either adding more broth (to thin it out) or more slurry (to thicken it).
12. Slice the lamb and serve with the gravy on the side (any of the breadcrumb topping that may have fallen off when slicing can always be added into the gravy).

YUM! Thanks for the recipe Delish! (I am sure I will be DELISH! LOL) I have 2 half legs in my package and I will try one with your recipe. Tonight I did the chops with fresh rosemary and S&P. I served them with squash, rosemary roasted reds and beans. OMG it was fantastic! All I can say is that my ewes better have some surviving lambs this spring!

SO I went back to work tonight to put my lady to bed...her company was still there. Some of her grandchildren and a daughter in law...they seemed very nice. Glad I am home now. COmmander wanted to come into the barn again tonight! I think he enjoyed the "spoiling" he got last night and this morning. He is continuing to do well. The first thing he did when I took off his blanket was to roll on both sides...tomorrow I am going to start on his tail...YUK!

Well, I better be off to bed, back to work early tomorrow--I cant wait until Friday...paycheck! Yeah!

Good night all and have great dreams too! TerriOheadingupshortlytosnugglein

Evening all. First, we, (ME) have two rules if you want to hunt on our land whether you are friend OR family. "If you ain't gonna eat it you better not shoot it" and "if you shot it, get your butt out into the woods and find it". Ok, three rules, if you want to ever come back here "you BETTER not shoot a bambi!!!" One more thing to think about. Wisconsin law requires that during gun deer season, while you are actively hunting you are required to wear clothing that is at least 50% blaze orange from the waist up, including your hat, right? HOWEVER, it is NOT required that you be actually able to see the blaze orange to get a valid gun hunting license. In other words, you can be totally color blind and still legally gun hunt. Makes sense to me, how about you????

Terri, lamb is good enough with some Lawrys season salt on it. I like Delish's recipe too though. Garlic is good for anything, but beef and lamb just mingle so well with it..... glad your horse is doing much better too.

Man am I tired..... I tried doing the back-stroke and the breast-stroke tonight...... 45 min back and forth, back and forth........ I never get the timing down right on the breast-stroke, I can't get the kick done correctly and get my arms right at the same time..... too many directions for my brain to compute at once.

I guess they caught all the cows! All the highway signs were turned off tonight when I came home.

I have been assigned to make for Thanksgiving at my mom's house; cherry pies, rainbow jello, and rolls. Now I need to find out what my in-laws would like me to make........

Passing out here....... I better log off.

TTFN!

I am too tired to post much tonight. I can't believe how tired I've been feeling since the time change.

The sickly Moosette has been steadily improving slowly. Her color is back to normal, as is her poo and appetite. I am debating on whether or not to take her back out to the coop. That one bloody stool really had me worried, but that was the only bloody one that I could find. I ordered some Sulmet but I haven't gotten it yet.

So far she has just been on vitamins & electros. What do you think?

I'm Back! lol

CC... to me that poo looks fine. Vitamins have a tendency to make poo a bit darker and runny so it's probably fine. Just keep an eye on her.

JJ... I've heard about other hunters finding deer like that too. Just take the good stuff and leave the rest to rot or attract 'yotes and other scavengers.

TO... Glad Commander is no worse the wear. Hummm.... got me wanting lamb now!

DrH.... Have you told L that the song "Rain Drops" comes from the movie?

The Rooster Noodle soup turned out real good.... best thing that rooster ever did! LOL Tonight we had pork chops with mushroom gravy!

Have to try to get that building permit tomorrow.... one bad thing about living in a small township .... all the "government" people are part time with real short hours.... if they are there at all.

Guess that's it for now... might stop by later.
