Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

You can purchase day old sexed. That breed the roos have no stripes at hatch (I think) Any way you can purchase just hens.(The are $50 this year.) My Grandson is playing State Championship Football today so I am headed up to Madison.
BTW that breed is beautiful! I am not crzt about the small size, however they love the snow and cold!

I have been breeding Cornish farm chickens since my daughter was born..she is 35. I still have the original strain running through my birds. I have picked up a few hens here and there and crossed them into my birds. They are farm chickens.. I have no idea if anyone is interested but I usually have some pretty good hardy laying chickens around for sale.(I have 3 POLs right now) I have never ever given them an antibiotic or wormed them in 35 years. I have yet to see worms in any of my butchering or have them die of some mysterious malady. I treat them with wood ash, pumpkin, Fermented Feed and garlic. They free range and I have lost some to coyotes, possums, coons, hawks. But never while they were out. It has usually happened was while they were inside roosting and I was gone out for the night with the door wide open.

As for the roo, he's an expensive one, and that's where my knowledge on him ends.

I have a hard time buying into the fact that these flat bladed birds are that good in cold weather,,,,Greenfire has imported some rare and exotic birds to the US,,,about the only good thing I will say about them.,,,,,thier prices quickly recover the costs of the importing.

I'll try to post a pic later of a purty rooster that is a real cheesehead

I agree with you there Dan! Sheila I thought that bird looked like a Blue Copper Marans too. The one you pictured doesnt have the feathered feet like that one at Greenfire. Vicki--if you just like the look, get some that look like them and call them what you want! Some of those expensive birds seem to be just that...something to say you have but they are really just like any other chicken AND those combs sure wouldnt stay that way here...self dubbing from Mr Frostbite for sure!

SO, just got back from town...a guy stopped here and bought 5 dozen eggs

and I had to go out and get more for my customers in town! That is a GOOD thing! It is gorgeous here and now I am headed out to see if I can get some of the quagmire mud off of my horse and his saddle...this will probably take me all afternoon! I am glad it is supposed to be pleasant this weekend...good to get the rest of the weatherstripping done and put up Christmas decos...I am going to put lights and garland down my pasture fence this year! If I ever fine my camera I will share a pic of that and also the cat I found...got two hits from CL about him but unless he hitchhiked from Madison I doubt he is theirs! (DD26 is already making noises about keeping him)

He got out of the cage I had him in (the chickens never did but it wasnt cat-tight I guess) and I said oh kitty, are you in there? and he came down from the ceiling hole! I guess he is comfy here....

OK gotta go and scrape mud! Later all! TerriOgladthesunisshining

Yeah I saw the feathered feet. But when I first found it i thought it was the same bird. I think i would go with the maran over that $50 day old bird any day!
