I seriously think Doc needs one of those round thingies. They have a ball on that thing! But kittens are good at that, aren't they? They will have the best time with an empty paper bag & a ball of paper.
Pretty roo, Dan.
Sorry about Adam's reassignment & schedule, Ghost.
Nothing new here. Sweet dreams, all!

Wow beautiful roosters1
Cindlady- thought I'd let you know how much we love the one you gave us. My DS9 named him Colt, and he so nice. Actually I think he is afraid of us. Whenever we get near him he runs away, and even when the kids corner him and try to catch him he doesn't fight. Our other one would come at us like a ninja just out of nowhere. He especially likes to perch on the peak of the chicken coop. Such a pretty sight in the morning

Getting up early to meet my Dad, brother and nephew and heading to the woods. Wish me luck!

good morning all,

terriO thanks for the kitty cam. I checked it twice already, LOL i have no life.
ghostrider, Sorry about Adam. Hopefully once he gets his truck all will be well

I got my first 2013 hatchery catalog from Meyer's. Doubt I will order from them but I love looking at all the catalogs.
have a good day, gotta do the weekly cleaning of the coop and then do shopping. I am so glad it is still nice out. Makes winter that much shorter.
David

Good Foggy Opening Morning All! Very cool lookin roo Dan! Should make pretty babies. TO thinkin you have a new addition.

GR your going to have to get used to Adam being gone that's the way over the road trucking is. He could be gone for a month or more at a time. Dave that's good perusing material for bathroom. Have several myself. judge those frizzle/polish chickens always make chuckle. Silly lookin birds! CC didn't look at the vid but I'm pretty sure we don't need it.

"Moldy" was a pun. Peatwo has learned that when I'm coming up from behind him it's time for meds, he won't let me get within 3 feet of him now. Have to corner him in the coop.

, well opening day has started here- heard 4 shots already-not sure if anything was gotten.

Survived the night- have 5 extra girls here for a sleepover- DD's 13th birthday is Nov 21st so this is her friends party, extended family party is next sat- that should be interesting......... so question for those of you who have kids that are older- what age did you stop having extended family b-day parties?

going to take advantage of the nice weather and get some outside chores done.

Just had 3 does walk through our backyard- very cool

..good A<M , around here we have a cake for anyone having a birthday.. age doesn't matter.. No gifts are given, but anyone can show up,, or not.. If Annie is home, and not working, there is usually a meal attached.. the only way we can get company is to bribe them with food..

I made a kettle of chili yesterday.. ate too much and had heartburn all night,,
great stuff...

today I might finally get around to making new side racks for the small trailer.. need to make them a bit taller than the old ones were so I can haul bales of hay easier..

sounds like Annie just walked in.. No do-nuts today,, I guess I will make some eggs Benedict...

Yeah, David, the winter might be shorter, but it might be nastier..
I heard that we are supposed to get extra snow .. ??

Quote: Hedemora's.They are very beautiful chickens. The chick females are $50. The cockerel chicks are $20. Way to small for a big investment. They weigh out at round 3lbs at time of butchering. Comb size has nothing to do with frost bite. Humidity does. We live in a humid state so combs tend to freeze, no matter the size. If the coops are dry with little to no moisture, combs do not freeze. I deep litter in Winter, I never feed or water inside. I have a large ventilation Coppola on top and vents on each side. I also have windows that I can open on all sides to keep it ventilated. I also have a large sunroof on the west side. I have had part frozen combs when I watered and fed inside the coop. Wisconsin has so much humidity it is a problem. Since I changed my winter watering and feeding program I have done so much better. I used to think the chickens needed a tight building to survive the cold winters. I was wrong.

Hello everyone,

Just popping on to say hi, nothing amazing to report.

Summer took its toll on my flock, wiped out the entire set of Ameraucanas during one particularly blazing hot day. I lost 2/3 the flock on that day, despite extra water, fans, and shade preparations. However, my Iowa Blues acted like nothing was wrong, bless their little hardy hearts. I've got the IB flock along with a couple of the lavender banty Ameraucanas still around a couple silkies and a couple EEs now. Have got a dozen IB hatchlings growing out this winter and likely will hatch some more out if I get eggs following the current molt.

The boys are growing fast and are doing great. The Aussies likewise.

Hope to get time to be on here more as we hit winter and things slow down a bit for me. :)

Hi Hurley
frow.gif
neat pics. Sorry to hear about your summer losses.
Delisha~ we don't have the humidity problem as much up here away from the Big Water. Oh, and thanks for the additional info on the Hedemoras. Didn't realize they were that small.
TO~my main attraction to the Hedemora is they are a landraced breed that is proported to be the most cold hardy chooks in the world due to the true double layer of feathers and will continue to lay and play happily in the snow down to near 0 temps with no problems. since we can have some pretty extreme weather up here I thought they would fit right in. I am not as fortunate (or as obsessed?) as FT to have a barn and an abundance of critters to help keep my girls warm so I find their hardiness extremely attractive. With that said, after hearing what Unkadan (aka the newest enabler) has, and seeing that gorgeous roo, I have totally been enabled!!!

Unkadan~That Roo is gorgeous!!!! You must be willing to share (your price is a bit better than $50 per, right?

Well, we have one hit and one miss so far. Pa is outside hanging a nice 2 yr old spiker one of the boys got and is giving to us.
celebrate.gif
Nice little deer. He will taste really yummy. Our freezer was completely empty of venison and how can you have stew on a cold winter evening w/o venison??? The miss was one of the grandsons. Dad spent quite a while looking but all eh could find was some white hair so maybe the kid (19 yr old) just nicked a tail or something
fl.gif
. I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS
smack.gif

Well now it's time to check on the bird in the oven and get going on the rest of the feast. Thanks again everyone for all your wisdom about the chooks

Two tags filled here so far! Both the kids shot bucks! DD#1 shot a nice 6 pointer that should have been at least an 8, he was missing half an antler. DS#1 shot a 4 pointer. This is the first deer for my DD, the second for my DS. Now all we need is for DH to get one..... but he rarely gets skunked so I have no doubt he will get one.

Ready to take a nap! Work was so boring!!!!!!! The foggy drive in was not fun either.....

My cousin is planning a surprise birthday party for my Uncle. It is a 50's-60's themed party and we are encouraged to dress according to the theme...... so I have been looking at the fashions from that time period. We ladies sure have grown in the waist! Perhaps we should go back to wearing girdles 24/7!!!! All the dresses have such TINY waists, like 25-29 inches! A size 10 then would be a size 6 now...... I hope I find something...... the timing of this was really bad; Goodwill has put ALL of the Halloween stuff away so it will be hit or miss at the thrift shops.

Ok, time to veg out before I head over to the in-laws.

Enjoy the day and good luck hunters!
