Anyone want to come build me a new chicken coop?
I have the "Chicken Disease" too!
My aunt is looking at her old 12'x12' chainlink dog kennel today to see how hard it's going to be to disassemble and bring it over here for me - her husband says no more dogs, so I get the kennel!
It's split into 2 separate sections, so I'll have two new runs, but now I have to get the coops built. I have the plans all sketched up - I even made an extra little area for a broody "box".
The new Cochins are settling in nicely - I love that rooster, he's so gentle! Except one of my little Columbian cockerels is very offended by the new addition - he stands there, all puffed up, looking at him all day. He tries to crow too, but he still sounds like a frog being strangled or something.
Here's two quick pictures of the new guys:
And the Call ducklings and two Indian Runners out swimming the other day....after all my theorizing about the color of those Calls, I think they're just mis-marked Blue Bibbeds after all. I think the brown penciling on the chest-feathers that made me think they were Blue Fawn is just from lots of iron in our water here (fun fact - the color "Blue" in ducks is highly affected by iron levels in the body - lots of iron = lots of brown coloring on the feathers)...you can see the pretty Apricot color coming in on the biggest Runner's chest:
BTW - amyable, did Julie ever get a D'Uccle pullet? I was trying to get a pair of Bantam Brahmas from someone just 20 minutes away from me (I haven't heard back from her though), and she had a D'Uccle pullet too. If I ever hear back from her, I'll get the D'Uccle pullet too - if Julie doesn't need it, I always have room!
