Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

DrH.... Glad Tazz is taking an interest with the kids! Guess she figures they won't eat her after all!

Judge.... Best wishes for your nephew! That sounds like a very bad place to break.... hope he recovers well. My oldest son had a leg shortened ( we got him leveled

) and the took an 1 1/2" piece from the femur then put a rod in. They said it would be a 6 mo. recovery .... he did it in 3! He was walking before we had a chance to get rails up and such that they said he would need. If your nephew is half as stubborn and determine he should do just fine!

Jim... when you make the sauce for your egg foo yong.... try some oriental 5 spice.

Guess that's it.... Night All!

Morning All! Chickens don't like the snow only 2 eggs yesterday. Haven't read the posts yet. Waiting for a phone call Mom wasn't expected to make it through the night. Don't think Dad will be far behind.

Mazo- D'uccle are great birds ( and we will have some eggs/chicks come spring) the only hard thing with them is if they are out in the elements they have a hard time with wind. I sent mine to carols barn for the winter because they need a little more protection or get colds in their eyes really easily. Had a problem with one bird and talked to some people on the d'uccle page and they said it is common with cold winds. Mine are either inside in coop or out in elements...

So my speckled sussex trio are home with me and adjusting. Such pretty birds and fairly nice too.

Had ornament day yesterday with my kindergarteners... such fun. they made 12 ornaments and decorated cookies in 2.5 hours. Almost 90 kids... lets say whirlwind! But oh so cute. They keep trusting me with that glue gun at school but boy do I burn my fingers everytime!

Caroling with girl scouts tomorrow and wrestling tonight...Holiday work party on Saturday...Busy week again. Need to buy some gift cards and be done with Christmas.
Hope everyone stays warm today, it is chilly

Hello everyone,

Well i was thinking about getting my DD some bantams for christmas. I like the Mille Fluer D'uccle. I am wondering what the difference between the D'uccle and the Cochin are?

Or do you all have a suggestion for a sweet bantam breed?

One other variable is I am thinking about slowly changing my coop to an all wyandotte coop, so the thought of bantam wyandottes is also an option for my mini me!

Joe
My daughter bought some Mill Fluer D'uccle for my grand daughter to eventually take for 4-H. They are sooooo sweet and pretty. I love them. They don't look too small until you get them next to a regular sized hen and then Wow!. The rooster crows so cute (don't tell him that!)

good morning.. DrH,, best wishes for Mom and Dad..

I do not make the sauce for the foo yong.. I love it, but I don't think it would go well on my diet..

I wish there was some way that I didn't have to put the loader back onto Ollie.. Then I remembered,, I need it to lift the dog house off the trailer..

and prolly we will be getting more snow so the back blade won't be effective all winter..

I am going to experiment with the foo yong.. maybe add some fish sauce or soy sauce directly to the eggs.. ??

TerriO.. Annie bought a jar of the red curry sauce .. she ordered it 2 years ago from a friend and it came just this week.. must have been on a slow boat from China..

Judge, your nephew was double lucky.. if that bone had severed that artery in the thigh, he would not have had time to dial the phone.. My Dad's distant cousin got shot in the thigh with a .22 and he didn't even make it to the house from across the yard.. he was 17..

I think I should stay awake today.. I didn't wait for the coffee to finish perking before I grabbed a cuppa from the first part brewed.. really strong when you do that..

.......jimwhoisawake..........

JIm~watch the soy sauce. LOADED with salt. They do make a lower sodium version, still high but not as bad.

anyone know more than I do (which is practically zilch) about Amaracuanas? Anyone have them? Size, temperment, egg size, good layers, cold hardy, etc.?????
Thanks in advance for any info you might share.

I know about the salt in soy.. but we have the low sodium type,, and I am talking about just a few drops for flavor. I don't salt anything otherwise.. so a little is ok..

I hatched hundreds of Americaunas' blue eggs.. the eggs are nothing to brag about for size..
I was never impressed about the size of the hens either.. I never kept any roosters so I can't say about that aspect.. I always thought that they were a bit harder to tame down.. although in my big flock setting I don't handle each chicken daily.. but compared to the rest of the chickens, they were more aloof.. they didn't seem to mind the cold,, but their egg production is not good during the winter..

others might have a different opinion.. but environment has much to do with the outcome..

I will not mess with them anymore.. they just do not fit my criteria, that's all..

I really have to get this chimney soot/cement dust out of the house! Every surface is covered with it. Kinda like when you do drywall and it seeps into everything! I know lots of you have experience with that headache.

Best wishes for your parents DrH. Difficult at any time but especially near a holiday. Always seems a bigger reminder somehow. Hugs to you and L.

Jim the recipe that I have used had peapods, carrots, garlic, shrimp, egg, salt and pepper for the patties. I think the sauce would not be too bad on your diet either. It is chicken broth, soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, cornstarch and water. If you want the whole recipe shoot me a PM and I can get it to you. Now I am hungry for chinese food! I might just give my duck, duck, soup a chinese spin tonight. I will have to see if I can figure out a way to make GF wonton wrappers. I do love them in a soup! I might not be able to clean now...(thanks Jim) because I will be perusing all of the cookbooks that I havent looked at for a long time! See, it's really easy to talk me out of cleaning!

CC I home Ramses starts eating better soon. I have dealt with CRF in several cats and that is not a good sign. There was something I gave my last one that had it...I think phosphorous? It was supposed to lessen the amout of bile produced or something. THere is a great web group that I joined with yahoo. "Tanya's Feline Support" or something like that. See if you can find it--the people were very helpful!

I just heard the saddest thing on the radio. There is a cat named Stanley at Jefferson Humane Society that wants a home for Christmas. He is FIFTEEN! How can someone get rid of a cat that age? He is declawed too. (in case anyone is looking....)

OK--I have to at least get the laundry going in the right direction! Later friends! TerriOfeelingbehindcausesheis!

(PS) beautiful pics Judge!

Hey Vicki--I have some of Jim's Ameraucanas...not thrilled with egg production either. I have 5 hens and they lay 1 egg each day now after the molt. I am pretty sure only one is doing the laying too! Mine are in a separate flock than the rest of my birds because I thought I wanted to have the eggs to hatch. Probably wont bother with it either. Mine are blue Ams and the roos are gorgeous but the hens are not feathered well. I will try to get a pic today. THey seem to love being out in the snow and are very personable. Follow me around the yard and "help" with

gardening etc. They also like to come up on the porch and look in the door!

WOW! Am I ever glad MXM helped me get that porch clean! I hardly can remember it looking that bad! Maybe I oughta print this pic and post it at the door to keep me from cluttering it up again? LOL!
OK--now I really gotta run....TerriO
