Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Jim, go get a hot cup of coffee already.

I think the snow queen, MLH, has the pheasant. Buzzy? And perhaps H&R too. I think they had to replace one because one escaped & they never caught it?

Judge, I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew, but you are exactly right. He has no idea how much worse it could have been. His injuries could have been permanent. Hugs & prayers for him.

DD, whereabouts in Oconto Co. are you?

Thanks, yeah we were thinking of doing pretty much a run with netting over it and some things scattered through it for cover, brush, hay, wooden crates. I have heard you want to make feedings as short as possible as they aren't the nicest birds lol Though my rooster has started pecking at my shoes whenever I go in to feed them lately, I'm sure it's pretty harmless compared to what an aggressive bird could do.
I'm southern Oconto Co., very near Brown and Shawano counties. I know there are farmers who release pheasants around here (we do get them running around in our yard during the fall actually lol) just not sure who it is. My daughter is in 4H, I should probably ask at the next meeting if anyone knows.

Good morning folks! I read everything and then went to begin my "deboning" of the ducks I roasted yesterday...came back cause they were too hot still and then I get to read JIm's "PH" saga!

Hit my phunny bone phor sure! (thanks!)

Yes MLH and H&R both have pheasant(s). MLH can get you some good info too because her DH is "IN" with the folks that train dogs on birds. I have yet to talk to him about getting into that business with my quail...someday.

Prayers to your nephew Judge. That is a scary one for sure. Broke my femurs and had rods put in too...long recovery when it's both for sure. I hope he has the breaks all in one leg. Perhaps he will respect those hills now too...good wake up call when you're still alive to wake up! Hugs to you guys and his family too.

28 out on the porch...seems warmer cause the sun is shining. I guess I'd better get dressed and go outside...started the birds on fermented food yesterday...for the ones that werent used to it I left their dry stuff too...might just do one or two coops...I will have to see how it pans out in the cold. Might be too hard for the winter months...but I suppose that is when they need it the most. Always a catch 22.

I think if I watched the game the Pack would lose...so I dont!

IT is bad enough listening to all the armchair quarterbacks in my LR while I am upstairs trying to read...no sense being in the same room with them! LOL!
Later--have a great day! TerriOwithmuchtogetaccomplishedonthisday

Good morning! Long time again. I hate to always pop in with questions but that is usually all I have time for!
Has anyone raised pheasants? We want to raise some for dog training, I can't seem to figure out where to look to find out if you need a permit for that? I am thinking we will do 30 if numbers matter at all. Oconto County if that matters,
My husband raised about that many for dog training last year. Go to the WI DNR site for the information. I think he got a permit at the local DNR office and it cost something like $25 or so. You get the permit that you have to display on your property and you get orange leg bands that you have to put on each pheasant when you take them out to the field. We raised them in a large dog pen with netting on the top and sides and had corn stocks, pallets, etc in there for cover. We got them in the Spring and by late summer they were all "used". Some of them, of course, were let go for the dogs to find and we saw at least a few hens and a couple roosters around all fall and last winter. Sometimes they would come into the yard and mingle with the chickens in the morning. Was weird looking out and seeing them in the yard!

It is interesting feeding them. They are EXTREMELY flighty in the pen and you don't want to be in there too long because if they fly against the side of the pen, they could injure or kill themselves.

Good luck with them.

Hey Deli--was that 7 mile fair that I saw near your place when we got on I94/43? There was a huge building with 10,000 cars parked around it near 7 mile road. Is that the indoor location? TOjustwonderingagain
That is the one! Great place to buy stuff and sell stuff. Tons of people go threw 7 mile fair every weekend. It is very reasonable to set up a station.

Good morning!!

Working from home today-School closed and well over a foot of snow here. Chickens can't figure out what all the white stuff is. So my DD13 went out and created paths thruout the run-and the walls are over the heads of the hens. She then sprinkled scratch along the trail. A couple (all of which went thru a winter last year) have ventured out for a couple minutes for a treat but thats about it. Glad they have roomy inside quarters to hang out in. Sure wish my hens would be done with their molting!!!

good early PM, I went and put the back blade on Ollie,, then I back blade plowed the driveway.. Ollie has plenty of snort.. I ran at about half throttle.. without the padded cushion on the seat, my but got cold.. as a result I got chilled pretty much all over.. but I still had fun..

came in and made some egg foo yong,, well, at least my version of it.. one golf ball sized onion, a section of green pepper, a few tablespoons of bean sprouts and some chopped mushrooms..
I should look up a real recipe for it.. It must need some sort of spices besides salt and pepper..
TerriO, you eat lots of eggs, you must have some clues for me.. ??

I tried to take a nap.. phone rang 5 times is less than a half an hour.. that is why I came on here.. nobody will let me sleep.. gramma and the dogs are all napping,, but they don't have to answer the phone,,,

diet is going good,, last night I popped a bag of micro popcorn, and couldn't eat even half of it.. stomach must be shrinking.. that is a good thing..

hope the nephew is not feeling too poorly today,, but I know that the pain will be with him for a few days more.. I never broke a bone, only cracked a couple of ribs.. don't want to do that again..

I am thinking real hard how to mount the pump on Ollie without doing it outside It is quite a complicated job..
