Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

MERRY DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! It was -7 when I got up, now it's up to a balmy -5. So cold in the coop the girls water froze even with the heater on. They seemed happy tho and even happier when I took them a big bowl of sweetcorn left over from Christmas dinner.

DrH~a little prayer for you and the mrs. Not a great way to spend Christmas for sure but thankfully she is still with you!

A VERY BIG WISH THAT ALL OF YOU HAVE A VERY BLESSED WEEK AND A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!!!!!

now, I am going to curl up in my LazyBoy with my new Kindle and read a good book.

Merry After Christmas everyone!
Hope all who are going to the After Christmas Shopping places have fun, get good deals and stay safe in all that madness!!
Everyone is great here. The Dogs got knuckle bones via Santa. Santa knows better then to get those since he gets lectured about the dog fights they cause. However, Santa ignored the lecture and the dogs did great with them. They all found a spot to chew the day away and were absolutely exhausted by the end of the day from all that chewing. I don't think Emmitt left the bed all day except to eat dinner and run outside. He was very crankie at bed time because he did not nap for want of chewing his bone....silly dog....

The Cats got cat treats however only one really cared. Ichabod is a treat-a-holic.

Other then that it was a nice quiet day and I cooked a turkey breast in the crock pot, some smashed potatoes with gravy and the green bean cassarole.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas

DrH-TTT! Love it!! I guess we just raise hooligans don't we! I will send you and L prayers and please tell L I hope she has a speedy recovery.

TO-That breakfast looked yummy!

Well, best get to doing laundry.....
Cheers!

Morning!

DrH, hoping to hear L is doing better today and able to come back home!

We have our lights on a timer here, come on around 3:00 am and stay on until 4:00 pm. A couple of the new hens have started laying now too! I'm getting 7 eggs a day now from 12 hens. Still waiting on my SFH, BW Ameracauna, and Wheaten Marans to give me their first eggs. They are all 22 weeks or so old now. We haven't put the lights on in their coop quite as long though.

My eggs that are cooking for the NYD hatch along are looking good. Well most of them are. I had eggs shipped from 3 different people. Out of 8 Jaerhon's 4 are still looking good, 5 out of 8 BBS Orpingtons are still going too. But the 14 Partridge Penendeseca eggs are a bust. Two were cracked on delivery and I pulled one stinker. The other 11 are all clear. Very disappointing for how much I paid for these. The other eggs I got through swaps here and were shipped/packed very well. The PP eggs I ordered through My Pet Chicken who contracts out with Gabbard farms for these. Won't be ordering from them again!

I would not be so passive about the clear eggs.. I would at least let them know that I was not at all pleased with the cracked eggs upon delivery and all the clears.. even if I didn't demand a refund.. Let them know that you will never order from them again, and that you will tell everybody you can about their inferior product...

Either they know that they don't have a rooster,,, OR,,, they don't know that the rooster is shooting blanks.. If it is the first, then don't expect anything good to come of it.. If it is the latter, maybe they will take it upon themselves to attempt to correct their error..

Quote: DrH..Sorry to hear about L and her set back. I hope she gets right as rain in no time!

Terri..your pictures look delicious!

I agree that you need to let MyPetChicken know about the infertile eggs. I had 4 infertile eggs shipped out of 8. I am asking for another shipment, at 50% infertile there is an issue.

A few more days till hatch out. I am looking forward to baby chicks.

I had a thought about your egg blowing problem.

coleman makes an electric air pump small enough for blowing up a camping air mattress. I believe it even comes with an attachment to put on a needle like would be used for pumping up a basketball etc

fortune may smile on you at a local goodwill/salvation army/ saint vincent depaul store as this time of year not many are looking for camping gear.

something to consider.

Day After To All.... Dang, that's a bummer about L Doc. Hope it's just a temporary setback and the mend will be swift. Thoughts and prayers sent your way.

The soap was a hit bl4....jennie could smell the goodness before she opened the gift....her eyes were wide open when she saw the quantity...thanks. Nope, no return yet. Pastor thought maybe
Christmas eve he might magically appear.

Good to read that everyone had a wonderful Chritmas

Hey All just checking in.....Sorry I missed a Christmas posts just too many other things going on..... read the 100 posts I was behind......but now I'm too tired to actually write a nice long post, had a busy week this past one, and a good but complicated Christmas, got a really cool rooster lazy Susan from my kids......., Adam rolled out this am to grab a load from the yard and take it to Beaver dam, then who knows where after that............ will post later with all the sorted details of this last week, first need a nap then gotta go get hay......... now that my truck is working again......... So just wanted to let ya all know I'm still alive..........Later all Kim

Amy, glad the soap was enjoyed! The smell will die off as it ages, eventually it will be a mild smell. It all smells that strong when it is fresh. BTW, I picked up Adobe Lightroom AND Elements..... I cannot wait to get going editing my pics! Now all I need to figure out is a watermark.....

I got both of those too, on Cyber Monday (for one heckuva deal!) I need to watch the tutorials, right now I'm kinda stumbling my way thru the programs and just skimming the surface. For watermarking I use Alamoon Watermark, its a free downloadable program (but you can upgrade.) Works well enough for my purposes.

Amy I've gotten a few puzzled looks over the years when I mention "snot sucker".

Years ago my family dubbed them 'Baby Booger Sucker Outers'. We have a knack for silly names. I truly hope that L feels better very very soon, what a scary thing!!

Casie, I see you got Jaer eggs! Where did you get them from? Mine girls are starting up laying again, but I've got the wrong roos in the wrong places. After a few go to freezer camp I'll move everybody around. Good luck on your hatching!

Hmm, Bigz, I take it your church is dealing with Nativity nappers? Saw it on the news last night. Some people's kids.....

I did send an email to my pet chicken right after the eggs got here and plan on contacting them again now that they have been in the incubator for 10 days with no veining. Will let you know what I hear.

Amy - I got some NJ eggs from cjwaldon over on the PP/Hatching eggs swap thread.

In other news... went out to the coop and found my wheaten marans roo laying on the coop floor not moving. Was all fine yesterday. Brought him in to warm him up, gave him some Vet RX and water but within a couple hours he was dead. No idea what happened, looked totally normal otherwise. Now I'm without a roo for my two wheaten hens. :(
