Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all! Not a bad day at work today...my client was alert but a bit shaky...I talked him into some breakfast (Stollen, cashews, pineapple and OJ) some great nutrition there for sure! He wanted nothing else so I did some badly needed cleaning in his house.
When I got home I continued to clean until I just sat down here! Five hours worth of cleaning and it doesnt look a whole lot different!

At least the cat boxes are clean and the floors are no longer gritty! Also cleaned out the cage where two sassy cats live and made a new litterbox for the bathroom so the dogs cant get into it.

Oh yeah...cleaned a window and stapled some clear plastic on it. There was a terrible draft and I am wondering if that is why Tommy keeps getting his sneeze back? The window is much better now!

for Tommy!

I lost 3 chickens on Christmas day! Robin(the roo) was dead in the coop (I might have said that) and Robin (the pullet) had a full crop and was down on the ground in the morning. I tried the olive oil thing and she was gone by night chores. Then there was my cuckoo marans roo that was dead at noon! (He hadnt been doing well) Shoot...no wonder I go into winter with so many birds!

Vicki I am so glad that we have not hit the below zero temps here yet! I dont mind winter when it is 20-25 and sunny so you can actually go outside and do something...but much colder and I just want to stay in! Oh darn, I wanted to get out to do chores before dark...pretty dark already! Not even 5pm yet!

So everything and everyone is doing OK here. (except the dead birdies!) The house is cleaned up from the Christmas mess and I have a bit of time to get ready for the next round on Sunday! Should be a good time...and I dont have to go anywhere! Of course the kids are saying that they ARE NOT helping clean...well, I guess that's fine...then I am NOT cooking Ha! (yeah right)

Tonight we are having a pork roast (that is starting to smell really GOOD!) butternut squash, baked potatoes and some kind of green veggie...I cant wait! I was so full from breakfast yesterday that I did not enjoy last night's dinner....

DrH--we need an update on L! I am still praying for a speedy recovery!
CassieD--I agree with Jim--dont take that infertility thing lying down! Make your voice heard. There is no excuse to be selling "hatching" eggs and having them be infertile! Hopefully they werent aware and they will make it right. Keep up updated on your progress! Good luck to everyone tha tis participating in the NY hatch! My chickens conveniently ate the bottoms of both of my bators so I need to make new ones with the tops or the parts of them....I think I will be using broodies this year!

OK I need to go out and feed/lock up. Have a great night everyone! TerriOmissinfherbackbiboverallsdidIleavethembyanyonyou?

I did send an email to my pet chicken right after the eggs got here and plan on contacting them again now that they have been in the incubator for 10 days with no veining. Will  let you know what I hear.

Amy - I got some NJ eggs from cjwaldon over on the PP/Hatching eggs swap thread.

In other news... went out to the coop and found my wheaten marans roo laying on the coop floor not moving. Was all fine yesterday. Brought him in to warm him up, gave him some Vet RX and water but within a couple hours he was dead. No idea what happened, looked totally normal otherwise. Now I'm without a roo for my two wheaten hens. :(

Casie... After I hatch out some of my wheatens this spring I could sell you my extra roo. His coloring is totally off, but he can still be used as seed starter for a proper conformation roo. Or else I could hatch out some Roos for you ...

Jim, here are a few ideas for emptying those eggs....

I have always called that little bulb syringe a snot sucker. The kids hated it too!!!

Dr.H, please post an update on L.... we chickenheads worry....

Amy, with my UW connections I can pick up software for a decent price. I am right there with you on learning the ropes.... I still have to figure out the stinkin' camera! Happy to have it though!

I was out doing a little more Christmas shopping after work, and I happened to find my White Elephant for the next bash!!!!! I cannot wait to see who ends up with it!

Kids baked all the cookie dough for me today! I have sugar cookie cut-outs, ginger cookies and chocolate crinkles. I think it is time for dessert! DH made pork steaks on the grill tonight, yummy! Cookies are the perfect chaser.

OK--I better get moving so I can get back and cook! Have a great one today and tomorrow...that is jammie day for us. Remember DrH when you stopped over for eggs and we were all in jammies? Yup, all day long!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!
Well, I'm 5 pages behind but I just had to comment on this one Terri. I remember you inviting DrH & L to share jammie day with you, but then DrH informed us that his jammies are, uh, flesh colored, shall I say?

Then we got into the discussion of him showing up on your doorstep in a robe and galoshes, something about a good stiff breeze (ok, bad choice of wording there)

and eventually a pic being posted of him holding Peatwo & a hay fork. Ah, the good ole days!

Did ya miss me?

Awww shoot! So sorry to hear about Laura's setback, DrH. I hope she doesn't need the surgery & is feeling much better real soon. You be sure to take care of yourself too. You'll do her no good if you let yourself get run down. And make sure you eat something.

P.S. I spent the entire day today in my new fuzzy jammies from my mom. MIL & BIL were both sick when they came over for Christmas Eve, so naturally both DH & I feel like crud today.

Think I will finish catching up tomorrow. My head is starting to hurt.

I hope everyone had a safe and very merry holiday!!!!!

Dang rooster in the basement again... :(

One of the Icelandic roosters has been getting big ideas about being the head Roo. Babe is a bloody mess! I brought him in the basement and will clean him up really well tomorrow. He's so bloody it looks like big hunks of feathers were pulled of his head, or they are just all clumped weird from the blood. I can see his comb is bloody, but do they bleed like head wounds on humans? This is the third time he's been pretty banged up. I think I might have to take matters into my own hands. Gggrrrrrrrr I hate doing the deed. But I'm not letting my breeder roo get killed before I have a chance to hatch out birds this spring! Cost me way to much money to get those Marans from Bev! I need this roo to sell fertile hatching eggs for Pete's sake...

Doc I hope L is doing better!!!

evening,, I am just sitting here sipping on my "root beer" Old Fashion.. I think I have the recipe just right for my liking.. I am going to do my typing BEFORE I finish drinking it..

I did not get the oil into Ollie today.. tomorrow I will do it.. I just wish it wasn't so cold out..

One of the brood chicks got killed in the coop last night .. IDK who dunnit >.. beat it up real bad.. did I mention that I think these broodies are bantam ? at least they are not full sized chickens.. and they are very good representations of what full sized chickens look like.. barred rock, etc... the hen is a small chicken herself,, and these offspring are smaller yet..

BF4me roosters' combs are very prone to bleeding profusely.. (they bleed a lot, CC)..

DrH, hope L is doing OK from now on.. I like your thought about the oil being cheaper than tractor parts.. how true, how true..
