Anyone have white silkies/showgirls? White cochin bantams? My birds haven't been laying and I'm falling behind for the 4h shows

Good late morning! Geez Jim--no wonder your nerves arent firing right after having a mug sized Old Fashion! (Fashioned?) Oh brother...say that a few times and you dont know which way it is...and the spelling is funny too! And just why is that drink old fashioned? STOP ALREADY!!!

SO I am working this noon...I hope my man is in good spirits! I just want to get him fed, cleaned up and get out of there! They have WAY too many good Christmas treats lying about!

CC that is so funny that you remember that whole conversation! I was recalling it too. Funny stuff...especially DrH in his bathrobe! We didnt actually stay in jammies all day this year though...my friend called and wanted to go to the dog park so DH and I got dressed to go. It was such a nice sunny day (for a change) and the dogs really needed it! Only 2 or 3 other sets of people/dogs there so it was empty--and not as much fun as when there are crowds of dogs! Speaking of dogs; they are all finally asleep after cat herding excercises this morning. Two on the couch, one under the table, one in the chair and one in an actual dog bed. (and it's quiet too)

BigFam--it is crazy how much those roos can take when exerting their dominance (or defending it)! Unfortunately now that you separated them they both think that they won and probably will go at it again as soon as they are back together. THis is what has happened in my experience anyhow. I try to let them settle it themselves if at all possible.

I guess I better quit rambling and get my laundry folded...then outside for chores and off to work!
Have a fantastic day everyone! They are calling for snow in the next few days here...maybe it will warm up a tad? TerriOhungryforsomething.....

HI,
I had the very same problem. I didn't have any eggs for 3 months. Same thing, when the days got shorter and colder. I put a light on them 24/7... not very high watts... about 2 weeks later, i started getting eggs again!!!!

I have a white silkie roo, white silkie pullet, and white paint roo. I also have a blue silkie pullet and a blue partridge pullet. Uummm what was the question again? LOL!

Quote: I had a couple of cochins once.. I gave them to a lady in Green Bay..

My question is not pointed at anyone in particular.. but,, when you have a nice strain of chicken ,, why do you cross breed?

the guy that I bought one of my bators from raised show silkies.. he artificially insememinated them.. I was going to ask him how he did it,, but then we got to talking, and I forgot to..

I still haven't gone out to take care of the birds.. I am tempted to make them stay inside during this cold spell.. the geese would be the most uncomfortable if I did.. and I hate to water them inside the coop as long as the geese are in there to slobber the water all out of the pan..
after I do the oil thing to Ollie, I will work on this problem.. just how to separate and sort 200 assorted birds..

last night I got the young turkeys into the coop all by myself.. they are gradually learning the routine..

Funny Cassie! I just reposted that on FB myself. I thought the exact same thing!
Good evening!
Jim I cross breed my chickens because any type lays eggs for me. And they do the deciding on who to breed to (or not!) LOL! It is a different story when I am collecting eggs or am trying to make purebred stock...then I separate them and they have no choice!

Supper tonight is ring bologna with sauerkraut, potatoes and onions. I am not too hungry and there are only 3 of us eating tonight so I decided to take it easy!

Well DH is home--gotta see how the day was. Later! TerriO

evening,, well, I bit the bullet and braved the cold, which turned out to be not so bad.. I put the oil into Ollie and then went looking for some snow to push around.. I cleaned up around our mail box, then drove down to the neighbors and cleaned out around theirs, too.. then I just went for a short ride up the road and back..
just you watch,, now that Ollie is up and running, we won't get any more snow to plow all winter..
the shifter shifts, the carburator carbs and the pistons,,,,,,well, they work too..

four more goose eggs today.. down to 22 chicken eggs.. I suspect that is just a temporary lull..

No more chicks killed.. I still have the one that looks like a barred rock.. cool looking thing..

tonight all I had to do to get the young turkeys in was beller at them like I do with the rest of the birds.. they learned quickly.. 3rd night in that coop..

tomorrow I have to make about 100 dinner rolls for the party at the restaurant on Saturday.. Joan is making the salad bar.. Zack , (the owner ) is cooking steaks, shrimp and BBQ ribs.. I am torn between the ribs and shrimp..

tonight we had real tommalis. (sp) made by the Mexican cook's wife.. just confirmed my opinion of Mexican food,, except for Chimichangas, all the food is too bland.. I found some salsa and put tobasco sauce in it,, then the meal was eatable..
I told Annie the next time she offers tomalis, or chicken,, chicken it will be.......
