Couldn't even get the "kid" to stay up. He pulled a double on the ski hill and is pooped! Guess he got stuck on the bunny hill and then the intermediate hill...dealt with kids all day!

kjg that's a great bunch of layers you've got! Was surprised to get 3 yesterday. Have some older hens here that don't lay. Freeloaders! WCc looks like the dog has a new toy. Better keep a sharp eye out for those yotes! On my numerous trips to Marshfield watched a road kill be reduced to skin and bones within 3 days. One day there were 2 sub adult eagles feeding on it. Don't know if it was yotes or wolves but it kept getting dragged farther into the woods each day. Congrats on the pip!!!!! Vic that wind was NASTY yesterday! Delisha agree that the horse looks like a statue. Think that pic was posted sometime back. Now get that cover back on the bater.

someone needs to. FT glad you checked in! Know you enjoy your time with Addy! Hope ET finds a better job! Bigz They sure do like new straw! Put fresh in the other day they never left the coop. And have clean eggs again. Need to get some more straw soon. Yup Cindy I was out by 9, sound asleep. But as usual "they" got me up at 3:30 this morning. Need to do some training or "they" better grow out it very soon! Yes the queen is set up on her throne [sofa recliner] she has a sinus infection, her ear, throat, and nose are hurtin. All the mucus makes her cough which hurts her stomach. But is only taking Ibu during the day and one 5mg oxy at bed time. Still not sleeping very long because of the coughing. Looking forward to the day when we all sleep through the night. Sure do miss that! Need another cuppa.

Good morning all and a happy new year to everyone! Played games with close friends until midnight then came home and crashed. I'm not used to staying up late anymore.....that must mean something? Shhhhhh.
I think I have hens that love cold weather...or at least it doesn't motivate them to go inside at night yet! They are still sleeping on the ladder in the run??????
No signs of burn/frostbite, they're still laying and acting normal. They're true northerers!

Happy New year to ALL! Well we got out to dinner and went back to our friends' place and I started falling asleep in their ultra comfy recliner! Yeah, we are OLD! Headed home and watched the ball drop then went right up to bed!
Does this mean you are the winner in the NYH contest Deli? Is the chick one of the ones we unwrapped when we were there? So cool--I will have to tell Peggy.
Carol was supposed to bring birds this morning to sell but her truck didnt want to come so I am short birds to sell! I sure wish some of you with extra roos lived a little closer! I am going to sell more of my muskovys too...
Great news that L is safely ensconced in her recliner--oops THRONE! I hope she gets over that infection soon...
Cind I hope your peaceful nightcap was enjoyable! You were probably one of the few that was awake in the baby hours of the new year! Of course CC had to be THE FIRST to post!

Now you can have that honor for the whole year CC!

Well, I guess I better drink up this cuppa and get myself outside to catch up some birds...at least the sun is out and it's now windy! (and I have my new fleece lined jeans from Christmas!)
Have a good one! TerriO

(PS) My Aunt had a heart cath yesterday and did very well--only one stent put in. She might come home today already!

Happy New Year everyone..

Yes that is one of the chicks you guys helped me unwrap!! Must have been your magic fingers at work!

I probably delayed the rest of the hatch with the cover off taking pictures. I woke up to my temps being 101 and did a little panic, but I figure I was only sleeping a few hours and it is not a big deal. The two other pis have very little activity, and not one more pip on a shipped egg..:( The other pips are on my own eggs.

Congrats to Hurley for winning yet another contest..this time the baby contest!

Chilly day...dd just asked if we could take Packer pup for a walk this am....just told her it was too hilly lets wait for later in the day and see. Have to go check the chickens later...hope they are doing ok with the cold weather.
Made it to east coast New Years last night and had to hit the hay. Eating better and hopping on my treadmill just make me tired...
Today is cleaning day...tree down and laundry in!

Happy New Year!!! Hope you all had a fun safe night. DH had to milk last night, so it was just me and the kids until yhey went to bed at 9:30, and then just me until he came in at 1:30. Oh well.....
All my chickens seemed ok yesterday when I checked on them. Hoping for the same today. Anyone else have an unheated coop? I worry that they will be frozen when I go out to check on them

Another question- I got two Amercaunas in August and I got one blue egg from them the next day, and NOTHING since. They were just coming out of a moult when I got them and they are about 1 1/2yrs old. Will they recover and start laying again, or do I just cull them?
Off to frost the cake I am bringing to DH's family Christmas party this afternoon. Have a great day all!!

Judge, my coops aren't heated either, just insulated well with some ventilation.

Well it was a cold one here last night, got down to -12° and that's not the wind chill. Was out doing the chicken chores and one coop got down to 7° and the other had a low temp of 17°. The water base heaters were able to keep up so there wasn't any frozen water. I was hoping to not find any chickencicles when I went out but they all look good! Got 10 eggs from the coop with 13 layers in it too!
