Morning!

I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are breeds of dogs that are so ugly I think they should quit breeding them, but others would disagree. To me, Quarter horses look like fat horses on dumpy legs, but they were bred that way for a specific purpose and that I can understand. The 'Barbie Horse' in the pic is one of the most ancient breeds of horse..... and since it is from the same area as the Arab, it is understandable that it would look the way it does.

Off soapbox now.............

Better get my second cup of coffee in and get my butt in gear. I want to get the floors mopped before DH comes back from the Ortho with the middle two.

Good morning all! It is my Aunt that had the chest pain this time. My Mom did go to emergency last month or maybe the month before...they found out that she has an irregular heartbeat but no surgery for her. THe whole confusion was that when my Dad called my SIL he said "Mother" when he really meant Sister (his). I may have typed that and confused you all...sorry if I did but thanks for the well wishes anyhow!

Those "old folks" need all the prayers they can get!

Looks like another gray one here today...I just loved that blue, blue sky yesterday! It made everything feel better anyway!
Love your kitchen too BL4! I should look up ours and share the pics. It too was a dark cave when we bought this place. I didnt get a cookie sheet cabinet either but I am glad that most can fit next to the stove. I wonder where I would start to look for those pics? We did ours 20 years ago this spring and I am sad to say that I need to replace several of the cabinet fronts. I did get the closet doors and two drawer fronts done but the man that made the jig to do the them has moved to Hawaii! Judge, be careful that you get SOLID wood! The guy that did ours said they were wood; yeah, they are but it is the kind that is fibrous like pressed wood but kinda fuzzy? Then they were painted and sealed...looked fabulous until there was moisture that got under the paint. Then that "wood" swelled up and started to fuzz out! The first place was above the coffee pot from the steam. Really ticked me off after what we spent for custom cabinets!

OK--looks like it is time to head off to work. I hate leaving right in the morning cause all the pets are fed and pottied and sleeping....it is so peaceful. Even Tommy is asleep under his light after having a pear for breakfast!
Oh yeah, DrH--I would wake those kitties up any chance you can during the day. Get something to play with them and make them play until they are very tired. That is a bad habit that can become engrained if you dont stop it now! Our first two cats used to do what we called the "Kitty 500" when they would run up and down the hall in our apartment all night. I learned my lesson!

Now I need to leave for work! TerriOwishingahappydaytoall

good morning, I have been reading but not anything to write about..

My first thought on that statue horse.. BOLIMIC (sp)| It looks like a grey hound .. I don't know who voted it the most beautiful horse in the world, but I didn't get a vote, did any of you ?? I will concede this, It is the most beautiful horse in it's breed .. I do not think the horse was bred for riding or driving.. It, like most show dogs, has "horse" bred out of it.. It is nothing but a lawn ornament.. lovely to look at, but useless for anything else.. I think it is sleek and pretty to look at, but still doesn't fit my definition of a horse..

TerriO, hope Auntie is doing better,, You did have us confused for a second or two..

DrH, you don't need to sleep straight through the night,, just get up and play with the kittens..

We have coyotes all around us in the neighborhood.. I have never seen one .. never saw any tracks near our property.. I think having these guardian dogs helps.. they bark if anything gets even remotely close to the property.. my dogs , especially Dora, sleeps most of the daylight hours,, then she stays outside all night.. every once in awhile we will hear her bark.. sometimes close to the house and often quite a way away.. the first round of barking at about 9 PM I think is the "doggie telegraph".. first one dog barks, then every dog that hears it, barks, and it spreads until every dog all across the continent has chimed in..

IDK how many chickens we have,, but we get from 22 to 28 eggs each day.. and 3 more goose eggs yesterday..

I have to dig out my 5 gal hanging type water can.. I am thinking of putting water in the coops for overnight, if I can keep it from freezing.. I tried it during the daytime, but it froze by night time..

I googled the image of the horse and found that the name of the breed is Akhal Teke. Wikipedia had some really good info. I for one think it is strangely beautiful... I you want one you just need to go to Idaho- http://www.akhaltekeranch.com/

Quote: The Akhal-Teke is the only remaining pure strain of ancient Turkmen horse. In the native language of Turkmenistan the breed name consists of two words: "Akhal," the long oasis nestled in the foothills of the Kopet Dag Mountains (once a part of the kingdom of ancient Persia, now present-day Turkmenistan) and "Teke," after the Turkmen tribe, the dominant nomadic people who inhabited the oasis and for centuries raised the Turkmen horse.

Breed Characteristics

The physical characteristics of the Akhal-Teke are very different from other breeds. Their fine head is carried high with a flexible poll and long, thin neck. The eyes are expressive, almond-shaped, and hooded for protection from the desert sand. Always alert, the ears are long and shapely. Often the mane and tail is sparse. The forelock is also sparse and at times no forelock exists. The Akhal-Teke possesses a sloping shoulder and thin skin. Their bodies are thin with a thin ribcage (compared to that of a greyhound) but the chest is deep with huge lungs. The Akhal-Teke has high prominent withers that slope into a long back with sizes ranging from 14.3h to 16h. Coats come in all solid colors from perlino to black. Their hair structure refracts sunlight which creates a unique metallic sheen and shimmers like molten gold in sunlight.

The versatility of the Akhal-Teke is in a class of its own as they are highly regarded for their speed, stamina, comfortable gaits, intelligence, and trainability. Their action is magnificent with free-flowing moves and a soft gliding, elastic stride. The Akhal-Teke shows natural collection at slow gaits, floating above the ground at the trot. Their conformation makes them an extremely comfortable ride without being gaited.

They do have an odd conformation but its due to an ancient design and breeding of 3000 years.
The most interesting thing is their metallic sheen to their coat, which was you see in the pic that was posted. they are considered an endangered breed, and there are only about 1500 in the US

Just took DS23 to work and I stopped at Ace to pick up a few plugs to put on extension cords. I added 2 heated dog dishes to the electric bill today....
Lost 2 more bobwhite quail and one looks not good so I brought him inside. I think it is just the cold...but I thought they live wild here. Anyhow I brought them all to an inside cage. Hopefully they will feel better in there! They were in a lower level cage outside but had protection on the bottom and top and 3 sides. The Cots are out there too in a higher level and I havent lost any of them this winter. Might have to check the quail thread...

I am making a ham tonight. I was going to do cream of turkey/wild rice soup but ham seems easier and DS already made the cranberry mustard glaze. DOnt know what else I will make with it. Maybe squash or sweet potatoes. What I really want is the bone cause I have a taste for split pea soup again.

I sure wish the blue eggs would shoe up better in a picture. I am getting Marans eggs now too! I am anxious to get started on making my Olive Eggers!

I hope my dark eggs are dark enough!
Guess I better get that ham in the oven...*sigh* dont get why I feel so tired again!

Nice Winter Day To All.... I was doing chores in the big coop this morning and could hear this scratching noise....what the heck. Discovered it was coming from the rigid insulation in the ceiling. I removed some slats holding the 4" thick stuff up and pulled a piece out....fricken mice had it hollowed out and full of feathers. 4 0r 5 mice came tumbling down and made it to cover. I had extra insulation and was able to replace the piece....now i have to figure out how to deal with the little rats.

Last night before dark, suzie noticed some deer in the one garden....wow...3 bucks and a doe. One spiker, ahigh rack 8 point and a huge wall hanger 8 pointer. They were munching the big bush broccoli plants that I never pulled last fall. It was fun to watch them for a half hour.

Hope L and T's aunt stay on the mend. I wish i could figure out a formula for age watchers and lose about 10 to 20 years.....now that would be cool and a money maker!

Venzun roast with home grown carrots and potatoes for supper.
