Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have read that Preparation H works for prolapse, but I have never tried it. Thankfully I have only had to deal with one case of prolapse, so far

, and it did correct itself after I pushed it back in. I hope you can find something that works for her.

Looking for input. I'm organizing a "chick days" at my work. I'm trying to decide between March 23 April 6. So far the only game we've found is chicken poop bingo. We'll have a Purina rep doing a presentation. I'm ordering a bunch of rare breed chickens, cornish x, and some layer hybrids to have on hand.
Any suggestions for games or preference on a date? Is April 6th too late?

BBP: Easter is March 31st not sure how this would affect it? People buying chicks for easter?

Trivia? Way to teach some chicken caretaking skills?

Guess the chicken breed? Either with pics of a couple dozen adults or a couple of random mystery chicks (and win the mystery chick)?

You could have the yellow duck game where you choose one, pick it up and a few of them could have store coupons?

Are you planning on putting up signs in town?

Im kinda excited about this!! Would be a good time to let some know about a western WI eastern MN bash if we wanted to plan something?

well, I guess I was told, eh ? I should have clarified a bit.. I do not rub a dog's nose in poop.. I just do it on the wet spot.. and no matter how much they like eating poop,, they definately do not like the discomfort of having their nose rubbed.. and a rolled up newspaper in no way hurts the dog, but it does get their attention.. I have done it this way since I was a kid.. None of my dog's carried a life long hate for me for doing this to them, either..

TerriO, that would be a cold day in heII when I would be tethered to a dog waiting to pee..

I got to town twice today.. I figured out a different way to fix Ollie..

I was faced with disassembling the whole hydraulic system.. just to get the v-belt off.. Not in the mood for that much work..

So I called my friend at TJ Rebuilders.. he was not open today, but he was in his shop..doing inventory.. I took the alternator to him and he put a slightly larger diameter one on for me.. sent a larger one along just in case I wanted to go bigger.. as it turned out, it was just right.. took up the extra slack in the belt, so now it is good and tight..

then I went back in to Motor Service Supply, and bought a flexible radiator hose that was about 2 inches longer than the old one.. came home, put it on, and the extra loop gave me about 1 1/2 inches of clearance to the v belt..

started Ollie up and let it run for 15 minutes or so, then hopped on and did a bit of scraping down the driveway.. Temp came up to about 150 and held there.. no vapor trails..

It just started to snow and blow when I just came into the house.. went from balmy to really nasty real quick..

Batten Down the Hatches Evening To All..... More good advice about the preperation H... CC, it's what i would do in regards to prolapse. Some never recover, however doing your best is all one can do.

Glad the cold snap is gonna be a short one. I love summer and Fall and Spring.....Winter not so muchanymore.

Well, lets see if Alanta has a better defense than the Pack does....one more week to prepare for them after the pack got gashed by the niners....I want the falcons to win, but my money is on the niners...hope i lose too!

I'm thinkin, niners and pats in the big game.

I really don't think the first week in April is to late bbp.....I'm a late april hatch guy and my pullets are always laying by fall.....just sayin.

I'm gonna tweek the bailys recipe...I'll let you guys know what's up after i give er a try.

Stay Safe and warm...bigz

Breakfast? It's dinner time Jim! Maybe you are having breakfast for dinner? I am, soft boiled eggs for me! I trained dogs like that too...before. And the reason for the tether is to keep BigFam's attention on the dog so she doesnt miss its signals. It has got to be pretty busy around there with all those boys!
CC you are terrible!

It wasnt the woman that died it was my sweet guy. 94--nice long time I guess and he went very fast. It was fun talking to all his kids and their spouses today. Everyone complimented me on his care, (which was nice) but the very next thing they brought up was my delicious eggs!

I invited them all to stop any time to get some.

It is still OK outside here. Down to 7 tonight though. I am glad that it's not below zero like you Northerners! I dont have a problem with winter if it stays about 20 or so...but I seriously dislike the below zero stuff!

My Meaties started sneezing yesterday and today I saw some drippy noses! I am really ticked. All this up and down in the weather is what I am blaming this time. Hindsight says I should have butchered them this past week. I started medicating them with Tylan tonight. I sure hope I caught it early enough and that it does the trick! I am not happy in the least...I just hope I dont lose any of them. There is only 1 that is really bad with the swollen nasal passages and I was going to butcher him and be done, but they I noticed that the others were also sniffing. Medicating them all!

Better eat my eggs. I overcooked them for soft boiled

Have a great night!

I am going to put an in the paper and signs in the store. Maybe in the school newspaper too. Guess the breed would be fun. Maybe have a bunch of cards with different chicken breeds and have like 3 people competing against each other to see who can get the most right. We'll give away waterers, feeders, small bags of feed and maybe a couple of chicks or ducks. I'm trying to avoid people buying chicks for Easter. I think a good percentage of them end up dead at the hands of small children. We are also raising 2 broilers on Flock raiser and 2 on sprout (fleet farm brand) for 6 weeks and calculating the cost per pound of bird to raise them. I've looked at results of other feed stores experiments and they are very surprising. The Sprout chickens ate much more and only weighed 1/2 as much. Maybe I'll even do a couple with soy free organic feed and see how they do just for fun. I personally am not a big fan of Purina.

BBP: Im very interested in the results of the feed tests. So you feed the exactly the same amount, then at the end weight them to see who has gained the most? I think trying an organic feed too would be interesting. Do you sell organic feed up there? I thought you would want to wait till after Easter after your stories of the chicks from last year.

Any good news on Leila?

You feed them free choice and weigh it every day to see how much they eat daily. We do sell organic and organic soy free. It has peas and crab meal in it. The only problem is, its a mash so pretty powdery. And its like $24/50 lbs. But I'd love to see how it measures up to branded feed.
Lila is not the prolapsed hen. I discovered it is my youngest hen. She was hatched late summer. Absolutely GEORGEOUS feathering. I was hoping to breed her :( I was thinking she was much too heavy to be Lila, she's pretty runty. I got up close with all my lavenders today so I could figure out who was who.
