I would think that if you heated up the syrup, it would run through the filter much freer ..
I suppose if you held the whole thing upside down, it would resemble a bell..
you might be thinking of a filter sock for pipeline milkers..

they are antique age, vintage,, but not rare.. count the farms all over the country .. each farm had at least one,, i knew of a farmer that had 4 of them..
there might be a smaller version for goat farmers.. ??
