Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter! Congrats on all the chicks.
Had a long day today, but it was great. Served about 30 people for lunch. I love cooking and preparing, but glad it's over.
Good news yesterday here. I wanted to check if I was right about one of the hens being broody, so I waited to gather eggs until about 11pm. Well- she sat on the eggs all day, but did go up and roost, so obviously not. But- I did get a big blue egg from my wheaten Ameraucana hen! First one since August. I am hoping she keeps it up, because I think if I breed her to my Ameraucana cross rooster we could end up with some cool chicks.
Good night all!

What a beautiful family!

Yes, Heather, I will have plenty of orp eggs for you whenever you want them. I'm finally getting eggs! I forgot to mention it, but the girls are laying 12 to 14 eggs a day now.

I'm sure he'd love a little action.

Jim, are those panels at Menards the corrugated "skylight" panels for the pole buildings? They are expensive, but they are durable and very, very nice. I have 4 of them on my coop roof.

I'm still a few pages behind. Gotta get to bed soon. Have to take the ancient one to the vet in the AM to be put down.

He's been ailing, hence the lousy day, but at least he isn't an emergency case. He is still walking around and drinking lots of water, but he lost his appetite yesterday and spends almost all of his time sleeping. He is such a bag of bones already, he can't afford to not be eating. Poor guy, but he had 20 good years so at least that is something.

I took this pic on Friday before he got ill.

Hi All!
Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!

Sounds like the chicks have been popping like crazy! Congrats to all the hatchers!

CC... So sorry about your "ancient one". 20 good years is a long time. I'm sure he knows it's time.

Well, stuff to do .... Night All!

went to bed before midnight,, woke up at 4 AM.. started the coffee going and came down here to find #11 waiting in the hatcher.. 9 to go.. went over 50% , didn't think I would..

looks like it will be a dry day today.. I hope I can get the roof all braced without a hitch..

then on to building 2 doors.. by then it should be warm enough to transfer select birds into the pen.

then as soon as the ground drys up, I will start on the green house.. have to get that done before it is time to plant the tomatoes out..

...jimgoingupforacuppabbl...........

chicks are still hatching.. I think we have 15,, and 5 to go..

I just set 51 more eggs.. 8 duck , 2 goose, 3 guinea and the rest chicken..

I need to come up with a better system for keeping the hatch dates ..

I have to take Dora to the vet this aft.. she has an ingrown dew claw.. I tried to trim it, but it is too painful for her..

Sorry about your kitty CC. No matter low long they are with us it still hurts.

Some stupid *@#%? pred got my last WH duck hen last night. Found her (what's left) a little while ago. She had an egg in her duct, so I took it out and will add it to the small batch I have from that pair. Hopefully every one of those 8 eggs hatch. If this keeps up I'm going to chalk it up to divine intervention and stop trying to have ducks. Now I have to listen to the lonely drake calling. Uggh.

Cc...I am so sorry...hang in there!
Judge...beautiful family. Great pic...never enough of those!
Amy... Sort about your duck...sadness.

Hope everyone has a nice day. We are having playgroup over to play with chicks

Judge...beautiful family
Ok, I have a couple of questions. First of all, I purchased 3 chicks from tractor supply a few weeks back. One of the chicks is a Buff Brahma. They are about 6 weeks right now, my question is, can you tell if it is a hen or rooster. Second, there doesn't seem to be any feathers growing back in the middle of its back. Any idea why?

Hard to tell sex with these pictures...because of the lack of feathering I would guess male. Your Brahma looks like a pullet from this angle. I am usually 50% correct.
Got to visit the ducks today, and surprise, surprise somebody had laid the first egg today!!!

I think it was Taffy, she looks like she is laying right now.... Jules feels a little on the light side right now. We let them have a few hours out to roam around and check out all the puddles and mud holes in the yard. They had a VERY good time and I bet they will sleep well tonight! We saw quite a few deer and turkeys on our trip to the in-laws and back...... oldest DS kept saying, where were all of these deer during hunting season?.... I keep telling him they are smarter than he thinks they are.... they know where to hide when to guns come out....

We came home to another little surprise.... one of the cats decided to leave a little present in our bed for us..... I just love changing the sheets 2x in one week!

Speaking of cats, I have to head over to the Vet tomorrow and get the final bill settled and pick up Runt. Another little box to join Squirrel's box.... all I have to say is that the other two better stay healthy for a long time! I can't go though this again for a while....

Anyway, I hope everyone had a lovely Easter. Time for bed here! TTFN!
Sorry for your loss of Runt.

Sorry for your loss too CC.

Congrats on all off the hatching!!!
