Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well finished the one unit and took all my cleaning and painting stuff to the next unit, have to finish painting this one. Of course tomorrow's work day depends on if we have chicks hatching or not!

Finally home from working on that lake house! FOr only being used on the weekends it was pretty dirty...well, not dirty really but dusty, fussy and full of lake bugs! It is really nice to clean a place where there is no "people junk" lying about! That is why I hate to clean my place...we have too much STUFF! This place is so spacious...if you look out toward the lake you are 2 stories up and it looks like you are on a huge ship 'cause you cant see the yard just the railing of the deck. I just love the house...this is the second time I have gotten it ready for renters in the winter and I sure would like to rent it myself...especially after I have cleaned it!

Maybe I should rent it one year and just come back and forth for the chores? Bet it is warmer than my place in winter!

So nice that it's cooler today...gonna start up the oven and bake some chicken I believe. Perhaps I will spill another drum of spuds from the garden and make some herb butters new potatoes too....mmmm. Got the garden tomato soup canned last night. All 8 jars sealed up. It was kinda nice...just turned off the gas to the pressure canner and went to bed. Let 'em cool down right in the canner. THey were still actually a little warm when I got up! I am in the canning exchange here on BYC and my buddy is going to send me chokecherry jelly! I have always wanted to try it and this year is the first year I have actually seen berries on the ground from my tree. I guess the birds usually get them. Anybody else make it?

I went outside this morning after I signed off on here and my box elder tree had lost one of its 4 trunks! It is laying across the whole yard and on top of the electric fence! It just missed the patio set and is about 5 feet from the garden! THe horses didnt get out (thank God) but I quickly fixed the fence before I left. I guess it gets to lay there all week until DH gets back home...I have enough to do without trying to cut up a gigantic tree too!

Well--I guess I better get a move on dinner...maybe the kids will just make their own instead...I am suddenly feeling VERY tired!

Jeepers can't even go fishin! Turns out that the state waterski show had just ended yesterday and the lake was totally churned. But neither of us got skunked and I go the nickel and that's all that counts. The boat didn't take on water and the motor ran fine, handled the waves very well! Think we have a winner. Stopped and visited with the BFF and fam took some of the load off with their 5 year old and we played several games of bean bag toss and I helped her make a hop scotch thing. She has problems with any number that has a curve in it. She called me Joe for the very first time. TO I have tons of choke cherry trees heard jelly is a lot of work. Found out a little while ago that ducks aren't the only ones that like minnows the girls gobbled them up. Bigzio When we bought bait I was commenting on the ladys maters and jalapenos and mentioned that I was having a hard time finding someone to give my cuc's to. She said she wanted to make some fridge pickles told her they'll be there in a few days and asked if she put jalapenos in them she didn't but will now. She said she put up 63 qts of dills. 63! hope she gives them away to people. Raimnel your learning, just give him a hug and love him anyway. He can't help it. It's a male thing. Even though all your suppers sound so good L's makin her nachos el grande supremo delishioso want moro! Have to go grate the cheese and get lettuce.

OOOH---I LOVE that kind of nachos! I have never heard that great name for them though...

On a more serious note; luck was with me tonight...I went out to give the critters their supper and there was nothing amiss. I went into the barn to get a bale of hay and when I came back down there was one of my half grown turkeys hanging by a leg! Thank God I was there. Got a hold of him and turned him loose. He is limping a bit with his leg out to the side but he ate and drank and then laid down. I got him up and felt his leg all the way up and it seems OK. So he is wandering around looking for his buddies that are already in the tree getting ready to sleep. I will go back out as soon as I am done with my tomato and pesto...the girls only wanted cottage cheese, noodles and pesto so I will cook the chicken tomorrow.
Early to bed for me tonight. I have to wash a ton of windows in the lake house tomorrow and then I am done! I also have to find my squeegee...they are all patio doors! UGH. I will have sore arms and I need to finish that hay too. Terri

Ok I need help, my little chick hasn't made any progress with getting out of the egg since this morning. I have brought it in the house and wrapped it in a wet paper towel and put it under heat lamp. What can I do about the shell? I know that I could do alot of damage if I start to take it apart, but doesn't it dry at some point? It's been this way for about 10hours. Should I just wait it out. I could post this under the emergency area, but I trust you guys more.

was it under a hen? if so wait it out. in the incubator, did you humidity get low, if not you mite have a deformed chick and it can't get out. the only time I help is if my humidity has dropped and the membrane is glued to the chick. ive had chicks take almost 24 hours to finish hatching

It was under her, than she moved off it sometime during the day. Even after I put it back under her she moved off it again. I made up a new hay nest for her and stuck everyone back under her. She was there when I can back down. Now the egg looks dry, I brought it in and wrapped it in paper towel and stuck it under the heat. I worried that the time it was out from under her it dried out. Do you think I should put it back or just leave it and hope for the best?

Yeah I thought that might be the reason. Darn it! Ok I guess I'll wing it. Thanks BCC! Just so I personally don't kill it, how far can I peel the shell back? Or should I say when should I stop?
