Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

What i do, is if its glued, get all the suck stuff off, if its just having trouble I crack the shell following what the chick is doing if you hit blood stop, pull on the shell and open/loosen it but don't compleatly remove it. you need to allow the chick to push it self out if possible

Another beautifully cool morning! Gee Bec seems familiar. Follow your instincts and BCC's advise. Btwo did the same thing but came out normal although she's on the small side. Hope everything works out

Thanks for recipe BCC! Will add it to the recipe drawer. TO hope your turkey heals up! Going to fill in the driveway today and a lot of smaller jobs that need doing. A lot of loose ends. Enjoy the weather it's not going to last.

Yeah it does sound familiar, but I like your ending better.

I just don't know why it didn't pop out. I got it wet and unpeeled what I could. Loosened the egg. It was making progress when I went to bed. But this morning was gone. I'm sure it wasn't my fault, it's just frustrating to me not to know the solution or how to fix it.

Thanks BCC for all your help. So far momma hatched 3 out of 6, 1 is lost, and 2 are under someone else because they are a day or two behind. So if the other momma hatches any from those two other eggs that's over 50% hatch rate. Not bad.
Well have a great day everyone! I'm moving the quail outside today. Hopefully all goes well.

) After that sad story right away this morning, and DrH predicting more heat on the way I needed a chuckle! I hope it goes well for ya too Becky! What type of pen are you moving them into?
I am having a quick cup here and then I am off. My client that flooded out came home yesterday and her sister just called me and says that she isnt answering her phone so she is concerned. I hope nothing is wrong. I am waiting for a little bit in case she is in the shower or something. THe windows on that house will have to wait until tomorrow and my DD18 will just have to come back from the beach (AWWWW...) and help with hay this afternoon!

Well, I guess I better get outside and lit the kids out before I leave...sure hope it doesnt rain on my hay! Later! Terri

Okay help me out here-we are at day 20 of incuabtion and this am one of the 16 eggs had some gunk coming out and building up on just a small area of the shell. Now I know we aren't to open the incubator but also figured that the egg should be removed so it doesn't explode- quickly removed it-and there was a smell to it
sickbyc.gif
. My concern is the other eggs and if this one could have damaged any-of course we'll have to wait and see-just curious.

thanks H&R for the reminder of the smell!

you got the bad one out.... is there any gunk on any of the other eggs? if not go into lock down and pray for the best. if there is gunk on other eggs maybe witha damp towel gentally wipe them. BE careful, dont drop any. best of luck.

I wish my garden did something. so far I got some cucs, tomatoes, a handfully of green beans and a muskmelon the size of a JUMBO egg.
lau.gif
the vine was dead and the melon was laying there, I cut it open and the kids all had "A" bite
lau.gif
poor them. oh and enough peas for me and DH to eat in the garden. ho hum! at least we got chicken and eggs. speaking of eggs I found out the hard way that my 2 new layers dont like you putting ur hand under them.

our ducks are loving free roam! what age do 'scovies start to fly? when do they start to lay? when should we switch them from chick/duck starter to duck food? can't think of any thing else, talk later

Poor kids...that was a funny comment though Raimnel! We have a watermelon the size of a grapefruit! I was pretty excited about it the other day when I spotted it. Those plants got in so late...I am surprised it has gotten so big already...the plants are taking over the tomato cages...good thing I got the last of the tomatoes picked yesterday...there might be a few stragglers in a day or two...figured the melons could use the space!

THe hickory nuts are falling off the tree outside my window. Wonder if the squirrels will let me get any this year? They are much quicker than me at gathering those nuts. I remember when I was a kid my uncle used to live just off the golf course at Pewaukee lake. We used to walk into the course and at the 8th hole there was an amazing hickory nut tree. We took off our socks--the tall white ones with the colored stripes on the top?--and filled them with hickory nuts! Then we went back to my uncles place and pounded them on a flat rock with a rock and ate them for the rest of the afternoon. When we got home we would pound them on the sidewalk with a hammer...I stored mine in the garage one year...bad idea! The squirrel found them; there was my sock (the day I remembered the nuts about a week later) with the knot still in it and a hole chewed out of the toe...nuts GONE! I think this started the me vs squirrel hickory nut war...ever heard of it?

So I found out that my client was fine...she had unplugged her phone before leaving during the flood and never plugged it back in. Both her sister and I were relieved...well, gotta get that chicken in...talk later! Terri O

Only the one egg had the gunk so we will see- looks like one of the eggs might have a small pip in it

Helping DD with her 4-H record book, I surf the internet and keep her going! She should be done in a couple of days!

Have a 4-H Leaders meeting tonight-hopefully DH will make it home before I need to leave so that I don't have to take all 3 kids along. Of course there is never enough time in the day to get everything done.
