Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Colton, you are fairly close to me. I am in Amery.
Also, I think I realized why I have been getting such bad hatches. When you have 3 incubators, a brooder, a 6 gallon fish tank and a washer and drier in a 6 x 10 room it tends to get hot . . . And my ducklings "stink" so my husband makes me keep the door closed. :( I need a bigger house.
If your room does not get warmer than 101F, then your bator should never get hotter than that,,

Do you guys have any idea how slowly I read? My goodness you are gabbing tonight.

Anyone have a suggestion for how to make a barrier inside the brooder. The weak little one is getting stronger and stronger, even standing up, but when I try to add it in with the little barred rock, he gets picked on. Right now he is in the incubator keeping warm, but I want to put more eggs in there. I bought another heat lamp for the ducklings today, and I have them on one side of the brooder, and the lone chick on the other side with its own lamp. i should add that the little BR is a fiesty little thing and I don't trust him to be alone with the other chick.
Welcome to all the new folks!!!
They like company..so it should be OK. I have never had chicks harm each other, though at times it sure looks like it. I am surprised with the 60 chicks I have in the brooder I would have some squished or injured, however I have been pretty lucky so far. 8 feet must be enough room for so many. They are going out this week so they have tons more room.

BlackBrookPoultry, you do live very close to me. I live in a little town called Woodville. You also said you need a bigger house and don't we all, well so does my family. We have three huge dogs and ten people. Not including all the baby chicks that are soon to come.

WOW 60 chicks. Did you hatch them all?

I have been following this thread for some time. It seems like alot of you know each other, so I will just introduce myself and say "hello" from the Kettle Moraine area.

Southern Kettle Moraine area. Palmyra, Eagle, Sullivan, Wales, Elkhorn, etc. Near Whitewater.

Welcome to the thread from a fellow Kettle Morainer. (Between Sullivan and Palmyra)

Welcome to all the new people, sorry I missed the chatter the last few days. My computer a-sploded, waiting on a new one to arrive. Grabbing a little time on the boys's computer, lol.

Thanks for the congrats on the photo contest, looks like I have some white and black bantam Rock eggs coming.

Got my wing bands tonight, banded some chicks and that went slick. Think I'll like these as long as they stay on. Getting tired of picking up bands out in the coops from the legs. Grumble.

Not going to the Pullorum seminar, went last fall in Waukesha. I've got about 300 doses of antigen left, will probably pick up a new bottle this summer.

Good late morning to all! I was looking at that little unknown chick...does it have a little bump above the beak like a turkey poult does? (or maybe I need new glasses again?) That would be a trick...sending a poult along. But gee, it has been done before hasnt it Jim?

I dont know what the bronze ones look like when they are babies....otherwise it looks very similar to the Phoenix crosses that hatch in my barn loft. HMMM...

Grey and rainy here too...but at least above freezing! The grass should be greening up very well. Too bad we arent having a nice thunderstorm...the crazy neighbor was MOWING his lawn yesterday! I thought I would be able to not hear that for at least a little while yet this spring! I HATE the sound of a mower. Actually I dont like the sound of any machinery while I am trying to garden or work outside...I guess I have this thing with noise....just ask DH.

I will welcome you back too Frenchie! The posts have been too short to really get into them...well, except for mine...so I am glad to have the company again. I noticed that you had to have yours post double just in case we didnt read the first one hey?

I hope all is well with your family in Racine. How is that adorable little niece of yours? I bet REALLY spoiled by now having you there for a few months! Man, your DH treats you well...doing all your chores while you were "down South" relaxing? Lucky YOU!

I am glad to hear that we Cheeseheads are doing our best to keep the population of chickens up here in our fine state! Congrats on all the hatching going on! Jim, I dont think you will make too much $$$ on those chicks if you are raising them until they dont need any heat! Unless you have a line on some good cheap food that is....

Oh yeah...I wanted to post this pic of the new pens I did over the weekend:

I still have to put something over the top...maybe. Looks like I need a yard clean-up in a bad way too!

Nothing like a picture to point THAT out!

Someone was asking aobut dinner bells the other day too. I took these pics of mine. The triangle I have had for 28 years. Used it all the time at our other house. We rang it During our Christmas Dinner to summon anyone that was hungry. (from a kids' story I think) Nobody ever showed up though...Then I got the chicken one when we moved here. It is very loud for such a small bell. I would LOVE to have the one that the neighbors on the hill have! It is about 3'X4' and on a huge stand. I think you could hear that one all the way to town if the wind was right!

Couldnt resist this Easter pic! My favorite part is the dog noses at the bottom!

OK--I'm done. Dh is onthe phone with the IRS trying to straighten out the 2011 W-2 debacle. Sure hope it works!
Have a great day! Terriowithtiredfingers
I was looking for a cow/rooster bell. If anyone knows of one on Craigslist or that someone is getting rid of I'd appreciate the consideration.

3 lavs in the brooder, 2 still in the bator, one zipping and one pipped, but I'm not too sure about that one. It's been pipped since late last night and hasn't had any more progress.

Update: 6 chicks out! Where are you, cs?

Hatching is so tiring!

OOOOOHHHHHH, my babies!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to get them. I've got the basement all cleared out, the chicks were transferred outside over the weekend and are thriving! I'll get the brooder washed up and reset. They are soooo cute!!!! My phone died today, so I had to wait until I got home at around 9pm to get on and man have you guys been talkative. More pictures please

Fond du Lac is a great little place to visit. I traveled there, randomly, during a blizzard about 14 years ago.
