I'd like to go to bed early some night. But my ducks will not go in until after dark. And I usually can't find all of them to chase them in before then. And now my $100 call duck has been sleeping under the coop and I haven't been able to catch him when he comes out. Thats going to be an expensive raccoon meal. I REALLY need to cut down on chickens. And now I have these chocolate orpingtons that I want to breed. Why can't I bring myself to go back to having a half dozen hens and a rooster of all different breeds and not stress over incubating eggs and breeding quality stock? It's just not worth the headache.
Oh, and speaking of headache, I moved my little broody cochin into her own cage, nestbox and all. She had chicks hatching today and I didn't want anymore getting killed. Well, now my black orpingtons chicks were attacked. One dead in the nest box with her and the other on the floor of the coop barely alive. I put it in the incubator but don't have much hope for it. I remember from last year she wasn't very protective of her little ones. And I have on lavender hen that apparently likes killing chicks. This is so sad. That's 3 dead chicks in the last couple of weeks
