Found amprolium for poultry at Fleet today, and started the regimen tonight. No signs of any illness but playing it safe. Oh Heather,

Welcome Erin! I'm a SAHM too and dabble in photography, we'll have lots to talk about.

I think Delisha is right about the ducks being Runner mixes.

One more coon down. It tried to grab my last guinea off her nest (of infertile eggs, goofy bird) on Mon night, I heard the shrieking. The guinea actually showed up on Wed, must have been hiding out somewhere. Good ol' livetrap is getting bent up with all these varmints. Last week something (prob a coon) got a little bantam hen that was sitting on a couple eggs in the tall grass. Wish I had a dog on patrol again.

Judge, i was going to say pullet on the orange one, and hard to tell on the black one. I think one Ameraucana parent makes the offspring EE, there aren't really any defining characteristics for EE's.

I'm way up in NE WI now but originally from Racine. I used to see a Doctor in Cudahy.... Always loved that town.
Just a suggstion. If you are looking for nice hens that both lay and are good with children you might want to consider some heritage breeds that have a calm disposition. Buff orpingtons and barred rocks are very nice birds. Also Rhode Island Reds are nice. But Rhode Island Roosters can be pretty headstrong and agressive.
Red Stars are a nice layer but they are a "hybrid" chicken if you will, meaning they were bred to lay large eggs and a lot of them. Only problem with that is they will quit laying sooner then your older heritage breeds. Just like humans chickens only have so many eggs to lay in their lifetime. Once they lay them all the hens are just expensive lawn ornaments and if you're like me you won't want to kill them. Up to you though, but my choice would be to have a breed that may lay less eggs but lay them longer (talking years here)

LMiller, Beautiful Horse, Son is not bad either !!! LOL Congrads !!!

Bigz... Glad you like the trees and the trip was worth it. Hope they do well for you.

Angibuds, glad Latte is still with you and that you found a caretaker for the sparrow.

Delisha, how's my little doggie doing? Her ears must have been ringing today.... I was telling the girls at the spay clinic about her taking up residency in my tent.... That was so dang cute....

Speaking of cute.... I couldn't take it today..... OMG there were 3 toy appricot poodles and 1 standard Poodle that came in to the clinic... I fell in love.
Plus there was a doxie and a little male rat terrier !!! Love them all. The little rat terrier mix was a shelter dog and he was crying after surgery !! It was so sad. There was a huge and I mean huge yellow lab named Marley..... He just wouldn't shut up... lol He had them all going. If you can imagine walking down the isle of an animal shelter and how loud it can get..... that is how it was ALL day today. They fixed about 25 animals today and I scrubbed all of the intruments from each of them...... about 300 or so..... I'm bushed !!!!

TO hope you feel better I don't know who makes me more tired ...... You or Jimbo......??? lol

Jim.... Last but not Least !!!! Did you get your Brussel Sprouts Planted???? So are you done with your huge flight pen or was that the Green House or are you building both ???? Wish I had your energy !!!!!! 3/4 heart hey ???? You old foggeys that work so hard put me to shame... now stop it !!! LOL

Ok I know I forgot a few of you but you newer members are not in my long term memory yet.... give it a while and I might remember your username and what you posted..... so don't feel slighted please... lol

Got a letter today from the Marshfield Clinic. They went ahead and already made an appointment for a cardiologist for me and scheduled an EKG as well. Gonna be a busy next few weeks but time to git R done !!

Oh, VickyW, I hear you on the body not cooperating and waiting for the chemicals to kick in. (can't remember exactly what you said) My arthritis sucked today and it wasn't until about 2pm that I felt some relief from the tylenol I took at 9am !!!

Ok, good night people... and critters.

I'm going to guess that both of those chicks are females. BUT that being said, Ameraucana's and EE are slow to mature. I thought I had tons of hens when all of a sudden my "hens" started crowing.. and yes ameraucana crossed with any other breed will produce Easter Eggers.
The sad part is EEr's are advertised as purebreed Ameraucana's, or Ameraucanas are being sold as EEr's.

Ok, fading fast here, have to hit the hay !!!

Night

Sorry to hear about everyone's bad fortunes with the birdies.

Lisa- Be proud of that son. Congratulations.

BigFam- Glad I could help by not posting all day. (certain posters) I know it's me.

Welcome Erin- Cudahey, I once married a truck driver from Cudahey. Enough said. I will try not to hold that against you.

All this talk about sudden death befalling birds is making me nervous. We are in Chicago for DS6 Shriner's hospital appointment to check and adjust his prosthesis on Friday and a gathering of like children/adults back at the hospital on Saturday. Trained up my Mother to feed chicks for a day and she would freak out if any of them up and died in her care.

I am back to zero birds in the house woohoo!

and lastly, I really like the SAHM acronym. because that makes me SAHD . I can't wait to use that in conversation.

Happy father's day everyone. I will be burning a brisket really slowly for the occasion. (with a rub, not a sauce)

Good Morning, where is everyone?

JJ, good luck down there in Chicago. Are you staying downtown where they have carriage rides?
Good luck at the prosthetist !

Btw, what does SADH stand for ? I obviously missed something.

Looks like ovrcast....figures, I need to plant more in my garden.......

Wow, getting sleepy just typing,,,,, oops nodded off.... better go back to bed for a while....lol

for a second there I panicked,, Sandi was on here before I am, I thought I really overslept..

can't tell if it is going to rain more or not.. had a real nice downpour early after midnight.. that is how it should rain,, before sunrise,, and then have a sunny day, and rain when we need it again before sunrise..

I pulled the big trailer in front of the garage door.. today I was going to start on the trusses.. I will too, if it doesn't rain continuously..

I think I have someone coming for guineas today.. I can't keep track..
