I learn so much from you guys :) I was wondering what normal chicken poo looked like, lol. Learn something new everyday!

Some pictures from today. My hubby met the birds for the first time today :) I don't think he was too impressed. He's not really an outdoorsy or animal person lol.

the black/white duck "Creeper" is getting some gorgeous blue feathers!

bahaha.. silly chicken.

so, roo??

Hi All!

Sounds like TO is having an impromptu mini bash! LOL (Weather she wanted it or not) Well, if she doesn't provide too many "Tommy type" drinks, maybe she will get her hay in!

JJ... Hope you make it home before the street lights! Don't want to get you grounded!

Angieb.... Glade to here your chicken is doing better!

Colton,... Hope yours pull through OK. I say feed her eggs and oatmeal.

BigZ.... Finally made that tongue! I did it like Sauerbraten and pressure cooked it in the brine. Skinned it, sliced it and threw it in the gravy. Very, very tender and not a bit left! I didn't tell "the people" (as TO puts it) until it was gone that it was tongue. I love my pressure cooker! Thanks again!

I know there was more.... reading while trying to do other stuff again so CRS! Jeez... I would just catch up, go do some work, come back and 2 more pages added! LOL

Chick count still good. BTW, who ever was worried about your cats going after your chicks....I have 5 cats. Most of them are hunters, however they know the chickens and chicks are mine and leave them alone. Not so sure a stray cat would leave them, but my cats do.

Night All!

I will have Lydia with me and be there around 2:30 ish.  I had a typo before DD3 not DS.  My DS6 will be distraught that he did not come too but he has River Rats Day camp this week.  They take em out and get em wet roll em in the mud and creatures and have you pick em up at 3pm to bathe and get stories of the days discoveries.

raising them right, covered in outside dirt.

I totally agree with you. I was raised in a family of four girls and fairly prim and proper. We lived ore in the city when the twins were born but moved to the country before they were one. I totally think they need to be raised to run and get dirty and discover bugs and get scratches! Perfect and tht camp sounds like a blast.

Wish we did not have kid birthday parties today or I would join the fun at Terri's! I have a feeling there will be plenty of mud to roll around in today with all this rain...and I wish I could sleep, through a thunderstorm sometime...ugh. Maybe it will rain this afternoon and I can pop a movie on for the kids. I don't do it often but with rain or high heat I do and that means there is a chance momma can catch a nap on the couch while they watch. Bad momma skill, but it happens once Ina blue moon. Birthday party is two hours...so our nap in there between drop offs...might work too...sigh sad to think I am sitting here wide awake thinking when I can nap nxt

EPSOM SALTS= WATERERS= HOW MUCH???
http://hencam.com/henblog/2011/02/the-epsom-salt-cure/

1 tsp per cup of water for a drinking drench for the flock.
You should bathe the poor silkie in it too and anyone else who has it bad enough to get them wet.
I would put them all out in the outside run with one container of water with the epsom drench for just the morning. Refill it with fresh water in the afternoon.
Hi All! whew.... I had checked in quick first thing this a.m. and just had to catch up on 10 pages!
Been busy here all weekend. Dad left for home this morning. got the call he made it home safe around 8:30, so 12 and 1/2 hrs isn't bad time. (yuck)
DH had his annual GMO (golf outing with his college buddies) Saturday and we host every year so I was busy cleaning/cooking. This year was much more mellow than last.... maybe age is catching up to them?! Our 'bar' used to be known for the 4am closing time, and it seems to get earlier every year! lol DH kept his limit low and actually didn't end up hungover! he managed that a couple weeks ago and cursed himself for a week.
Anyway, glad to hear most are doing well. BF4M - sounds like things got squared away. It was so helpful, Thanks for posting, I have my food and water inside my coop and will be changing that up quick! I was going to ask if it is normal for them to go back in the coop during the day for 'snacks and naps'? I thought they'd want to be outside all day? It's only been a week that I let them out on free range and we had lots of 'dog friends' visit, so that's likely a lot of why they are leary about venturing too far from the coop, but still? inside?
Another question, would the bloody stools be black or red?
There are a few droppings around that are like blackpudding.... and also twicec today I saw my 6wk Aussie squirt and it was really watery like?? Is there a forum page to get poop info?? (Not that ya'll can't/won't help, I just don't want to bother you with poopy talk if I should look elsewhere.
All my chicks appear healthy and happy, but when I hear some of you talk about sick chicks, I get worried.

Ugh! another late nite for me.... gotta quit this!
gnight all~
I was going to post the same sight that was posted..poops sound normal
Quote: I can't sleep with them either.
Naps are good

Amy...any chance that turkey is a Naragansett? That is how mine look when they hatch. Where did you get the eggs from? TO
I got them from WVStruttin. He does have Naragansetts, maybe the egg got marked wrong. 4 were marked RP, 4 marked BR. Doesn't matter a whole lot, they're all freezer bound in the fall. I'd just like to know.

Well ladies, and gents, I would join you but you know how it is. Once to pick those berries you have to get them processed. Since I will be working the next 4 days I have to get those suckers done today.
hmm.png
I know you will all have fun without me there!

Headed off to Clintonville in appx 15 min or so (I still have a kid to blast out of bed). Brent, I would LOVE some fresh eggs! I should be up there around 8 ish.

Thank goodness the weather is cooperating!
