Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Saturday Evening All... What nice weather for this time of year. Fired the grill for venzun at it's best.
Finished painting most of the older coop today, while suzie was staining the front deck to the house.
One of my friends stopped by with his custom made Honda Goldwing 3 wheeler....sweet to put it mildly....I asked him WHAT THE HELL....He said you don't have to leave it all to the kids...

It looked great, and sounded even better....I thought it was a 1100, but was a 1800...really nice.
I cut all the seed heads off the Amaranth today. It's a first for me so I'll have to see how it turns out. Prolly 3 full wheel barrows full. I also picked up a total of 8 full wheel barrows of black walnuts that were all dumped in the woods for the squirrels and chippys. Suzie says I should sell them, I don't want to bother with no show customers.
Keep er going, no turning back, eh! ~ bigzio

Good Morning Everyone! GC you truely have it bad! Chickens are soo addictive. Sounds like everyone is busy as always. Would like to get the feed/bedding area cleaned out today in the coop in prep for moving P and Btwo in there. I got the utility room cleaned yesterday and L cleaned the fridge and all the pots and pans scrubbed plus all the lower cabinets. We're going to do the rest kitchen today. My back was killing me last night so I'm going to have to watch it today, don't want to get incapacitated. A long way to go yet. Boy this is a heck of a way to clean the house. Hope everyone's day is great!

Happy beautiful day everyone! Hope all is going well. I just wanted to thank FM for the heads up. DrHa- Hope all is going well with you. Don't work to hard. Hello to all that are new. ChrisD- Honestly I don't have any vents in my coop and they are fine. I do have a window on the east side that I crack open when it gets hot in there. Last year I didn't have any problems. I left the window about an inch open during the day and closed it at night. I have windows that make up my southern wall so it gets warm in there. I didn't get any frostbitten combs. But I think it all depends on how your coop is built. DH keeps talking about putting a vent fan in there but hasn't yet. I also put a heat lamp in there when the outside temp is below 10. My chickens are spoiled though. I let them out from dawn to dusk. During the winter they spend the day in the coop or in the barn. You'll find they are babies when it comes to snow. Mine sit on the step and look down and then at me and say "I think you need to get the shovel?!" Well got to go. Have a great day everyone. I'm going for a motorcycle ride with DH. Terri - it's our weekend off.

Chris D. I also am new to chickens and everyone here is so helpful and kind. Busy day for us also. We processed the broilers and all went well with that. We have a pair of Jungles to get through our first winter with and I hope all goes well with that. I think we have enough vents but not sure. I can't wait for spring so we can get more Laying chickens that we can keep for years. Dr H I sure hope all goes well for you and L, It's enough work just to keep a house clean on regular circumstances. Sleep well and watch your back I know how that can be when you want to do so much and your body just says Hey !

Well we got in our ride today on the horses, I took the young male rooster and the pullet back to the coop, she is standing, but her balance is wayyy off.. I taped her legs together again and will check her tomorrow.
We took a friend and her horse, which is "green" and hadn't really been ridden since last Dec.. WOW:eek:
We loaded up and went around the corner, our horses ride better when they think they have actually gone some where.. silly horses..
Had a nice ride around the hay fields:love

, and that was the only ride my DH will be out on for the rest of the year probably.
I haven't ridden my own horse since just before my accident, she was a saint.. being a saddle bred cross, she is neurotic, and high strung to say the least...She walked like she was on pins and needles with me.. I WUV MY HORSE!!

Those horses are beautiful! The weather is just to die for. We're loving it here being GA natives. It gets too cold up here too fast for us sometimes but this is great. Hope it keeps up. There is still lots to do this fall. I'm popping in on this thread occasionally just not posting. Anyway, we have kittens that are ready to go. If anyone is interested I need them to go to nice homes. I hesitate to post them on Craigslist. My daughter went to a llama open house to help out with felting and taking the llamas out and brought a few of the kittens. I about cried when one of them left. Bittersweet to say the least. The boy that got one of them had worked last year to get out of the special reading group at school. Their cat had died last spring and his Dad said that if he worked real hard and got out of there he could have another animal. He did it and isn't in the special reading group this year so he picked one of our kittens. He was about 9 and you could tell he was in love with the kitten. It was a happy ending but now we have four more to go. We can't spay the (dropped off cat) until she is two weeks weaned from the kittens. If you all know anyone that is wanting one we are near the twin cities border.

Good Morning Everyone!!! Stupid Packers! scarter good luck with finding the kittens good homes! WCc you had a beautiful day for riding glad you got to go out and enjoy it. farmerforslund butchering is always a chore. Thanks for the well wishes and your right about the cleaning. We did the kitchen yesterday, told Laura that we should have a flood more often just to really clean the place up. She didn't see the humor. So far the bathroom, utility room, our bedroom, and kitchen are done done. Have to go in and scrape the glue that held the cheap rubber backed carpet in the second bedroom. Already have about 10 hours in on the initial scrape now down to the worst of it. Used a sharpened hoe first now going to sharpen my ice fishing chisel. Fun Fun fun!!! cd that must have been fun watching the city kids with the birds, bet they had a lot of ?'s Becky I always like to watch the birds come the coop door and look at the snow like their trying to figure out a way to get around it. Maybe little snow boots and little knit hats with ear flaps this year. Have a good day!

Another great Monday morning! Drh just a heads up I know scraping glue sucks but just so you know there are some pretty nice tools for the job. Menards sells a 4 " razor scraper with heavy duty blades and they also make an 8" scraper with a long handle but I don't know where you can buy them probably a flooring center but they both work great and are by far worth the money I have tried an ice scraper and it sucks.
Wichookchic beautiful horses what a great day for a ride. Sounds way better than winterizing the boat but my little buddy helped me out my 20 month old grandaughter helps me out with everything. Its awesome to see her with the chickens she helps feed and water and loves giving treats lol
