That's quite a coop there...is the one side really BRICK! I couldnt tell if it was real or fake from the pic. My friend moves buildings all the time and he puts boards crossways inside and lifts the whole thing with a fork lift onto his flatbed. It works for garages and stuff but I dont know about brick! Good luck...looks like it could be a useful little building!
DrH you really gave me a chuckle with that comment about boots and hats with earmuffs! I can just see it! Everyone already asks me about their aprons that osme of the hens wear...I tell them they are "dresses" and people believe I really do dress my chickens (and not for the table either

) I think you should put an auction up and take a pic of a little hat and boots and see if you get any takers!
I am anxious to hear about you surgery WIchch--how do you abbreviate it again? So you can still ride? I want to know if your mare is gaited...I had a saddlebred mare that I just adored. She had the most wonderful gaits! We have her "baby" he is 14, and is definitely NOT gaited. I would absolutely die to find another horse like her! She took care of me like that too...when I put my then 3 year old daughter on her she was soooo careful! I will look to see if I have that pic...I think it was before I did digital though.
I wanted to go for a ride yesterday too. My dd18 said that McCarthy was just packed! She was on her way back to college though...we rode on Friday and it was gorgeous then too...ya know we really havent even had a killing frost here yet! I was talking with dh about that yesterday. I actually still have basil that is alive and growing! My annuals arent dead yet either. WHat I think is that we will have that frost and THEN have our Indian Summer! OK--this will keep pretty nice weather here until, oh, say the beginning of December; then we will have snow for Christmas and an early thaw in January, maybe a few more snows then SPRING!

My weather forecast is now at March first! Who's with me?

Well--lots of work to do here today...my back was out yesterday so I spent the day lying in the yard on a piece of carpeting reading my book! Havent done that in YEARS! I must confess...it was kinda nice to just lay under a tree and read like I used to do when I was a kid! Too bad I felt so crappy doing it! Now today it is double work! DARN--

Have a fantastic day everyone...remember, only 2 weeks until out mini-meet! Terri O

TO, If I tried laying in the yard on carpet, 1 I'd get a wet butt and 2 I would get buried alive with leaves. it looks like it is raining leaves here. we have 20+ BIG trees here most in our back yard. which reminds me, does anyone know of some one with one of those lawn mower attachments that pick up leaves? a cyclone rake? We want to try it out before we look at buying.

I was thinking also about some kind of boots for chickens/ducks. I was enjoying our ducks looking at those feet thinking about winter. Brrrrrr what to do? what to do?!

Have a good day!

Beautiful Afternoon All!! raimnel the maples here are just about devoid of leaves, seems like it only took about 4 days. But then again the last few weeks have only been a few days long.
Actually eating lunch for a change, need to do that more often. WCc and TO I can just picture them with boots and hats on. Out there building snow coops, riding down a hill on a chicken tobogan, making chicken angels, catching snow flakes on their little chicken tongues. Awwww! cd your right about the ice chisel, it sucks but got it down to the tile. Took a long time and a lot of effort to get just a small area done. Running out of effort. Going to take your advise and look into a better way. Thanks! It was my well sharpened ice fishing chisel, only about an inch and half wide..

How about little cross country ski's fer chickens!!

I like WIcchook.. I dunno.. how about Carol ?? LOL
I have been on horses since about 2 weeks after my initial surgery in July, saddling the taller ones is fun. I am not sure if Indi is truly gaited or not, but she is usually very comfy to ride.. unless she is
upset about something and decides to do her "prancy/joltie trot/walk".. umf very uncomfy.

Dr.Haha,
The inside of the coop is wood, and it has a fake brick facade, from what I can see on the pics. I am just afraid it would fall to pieces if moved.

On a side note, I had emailed on some chickens that were near by to me, but hadn't gotten a reply on. Surprise surprise.. I got an email then a call when I emailed back. in like 2 minutes.
A very nice lady on a 200 yr old farm, she had some project chickens from the local schools and 4H, white leghorns, production reds, a lovely barred rock rooster, some leghorn roosters...
So now I have three young hens either ready to lay or will be laying very soon. A white leghorn cross, mostly leghorn but has speckles of black on her feathers, with a gimpy leg from an old injury,
a production red/rir cross, and a black sex link.
They are at the end of the barn in QT, across from Muffy the EE that will be coming out of her QT in about a week or so.
So now I have Honey Hawk the free EE with the cross beak, eating voraciously and doing quite well, Raggedy Ann the frizzle pullet who seems to be defying the odds and wobbling her way to surviving, and now Speckles,
the gimpy leghorn.. I call them the gimp squad!! LOL
I will get pics in a day or so.

Carol

Hey all!

newbies and lurkers!!!

It's been eventful here for sure! The job is going well, still getting into the swing of things but I think I will be fine. I can't wait to get out bills paid off so we can seriously think about moving!!!

The ducks went on a little field trip last week, they squirted through the picket fence into the neighbors yard to visit the bird feeders..... DH busted them and sent them back home to jail!

The two oldest kids started Hunter Safety classes this past weekend; on Saturday I get to pile all the kids into the car at 7 so we can make it up to the Dupont Town Hall by 8 (up by Marion). I'm going to come right back home after I drop them off though, I have things to do here at home and can't afford to sit up there until 4...... I am very happy they are finally in a class though, DH is just itching to take them both out hunting this year.

Dr. H, good luck with that nasty carpet rubber junk. I never want to see that stuff again if I can help it!

Well, better get moving and finish making dinner.

Later!

to all who are new here! Glad you found us. Boy the days seem to be moving faster, have been able to read and keep up with the postings and now finally have a minute to write.

Well as of Sat afternoon we moved all(except the baby Welsummer chicks)the birds into the new coop(12' x 10'). Have 3 pens inside and 3 covered runs outside, we did insulate the roof and walls, has 2 windows and the shorter wall( 10 foot ones) and 4 vents at the roof that can be opened and closed as needed. We put a rubber roof on as we had a piece left over from a job. We also have started adding lightening so that we are around 15 hours of light. Hopefully the birds will start laying so that by Dec 2010 we can separate out birds into breeding groups so the lids can hatch out some new Blue Andalusian and Bantam Partridge Cochins for fair projects. Looks like our egg layer flock(5 hens) are molting now so we aren't getting many eggs. The 5 boys had to fight as to who rules that pen and it looks like "Tuff" the Ameracuna rooster is top dog with the 2 Partridge cochins next and then the 2 Blue Andalusian roosters so they all look a little ruff!

Also trying to finish cleaning up the old coop-which we are listing on craig's list to sell and the other 2 areas that the birds were hanging out in. Our small pen in the garage will be cleaned and then the Welsummer chicks will be moved there until they are big enough to join the older ones.

Terry O- the kids enjoyed playing with the puppies but gave up on trying to ask for one!

Glad to see that everyone else is enjoying the nice weather too!

Have a nice night.

Wichch its hard to tell by looking at the pics of that coop but it does almost look like pole construction but instead of horizontal gerts they just used x bracing and atached barn boards and then a brick veneer over that. Can't see a bottom plate on the walls because of the bedding but I don't think you can move that structure in one peice the brick would probably crack if not fall off because it doesn't look solid enough to carry the brick load. It looks like a nice structure though so I think it would be worth it to take it apart and rebuild it again

Hope that helps

Good Morning Everyone! Slept in a bit this morning. BL4 have to agree on the never see that again. What a B! Getting outside stuff done today along with scraping. Heading to Rapids this morning to get said scraper. Saw a chippy run into the coop yesterday and come out just as fast with Brownies right on it's tail.

Think by the time I'm done scraping I'll have an upper body close to BBCB's. Well feels like it anyway. Have a good one!

I had so much to post I forgot half of it....

After taking the kids up the Marion, I drove through New London and lo! A farm stand with CABBAGE!!!!!!!!
wee.gif
I picked up 5 giant heads for $11 and they were shredded and salted the next day. My big redwing is now fermenting away making the DH his beloved saurkraut!

I also forgot to mention that this year is the 125th Anniversary of the Fire Department for our little town. To celebrate they held a nighttime parade of lights featuring the city Fire Trucks and trucks from the neighboring communities. It was so cool! They started the parade with the colorguard and a bagpiper leading the way. At the main intersection in town two ladder trucks were stationed holding a giant American Flag for the parade to pass under. No sirens, just a long parade of trucks with their lights on. Very very cool.....

After the parade they department held a dance featuring the Spicy Tie Band; if you get the chance to see them perform they are completely worth it!

FM, I would stop by BigZ but I don't think he needs the two younger kids wreaking havoc.......... BTW, did you hear what your future DH did the other day for that little girl? How cool is that!

Ok, I think that is everything.... I'll let you get back to your regularly scheduled programming......
