Sclark, also cute pictures

BL4... where is this that you work that has a cat morgue? I know You told us once or twice or maybe more then that but CRS is working full time these days.

VickyW storm didn't last long.. Still have my bloomers on.... that's all.... sitting in front of the fan again.

Went to town, got all of my Maynards rebates mailed. Will be getting about $112.00 in Maynard certificates.

Then I went to the Casino again to get my free birthday T shirt,... and as long as I was there decided to play the slots again !!! Mistake this time.... lost my $17 !! Rats !!

I was trying to hang around for their 1/2 drawings for a chance to spin the wheel and win anywhere from $5 to $25... Stayed for three drawings... no luck.

Met a few interesting people while I was there. There was a guy from Waukesha who won $3,700.00 on the slots. He was up in the area to settle his mothers estate. He said he had just lost his mother so he started to drink and play the slots again. He ended up walking out with only $300.00, he started with $600.00. So he said all that excitement for the weekend only cost him $399.00. He was filling the machine with tons of money and didn't seem to bother him to lose it. Guess if he plays enough he figures he'll win again one day.

I'd sure like to win one day !!!

Then I met an 82 yr old lady who is from Tomahawk. She pays a young girl to drive her to Mole Lake once a week. She was so cute. She told was in an orphanage from age 10 to the eight grade. Her Mom died during childbirth when the above woman was only 8 yrs old. Then her father was killed when she was 10 yrs old. He worked in a shipyard and was crushed between to boats !!!
Poor little old lady....

So because I was out and about I ordered shrimp and fries for ET and I from the Casino restaurant. They were ok, fries got soggy by the time I got them home though.

Sure is hot and sticky..... TG for fans..... our CA is broke

Morning everyone.

Bl4-the pill bugs can be purchased from Carolina Biological if you can't find enough to start a colony. We use glass fishtanks, peat moss with a bit of dirt, pottery turned side ways for them to hide in, and weekly I use a squirt bottle to wet down everything and sprinkle in fish food. The mealworms colony I mentioned we have pine shavings, paper towels layered, then wheat bran (available Pic N Save bulk) (oat bran= too tough) and some form of moisture, usually a cut up apple or potato, often past its due date. On top I put paper towels, moistened periodically. to provide shade and reduce evaporation. The colony goes thru cycles with similar instars maturing synchronously.
Um..then you mentioned elodea...buy it at any fish store, PetSmart always has it, and put it in a fish tank.
Sorry about the doggie!

Cindlady, sorry your dealing with mareks, I hope I never have to. The big mg scare was bad enough for me and to find out all along it was a parasite! And anyone else for that matter going thru chick diseases. Also if I stay off my feet NOTHING will get done around here. Good thing I went out and checked on the animals as son was too busy mowing the neighbors lawn his rabbits were out of water. Both the bucks are shedding and daughter spent about an hour just coming out Thumper(Netherland Dwarf) Yelled at son to gather up bottles to freeze water to put in rabbit cages and chicken pens to help keep cool. Just cold water and shade areas don't seem to be cutting it as their were alot of hot birds yesterday.

Thought I'd share a few more photos from over the weekend.

Little Orp chick come to see what I was doing, not a clear photo but thought it was cute.

Spent Saturday night camping at Trails End in Bruce with the boys for Boyscouts. We had hobo dinner and breakfast the boys made us, turned out pretty good although I couldn't eat as throat is still too sore. The site is located on the Chippewa River and regulated by Rusk Cty, open to the public for small fees. The kids were on a canoe trip earlier Saturday which I missed because I had the swap meet to go to. We had the option to stay in a cabin for $1 a night but I chose to ruff it in the tent, I did however bring the air mattress. Photo was taken on the walking path that leads to a rope bridge.

After camp was over we come home and unpacked quick and went to Slough Gundy north of Hawkins so the boys could swim and me and daughter could take pictures. This is just south of the Flambeau Prison. When we went last year, this was all covered in water.

Once you cross this river bed, there's a trail that goes to this cliff that everyone jumps off.

This is the view behind me.

Stormed pretty good here last night, they said we got 2 inches of rain. I love to take lightning photos so thought I'd try and get some shots last night but it stayed in the clouds and showed no bolts.

Here is a shot I took last year of a storm that went thru just south of my place, it was nice as I could sit out and no rain to fight with wrecking my camera.

Hi all.
I was thinking about going to this show and was wondering if any of you have attended? I don't show but might be interested in buying some birds. It's a long drive for me so I'm trying to decide if it's worth the time/expense? Is it a good show? Birds for sale? A must see? Don't bother?
Thanks for any help.

I think me, daughter and son will be going. We also have our fingers crossed as son has a story entered in the Poultry Surprise contest that will be given out on Saturday at the show. I think it would be nice to see so many different breeds of chickens and the quality of them.

Heather, if you need playmates for your chick, you can always take a drive down here.

I also have a couple lav chicks for your one striped one to play with.

130+ posts behind again.

I went back about 6 pages but the headache kicked in again. I've had it almost nonstop since Friday.

Must be from all the head banging?

On a sad note, Moose died last night.

I don't know what from. I think he was 6? Jack is still kicking, though.

Sorry if I missed anything important. It has been very busy. Stay cool tomorrow and safe from the storms. Sweet dreams, all!
Please get better!!

Sorry about Moose..

All this brownie talk makes me think I may need to make some for our fishing trip . . . good treat for sitting out on the boat and pulling in gills

babylady4: Is this your first year growing these heirloom beans? I never new the name of them, but my Grandmother always grew a bean that looked just like that. She would wait until the plant died off, then picked and shelled the beans. Once cooked she would drain, then add cream and butter . . . very yummy. They also made good succotash.

FT: Love those Menards rebates, we just used up our $200ish gift card from rebates. Is it too early to get in the pool?? I'm also without a/c right now. Our central air went out in the night so I didn't get much sleep. This is going to be a long day at work

hope hubby is able to get the service people there today. I'm sure they're getting lots of calls this week.

Stay cool and safe everyone!!

SClark, cool pics!

RB, yes this is my first year growing these beans. This is the description from Baker Creek heirloom seeds.

This famous Dutch heirloom bean has an incomparable flavor. The tender and superbly delicious 7-inch pods are yellow, with amazing purple streaks! Also makes a tasty shelled bean. Popular with chefs and gourmets. Compact plants set high yields.

CS, I plan on building the same style habitat you have for your mealworms/beetles. The pill bugs we have had in a fishtank before, but I think I will go the rubbermaid container route, that way the will have space and will not dry out so quickly. The Elodea is a PITA! We have a huge water tank out in the tropical greenhouse and we have some out in there we are trying to keep alive, and I have some in a fishtank. Last year when we were looking all over for the stuff, the fish store that I purchase from is no longer allowed to sell the stuff due to the DNR (apparently it was getting into the water systems). I will look at Petsmart today while I am out shopping. I am trying to convince the profs to do a different procedure for the Osmosis Diffusion lab...... using all of the solutions of varying concentrations and the dialysis tubing takes up a lot of room, time, and $$.... Now I REALLY need to find a way to grow brine shrimp successfully and in large quantities.

Frenchie I work at a University in the Biology department. The cat morgue is a big filing cabinet that contains the cats used for anatomy class.

Well, I better get going or I am never going to get those tanks cleaned....
