Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanks to all of you for the kind thoughts, I am thankful to say I am not sad but blessed, his life was full and the end was quick he appeared to be smiling.
TO Thanks so much making a special arrangement for us to meet you and I am very happy with the choices you and Gary made. Wish I could have come along. This thread truly is home to many great people!

I spent the afternoon today with LMiller; can we say small world? I used to go horseback riding with her daughter! We had a lovely afternoon discussing chickens, horses, gardens, and of course saltwater tanks!

She has a lovely home and a beautiful piece of land. Super jealous here! I would LOVE to move out of the insanity!!!!

Going to spoil the kids on their last day at home with a breakfast of buttermilk pancakes, sausage links, and bacon; then when their dad is finished with work I was thinking we would run over to the in-laws and visit the ducks.

I hope everyone enjoyed their day!

For those that love ducks: It turns out the ducks I got from Holderreads are pairing up nicely. I have a breeding pair of Welsh Harlequins, a breeding pair of Australian Spotteds (which are looking more and more like miniature welshies!), and I think 2 breeding pairs of Dutch hook bills. I've been watching for a while to see tail feathers curl, and voices rasp. I really do like the ducks. The Dutch hook bills are really interesting so far too. Oh and my cayuga is a loud mouthed female. :-D

That is really weird...... my cousin told us today that my cousin (his brother) had a smile on his face as well when he found him Friday. Must run in our family.... he was naked in front of the fan ! And had a smile on his face !!

Evening all...what a day! My alarm didnt go off so I didnt go to the race track (I think I said that earlier) Had a nice meeting with Gary and then finished feeding and watering and headed to work for a couple hours. I got home and made the rest of the food for our company...Robin and Steve didnt show up (Hope they are OK) oDH went grocery shopping...yeah--wont discuss THAT! SO the company came and stayed for about TWO hours! I told DH not to worry so much! THen we sat out at the fire for a while...now I am really tired!
Is it wrong of me to train my chickens to bite? I think not . I have tried to tell my family for years that my farm is not a petting zoo. My sister even takes it upon herself to feed my animals (but not the right feed and she doesn't give them water-which is what they actually needed). Irony is family and the stress of dealing with them! So everyone enjoy the holiday!
Why do people think that they can hold and pet every animal on a farm? I am with you...but I have not had luck teaching them to bite...unless your toes are painted that is!

I am so so sorry. How Sad. You are in my thought and prayers ! It is so hard to lose your parents. One does not realize it until they are gone. May he Rest in Peace.

Aww--poor guy. I like the fact that he appeared to have a smile though! Remember him like that!
I scored two more dog kennel panels on CL that were less than 10 miles away. We want to extend the girls 16'x30' run before we head up North fishing, since they won't have access to their big pasture/range area for that week. Boy I absolutely love finding those panels on resale!!
I love this too!

TO: Kristip and I are minutes away from Coop, and I think there are a several others. Maybe we could have that meet and greet at the park across from Susan's store this fall. There is a small shelter there (in case of rain) and playground for kids. I have a couple of open Saturdays in October, what's everyone think?
Sounds good to me!

Sorry for your loss. I hope everything works out and goes as smoothly as possible.

What a long day. The LOOOOONNNNNGG part was driving with my sister to my Aunts house.......OMG I do love my sister BUT she drives like she needs to pass everyone !!! Of course there were people today doing the speed limit and that's to slow for her..... she rides their tail until she can pass !!!! Then on the way home there was actually someone doing 40 mph...... we rode them for a while too !!! On top of all that the sadness of my cousins death, she was telling me about a friend of her's horse who is boarded with my sisters horse. It is 29 yrs old and may need to be put down. It is blind in one eye, ulcers and some other new issue in the better eye and was just diagnosed with cushings. Then it started treatment for that and it now has ataxia. She thought it might need to be put down today. The vet said it was the advanced cushings but the symptoms of ataxia didn't start until it started the meds for the cushings. Well on the way home my sister called and the poor guy is a bit better because they didn't give it the purgoglide (sp) today.....stupid vets.....
The other sad part of that is the owner of the horse has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy that eventually will put her in a wheel chair and be the cause of her early death. She is only in her thirties now. Anyway, this old horse "Country Boy" who was going to be put down a few years ago was given to her and has been a real gift to her. My sister believes this horse has kept her (owner) functioning better and gave her a reason to keep going. If she loses this horse it is going to be so hard on her. Then to top that off my sisters horse 'Moose' is Country Boy's best friend. He will protect him, chase other horses away. the whole nine yards. You've got to know my sister.... she is a real worry wart...... TEN times more then me, actually I'm really not one, I just kind of go with the flow...... need I say it was a pretty stressful day.

Then, as long as I'm at it and on a roll......my sister has got herself in another jam (this is the way we are alike) (other then that we are like from two different planets lol) she is trying to help a poor 6 yr old greyhound/lab mix, male about 88 lbs find a new home.
Long story short, (ok not so short) This is down in Racine. This guy (who is about 50 yrs old) contacted my sister when he needed to find a home for his cat as well because he had gotten the kitten from my sister (she had rescued it and he wanted a pet) so asked her if she would take him back. She did but with a lot of work she found it a better home then it came from or even better then my sisters. So anyway, once she found out he needed to find the dog a home she got involved. So she told the owner of the dog that he should take it to the Wisconsin Humane Society (formerly Country Side Humane Society) because they are a no kill shelter. So he did....
This part really sucks too...... the shelter analyzed the dog, said he passed and took the dog in. Now it is coming up on two weeks and they called and said he will be put down on Wednesday because he is ear and paw sensitive and nervous. Yeah NO CRAP, why wouldn't you be nervous in a shelter.
So now my sister is going to go and get the dog and found another shelter to bring the dog to that is a no kill. I said why don't you make the previous owner go get him..... his excuse for giving it up in my excuse is a piss poor one...
She said she doesn't want to do that to the poor dog.... have it see the owner again.....it will upset the dog.... I agree it will BUT.... I think the previous owner SHOULD have to SEE what is happening to his dog.
Now let me share why he gave it up.... First off, he was renting a house..... from his sister..... who always spoiled him rotten. She loves animals more then people (she doesn't have kids). So her little brother (her tenant) all of a sudden gets this girlfriend and gets serious (for once in his life). So he starts spending time at her apartment. Going over to the house to let the dog out etc. I think this tee'd off big sister, but not sure of those details.
I guess the plan was for them to move to the house in November when girlfriend's lease was up but something hit the fan between the brother and sister and now he just up and left and moved in with the girlfriend.
So guess who suffers. The poor animals.
When my sister went to the humane society I guess my sister was reamed a new one by the shelter staff. They said family needs to step up and help this dog...... and because my sister is just trying to help she got herself into the middle of it all.
I am so tee'd off at this Freaking guy I could just spit !!!! What gall to pass the buck onto someone else. I truly hope his new fling fails..... and when it does he will see that the animals would have been there for him long after the woman isn't !!!
So, anybody want a lab/grayhound?
So, just for the record. Wisconsin Humane Society is lying through their teeth about them being a no kill shelter. When I adopted the parakeets from them last winter I was suspicious about what they were saying. They only had a few dogs up for adoption. They said the other dogs were going through evaluations etc. They will refuse dogs as well if they don't think they are adoptable. Now *** is that all about ???? Isn't that what a shelter does.... take in unwanted dogs ? By refusing dogs or saying they are no longer adoptable (which is what they are saying about this dog) they are making their numbers look good because they are adopting out 100% of the dogs they deem are adoptable.... they aren't telling you about the ones that they reject or remove from their adoptable list !!! OR KILL !!!

Ok, that's enough excitement for today..... I'll try to post a picture of the dog. I think my sister is getting him on Tuesday.

Hi All!

FT...Glad you got to use the pool at least once this year! Your sister drive the opposite of my DH! I would be happy if he kept up with traffic or at least made the speed limit! I'm fine with safe, but it's not safe when every frickin' vehicle is passing you! When we were driving up to the bash, little old men and women were passing us!!! And he can't talk and drive, he forgets about the gas peddle entirely! I have been with him when he has coasted to a stop while talking! I thought something was wrong with the car! Nope, he just forgot to drive. I've found it's better for my nerves if I just close my eyes and try to dose off.

It's their last day in WI. A couple of weeks off then he'll be headed to TX., then N. Carolina. Then He'll come home for a couple of weeks then go to Hawaii! In March They start the circuit again. Poor kid has such a hard life!
Night All!

Amazingly, I've been coordinating the hay sales just right so when he fills wagons I have someone there to buy it. I had a lady yesterday that was really rude to me. But everyone else has been wonderful and really happy to have found cheap hay. But I can't wait to be done!
