Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I forgot to post results of my detox diet. I went from 142lbs to 129lbs. I have more energy, mental clarity and the eczema on my hands has cleared up! I'm very happy. And I plan to keep grains, dairy and sugar out of my diet, forever. I officially signed up for the Rock and Roll half marathon in Vegas in November. So that just gives me more motivation to eat healthy and stay active.
WOO HOO! Nice job!

I hope you enjoy them.

Just got home from a chicken train day, dropping off some of the bantam black rocks and the Iowa Blues. Great to meet you guys! Hope you enjoy the birds.

I've got two more groups of birds going out this weekend, then I'll be down to just my core flock of Iowa Blues and a lavender Ameraucana (have a little "Iowacana" project going) along with 25 IB chicks, and the eggs in the incubator (a dozen Iowacana project crosses and a bunch of Iowa Blues).

So happy my "other than IBs" are going to people who will love them. I will miss my bantams and others, but am also looking forward to having the pens full of my favorite bird.

The chicks in my chickbator need to get outside! They are getting so active and need to get out and explore. Hopefully can get the juvenile shed cleaned out and converted for the younger chicks. They'll love the space.

ha ha ha... she said 1/2 inch head space... that's a pretty small peter...

oh... btw, Jim and Unk are having a sleep over. It's pretty weird. They' ve been doing eachothers toe nails (trying to cover the green) and eachothers finger nails (again trying to cover the green) and eachothers hair. ( that is the funniest, how do you style a bald spot?!?!?!)
They've been too busy to post. I've been spying on them. Yes it's pervy, but I've never claimed to be anything other than that.

If they start playing dress up, I'm recording it!!!!

BBP - great job :thumbsup

Beautiful birds Irish!!! Keep us posted on your "project" results Hurley!

FRENCHIE - I forgot to tell you. Don't know if you ever met chicken John? I think he's called from Summit Lake. His place is just a block or so behind the old post office. Anyway, his flock was hit by coyotes and nearly decimated and then the pack went down the road and hit his neighbor's flocks!!!

We hear coyotes nearly every night, sometimes within a few hundred feet of the house in the woods behind the garage but we've never had a problem in the daytime and a bear couldn't get into our coop at night. Haven't heard them the last few nights tho. Too many bear dogs running thru the state land behind us. Dumb dogs. Our trail cam picked up a huge black bear the other night just north of the house.

Anyone have a great idea for wiping out a yellow jacket nest hidden under a pine tree without getting stung to the bajeezus?

Stinging insects have been horrendous here this season, somehow I think we have a bumble bee, wasp, and yellow jacket nurseries here or something. It's been unbelievable. I've done nothing but knock down wasp nests and try to wipe out underground nests the last 2 months, seems like.

Anyone have a great, sure fire way to wipe out the nest safely? Water, wasp spray, sevin dust, etc. have not touched them.

I'm worried about my boys and quite frankly, swarms of yellow jackets at my driveway are just not welcome. I'm typically live and let live, but this is getting ridiculous. They've got 5 acres, they don't need to be colonizing my front yard and driveway. One nest we finally managed to take out was 10 feet from the house. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

wasp spray always has worked here, last year was the worst ever up north

get the big can that shoots like 20', the key is you have to wait until dark to spray, then they are all in that nest,,,, during the day you are wasting your time

good luck

Thanks again Hurley for meeting me and giving us the black rock bantams! My kids were so excited. Just two days after their birthday...thrilled is the right word! They are so sweet.
Started prepping pears today. Only canned bout 8 big jars today..peeling is a pain. Dehydrated two big batches. Want to try jelly sometime too but now my new food processor is not working. Frustrated. My sweet boy keeps picking them because we have so many pears..keep telling him to just leave some for now. He is determined they need to be picked though. He brought tears to my eyes tonight...poor kid, his two best buddies are not in his class or lunch and he just misses them, drama boy said that soccer and football and recess is just not enough time with them. Too cute. My social child!

OUR LAST PROJECT FOR THE RUN THIS YEAR.
(Well except for putting a greenhouse panel roof over the area between the greenhouse [you can see] and the coop to the right).

(the little white "glitch" on the bottom is Noodle's tail)

the girls checking out their new dusting box. (that's the beginning of our meadow behind them) The hanging, 4 cup waterer to the right is actually supposed to be a hanging birdfeeder that I scored at the flea market last weekend for $5.

The Peppers checking out all the fun. (the larger one is on the ground but they are getting closer in size all the time. wish I had better pics of them but the amigas kept photo bombing, the little hams)

The "umbrella" has had several other lives since being a satellite dish including a bird bath. Before that the catch basln for a fountain that had a small and smaller old satellite dishes for the cascade for the waterfall. Now they are serving as platform birdfeeders.
