I really don't want to stir trouble up. But I have to comment and apologize in advance...

Morning all! Cind, I am so sorry about your luck lately :-( sending good vibes your way. And I have learned on the blrw, the only way to tell (for me) is looking at the saddle feathers.

I really didn't "beat" it. I hit him a couple of times to get him to drop my chicken that was dying right in front of me. If I could have got that dog to drop it sooner he wouldn't have died. I could see the life being crushed out of that bird as the dog kept running with it. It was kicking its legs and gasping. By the time I hit the dog and made him drop the chicken, it was too late. My chickens are my pets, I don't like watching their death. I shouldn't have to watch them die by someone elses pet. And I do have the legal right to kill an animal threatening the lives of my livestock, so he got by easy.

Colton, it is hard to see that pic. But if I were you, I would sit and watch a bit. I have read that sometimes other chickens will pick the feathers on the fluffy types.


Hubby is very crabby that I am at work. On top of it, his folks want to show 3 hours early. Right at the time the kids nap. I asked him If I can tell them to wait untill party time. No response. We will see.

I would have used my feet also. I would have gone straight to beating the dog. No chance to drop it. Once a dog has gone that far, there is no turning back. Chance of a stray dog being well trainedto drop is slim t none. F it was well trained, it wouldn't have run away to kill the chicken. The owner also needs to know immediately how serious you are about the situation.
I spent well over $700 to fence my property from the neighbors dog. She still gets through. Our chessy is keeping the situation under control at this time. If she does kill one of my birds, things will take a turn for the worse. Period.

thanks Cindlady, glad you liked it. We thought it was a cute idea and hubby worked really hard on it. The girls enjoy it. That's what counts.
SO VERY SORRY for all the losses. I hope your kitty reappears. It's hardest to lose an old friend.

Welcome MelissaRatz! . Glad you found the thread. There are lots of cheeseheads on here. A few are on every day and many many more that pop on from time to time.
