Hello JIM Oh wise one....... would you tell me how to tell a male from a female guinea I hatched 4 from the eggs I got from you.. thank you But I have no clue whats what. Really like havin the birds around. They make great watch dogs. Just yesterday I was workin on my garage,,,finally,,, when the guineas started a squacken!!!! Stopped to take a looksee what was goin on and there was a FOX harassin my flock..... TRUE STORY So I grabbed the old 12er to fire a warning shot of to side and the dang thing jumped right into the line of fire.... can you believe it... thanks to those guineas for gettin my attention.. I dont think the fox cares for them to much though..... guess I cant blame him thanks Zeke
the one on the bottom is the female,, LOL
listen to them talk when they are not on alert.. the females will give a two pitched call ,, the males will have only a one pitched call.. if they are on alert, they ALL have a one pitched call..
on older, same aged guineas, the crown on the male will be slightly larger than the females.. and the wattles on the male will be larger than the females.. but on older females, the wattles are larger than on the younger females.. (or younger males for that matter)
only the females lay eggs .. the only 100% way to tell ..
I don't know is this is true; my females are the only ones to be pied.. that is, gray backs and white breasted.. anybody else notice this ?? or just coincidence ??

ETA: Odd thing, that fox jumping that way ..
My chickens and guineas were carrying on a while ago.. I took the dog and made a circle around the yard.. saw nothing,, might have been a hawk just buzzing the scenery ..
