I caught another chicken a few minutes ago.. the rest of them are real savvy and started giving the danger squawk as soon as I stepped out the back door.. as soon as I touched the ladder they all flew down from the tree and ran away.. this white one was just about to fly when I grabbed her leg..

You need to borrow my hubbys salmon fishing net it is about 10' long and a huge net... works great for chickens that think they can escape you!

good morning,, sunny right now..hope it stays that way ..

attempted to catch the last of the BO last night.. they were way out on the flimsy end of the pine branches.. I managed to knock one loose with a piece of pvc pipe, but the netter on the ground missed her.. she ran away into the darkness.. I will carry a net when I go to water them today..

JJ, beans over potatoes ? that would not work for me.. my beans linger too long and the potatoes would crowd them out.. I will see if I can find a picture of my two potato rows..
I have plenty of ground, so I do not have to do companion planting..

I always wanted to plant marigolds with some of my veggies, but Annie was always so set against it.. and don't ask me why .. IDK.. but I am much older now, and maybe next year I will plant whatever and however I want .. what can she do to me ?? cut me off ? HA !! she doesn't even know where I am getting it ....

Dan, right on about the pepper blossom picking,, I forgot I did that.. and another thing to do with tomato planting.. instead of digging them in deep, set them into trenches and lay them flat,, that way the roots will be in the upper warmer part of the ground instead of a foot deep where the soil stays cooler..

this is the first time I ever tried the carrot seed tape,, I am going to see if I can find a small planter wheel where I can make up my own tapes.. maybe use T>paper, or maybe they make a tape I could buy.. they must make a tape,,,the seed company uses it ,, DUH jim,,

bl4, the blue one is already spoken for so you are off the hook,, actually all four of the babies are spoken for.. so go ahead and show the picture..
today one of them is peeking out of the nest box hole.. It will be real soon when they start to venture out..

With bales you get to plant more than just one surface, so beans on top and potatoes out the sides maybe.

also the squash grow best out the sides of the bale, but it is hard to get to the top to pick anything. Carrots perhaps.

Nice tip UNK it's one of those things that make me ask. "why didn't I think of that?"

Hey all! Nice and quiet at my home tonight! DH came home about noon and said he had to go to St Louis. So here I am ALL BY MYSELF! Well, besides the parrot and the rooster, 6 dogs and 8 cats milling around for me to pet them!!!

This is too funny!!!! He just called to let me know that he just got there (and safe) and was heading out to dinner. Glad he made it safe. Oh geez...there goes the phone again...so much for quiet!

Sclark, if you and Cuties want to keep me in the loop of your chicken train...... I have no idea where the dog is going for his foster home, but if it is close to you Sclark, I could meet you somewhere instead of you driving all the way down here.

I have not heard from them yet on placement, but I was also supposed to have a behaviorist come and check him out too this week and so far I have heard nothing.

They are hoping to have him in his new foster home this weekend, but at this pace it will probably be after Thanksgiving! NOT what I wanted at all......
