Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

A few pictures from butchering day.

lol at Pepsi checking out Ender's eye.

2 that I raised, FancyPants in the background, and EnderChick (he WAS a boy right??) He was my favorite looking chick as a baby and turned out pretty weird looking .. imo. lol

One of the scrawny little guys, we had 2 that looked the same and they were not friendly!

GrapeSoda.. She was the UGLIEST baby and is now one of my faves!

The other scrawny boy, or maybe the same.. who knows, they looked the same.

Big ol' Barney. He was the loudest crower, so he had to go :(

SuperChick, cuddly lil thing :) still not sure if our silkies are male or female..

Such a handsome boy.

FancyPants

RIP little duckies. Creeper the boy, Steve the girl.

and our oldest girl, HennyBooBoo, looking very intimidating :)
Your birds are beautiful!!

With bales you get to plant more than just one surface, so beans on top and potatoes out the sides maybe.

also the squash grow best out the sides of the bale, but it is hard to get to the top to pick anything. Carrots perhaps.

Nice tip UNK it's one of those things that make me ask. "why didn't I think of that?"

NO THAT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR YOU ALL TO TELL ME WHY I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT!

Nice pic, John!!

Yay CS!!!!!!

Will probably never happen here, even though the city right up the highway with a much bigger population does allow chickens. I hope it does pass for you, and that the cops find the gun!

Hi All!

erin..... nice pics! Too bad the roos are no more. So sorry about your ducks!

Maybe it was shock and trauma that did in the male.

Jim... How about using medical paper tape for the seeds? Plant the marigolds! Good for the chickens. Are you having an early turkey day with that hen that died?

Dan.... wow! Hope you can keep your girls safe!

Bl4.... Hope the dog people get hold of you soon.

cs... Great News! Sounds like your on a roll with it!

Well, I'm waiting for the turkey to cool so I can cut it. Yes, I made a 12lb. turkey last night! DH brought one home and said some complained about their (Best Bargains) turkeys not being "good". So they thawed one out and DH brought it home for me to cook, and I send 1/2 of it back for them to try.

It looked good, smelled good and fresh, clean, packed and wrapped well. My only complaint would be, there were no giblets! They weren't a big brand name either, but big deal.

Spirit seems to be holding her own. She does NOT like her chicken flavored antibiotics! (As my arm will prove!)

Well, time to cut the Turkey!...... Night All!

good morning,, coffee is almost ready..

erinnole, I would be trapping for a weasel or of the weasel family,, the head through the fence and chewed off indicates that to me.. the weasel dragged the duck with intent of taking it to his cache. it became stuck so it took what it could.. the male duck was bitten also.. probably somewhere on the back of the head/neck.. you might have to ruffle the feathers to see the teeth marks..

smells like the coffee is done,, bbl .....

Aw del :'( in the hustle of the morning dozer was lwft out alone with the chixkens. He got ahold of the silkie roo :'(
Syd is so mad at herself. I told her accidents happen. I really hope the one egg hatches for her. Dozer has been doing so good. But we have not allowed him out alone :'( we are sad here this morning.
Nobody is harder on Sydney then herself. She will feel badly for awhile.

This is how I feel after my city council meeting tonight!

I proposed that Zion adopt the newly approved Lake Co ordinances on chicken and bee keeping. The gentleman that I'd been talking to that sits on that council, Frank, said that he thought the reaction was positive. He said that he was forwarding the information on all of the local ordinances to the rest of the council members. Also, I had spoken to our district representative, Brent, that is on the Lake Co board that unanimously approved the new ordinance and he showed up to tonight's meeting to support by request. I had 4 other citizens indicate interest in either bee keeping or chicken keeping. And I even had a local business owner take my name and number so that she could buy eggs from me once I start selling them!

One step for chicken/bee, another step for homesteading!!!! Whoop!

Way to go . . . now I'm sending good vibes that it all continues on a positive track and you will soon be legal and selling farm fresh eggs

Thanks so much! They are a pretty bunch! :) I'm excited for spring and to add some new chicks to the flock. Now that we kind of know what we're doing, it should be easier... hehe!

Thank you :) I'll be going over there at noon, so hopefully I can learn more about the male.

Ok, very helpful to know what we may be trapping. Thank you! I will look over the male's body and see what I can find.

ok...non chickeny stuff...but for those not on facebook...might be a good laugh. My seven year olds wrote their christmas letter to santa last night on their own. I had to translate from seven year old to fully legible though...

Here is Morgans: Merry Christmas Santa,
This is my favorite time of year. Only if I get presents. I am really happy to have Christmas. You know me, Morgan! We (our family last name) love Christmas. I'm excited for Christmas. Santa I wish you have a merry Christmas too. Love Morgan. I think I have been good.

And not be outdone...here is Andrews: Deer Santa. I have been good a lot and a little bit bad, like this ...99.5%

sigh...that is why I love them to death.
Chickens are good and supplemental light has me getting a few more eggs this week. The male guinea is a little bit of a bully, but hoping when 2 chickens move out this weekend, they will be happier and have more room. They are still not the loudest things as others have noted...just when a neighbor cat or the lawn mower comes by do they alarm. Anxious to see if we have baby guinea come spring. Curious..has anyone eated their guinea...light meat or dark and similar to chicken???
