My BLRW chick living in the house with 3 others. Colors are finally starting to come in. I'm so excited after all the chicks I've hatched this is the first to show any signs of blue. I was scared as their was only a small bit of reddish on the far wing feather until later and the new feathers coming all have lacing. Do you still think it's a pullet? Will the color darken as it grows? Just wondering if its worthy to grow out? Been a long year to get this one bird.
Heres another chick, but black laced which is what all of them have turned out so far. The largest one to grow out that I didn't sell was a cockerel and I sold him recently.

Apparently from what I was told the 2 BO hens came from the same place I bought the cockerel at from a small hatchery west of me a year prior. They were suppose to be of show stock but was explained that just because parents are show doesn't mean that all the offspring will be. They showed me some of the chicks from white dottes that had severe crossbill but the parents were beautiful. They said it was from too much crossing back. I saw the parent stock and all the different breeds were nice looking. I purchased my SS hens from there also but to me they have too much white in them compared to my original SS hen. I also purchased my SLW cockerel from there and I'm not sure if he's show quality like I was told as I know nothing really about it. I just know the one I seen at the fair this year had nothing on mine and I don't know that mine is anything special. I do realize that being from a small rural area people don't know what the bigger picture is and take it for what it is. Hope I said that right. I guess basically what I'm saying is I have no flippin' clue what I'm doing. I just know what I want to do. As far as the BO go, I'd sell them as a trio or keep them either way just wanted to know if they were worth doing anything with. I have so many mutts, not like their bad but I wanted to take a different direction than I had been doing. I don't want to be overwhelmed like I am right now. I've said before that I want to breed BLRW and my SS for sure. I'm so glad that I have this site for help. Everyone on here has been so helpful with all my rambling and nonsense and so accepting of my ignorance.both pullets

Saturday it is, if that will work for you. I planned on leaving around 7am as it said that I'm 4 1/2 hrs away. I will have my tribe(2 girls 2 boys)with me, I hope that's ok. I don't expect you to feed anyone! I told the kids we can pack a lunch to bring with. Just let me know if this will be ok and u can pm me your address or I can just give you my number and you can text it to me either way works.Aw del :'( in the hustle of the morning dozer was lwft out alone with the chixkens. He got ahold of the silkie roo :'(
Syd is so mad at herself. I told her accidents happen. I really hope the one egg hatches for her. Dozer has been doing so good. But we have not allowed him out alone :'( we are sad here this morning.
Nobody is harder on Sydney then herself. She will feel badly for awhile.

Clark..it depends on what your goals are. If you want to breed to the SOP..invest in the book. It is worth its weight in gold.
That trio of buffs should be OK to try to breed. It is hard to see on pictures how close they are to the SOP. They do not have enough front (IMO)and look like good quality hatchery birds. I like the rear on the male and do not see pinched tail on any of the hens. How are legs? are they white? Are they wide? Are the keels straight? How is the color? Are they all golden? Do you have peppering in the feathers/ Any dark feathers? tons of things determine if birds should be used for breeding and these are just a few. Color is workable..TYPE is the most important. They are a dual purpose breed and should weight 8-10lbs. They should be huge an look like they weigh more than what they do.

I believe so, I didn't know that was his name. No offense but he'll get a new name as I already have a "Red".Sclark - Are you picking up my "Red"?
Sclark - you obviously don't have to keep the name. I originally called him that as the tag I put on him as a baby was red and as he grew he developed the red feathers, so the name stuck!
